Third Grade Curriculum (All Subject to Change) 1. Religion Text: Christ Our Life (Loyola Press) Unit 1- God Calls Us To Faith Unit 2- God is Great and Good Unit 3- God’s Plan is a Plan of Love Unit 4- Jesus Brings Us to the Kingdom of God Unit 5- Jesus is With Us on Our Way Third Graders are expected to attend and participate with their class at weekly Mass on Friday Each unit has multiple chapters that relate to the theme of the unit. Students will be tested on one lesson per week. Units will also be supplemented by material based on liturgical seasons, holy days, and feast days. Class will begin and end in prayer. Each student will have a chance to be prayer leader for a week.. Prayer leader will lead meal blessing at lunchtime and a closing prayer at the end of the day. 2. Language Arts Reading We will be using a form of Reader’s Workshop this year. Third Grade Curriculum (All Subject to Change)

1. Religion Text: Christ Our Life (Loyola Press)

Third Graders are expected to attend and participate with their class at weekly Mass on Friday Each unit has multiple chapters that relate to the theme of the unit. Students will be tested on one

lesson per week. Units will also be supplemented by material based on liturgical seasons, holy days, and feast days. Class will begin and end in prayer. Each student will have a chance to be prayer leader for a week..

Prayer leader will lead meal blessing at lunchtime and a closing prayer at the end of the day.

2. Language Arts Reading

We will be using a form of Reader’s Workshop this year. Reader’s Workshop is comprised of three parts: a short lesson on a skill (taken from the Common Core Standards), independent reading time during which I will conference with students, and time to write about what they read and practice using the skill taught in the short lesson.

Reader’s Workshop will allow students to read a variety of texts from different genres. They will be required to read a certain number of texts from each of the major literary genres, including nonfiction.

Students will participate in at least two “Book Talks” each trimester in which they suggest a book to the class and give a short synopsis. This is a very brief presentation and students will receive a schedule to prepare. They will also write at least two “Book Reviews” per trimester based on a book they have read. This will be done in class.

We will also be reading various novels out loud in class and using Accelerated Reader in addition to the above.

Writing We will be using Writer’s Workshop this year as well. Just like Reader’s Workshop, it is composed

Each unit offers a Mid-Chapter checkpoint quiz and a Unit test. Students should anticipate having quizzes or tests every other week or so depending on the unit. They will always receive at least two days notice about tests or quizzes. All tests and quizzes can be found in their books.

We will also be completing ST Math in class. Students will often have ST Math for homework as well.
