Attendance/Tardiness School starts at 8:00 A.M. After 8:00 is Tardy If students aren’t in the classroom by 8:10,

they should check in at the school office before coming to class. Marked Tardy after 8, but gate is closed after 8:10

If your child is absent, please be sure to send a note within 3 days of the absence so that it will be recorded as excused, or CALL the office

4 teacher teaming model, but 3 groups. Students will have Science with Mrs. Bartholomew

and Mrs. Carrillo on two days per week Social Studies once per week with Mrs. Kasten PE: daily fitness and Games once per week with Mrs.

Morris or Mrs. Borisov (Especially wear running shoes on PE day)

Grading Policy Students will be graded on evidence of how they have

mastered the Common Core State Standards. (CCSS) for third grade

Grading will be done according to a rubric (see the following) Not all papers with a grade are entered into the grade book, so

if you are worried about your student‘s grades, please check the Parent Portal and/or contact me

Student effort impacts their “work habits” and not their grades

Agenda Book Agenda books have arrived. All assignments are located inside the agenda. Notes and Comments: The agenda book is the tool for

writing notes, but email works great Please sign Agenda daily, including Friday If the Agenda book is not signed twice in one week, a

white note will be sent home Sign even if student does not complete work, let us

know why, write a note

Homework Placed in Homework folder inside 3 ring binder each

day. Mostly will be LA and Math homework At times: Social Studies or Science Projects

Have a routine time and place to do homework Remind students to use agenda book and bring the

binder with homework each day. Students will need lots of encouragement and

positive feedback from you about homework! Best Effort! Take Pride in your work…

Students may have up to one hour of homework four nights per week and this does not include unfinished classwork

TEST Packets Will Include:

Tests, quizzes, CW and HW Correct and Fix Set goals, write a comment Cut off Info for your reference Keep to work on fix and finishes Return entire packet to class by end of week

Weekly Spelling & Vocabulary

All words are located in the three ring binder. Pink Spelling and White sheet for Vocab. Use Spell Activities guide

Also last 5-8 words on spelling list are vocab, a.k.a. challenge words

A dictionary may be used to complete the assignment. Definitions are most important

Your child may borrow a dictionary from school, but it must be returned daily. We use: Scholastic Children’s Dictionary or Dictionary.com

Book Reports = AR Reading

We have students write summaries of weekly stories

Summaries of AR books is extra credit

Read within ZPD and interest Chapter books (on level of child) Must be AR Earn your points!

AR ReadingAR Reading Improves Reading Outside reading is encouraged each semester. Some reading in class will be assigned as AR reading AR Reading is assigned 4 times/ week at on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday:Use the weekend to catch up if needed

1st Semester: 20min/day 80min/week

2nd Semester: 30 min/day 120min/week

Choose books in AR level called the ZPD. Books are available in the classroom and may be taken home to read. Keep a book at student’s desk at all times to read when done with work.

Writing in Third Grade

Third Graders are given 6-Trait writing lessons and assessments Writing Journals (spiral notebook) are kept at school for instruction. We will put together a keepsake binder.

Gladly accept help to decorate these binders with cloth and poly-fill. Do you sew?
