CAP SESSIONS CAP is the safe environment training program for adults who

have regular contact with minors. Attendance is required in order to

comply with the USCCB’s Charter for the Protection of Children and

Young People. The policy of the Diocese of Camden is that adults will

attend CAP once every five years.

CAP 1 teaches attendees to recognize child abuse and neglect

and how to report to the proper authorities. Adults are taught that children

have the right to be safe, strong and free. CAP 1 is for new volunteers

and employees.

CAP 2 is called CAP’s Bullying Prevention Program and is a

workshop addressing bullying awareness and bullying prevention. Cyber-

bullying is also presented.

CAP 3 is called Cyber-Empowerment and is a workshop which

promotes adults understanding of cyber activity of youth while teaching

them realistic ways to help children keep their own rights and guard the

rights of others in the cyber-sphere.

Each presentation is 90 minutes. There is no CAP Phase 2 this

month.

Adults who are new employees or volunteers should attend

CAP 1 before attending CAP 2 or CAP 3. After five years, adults have

the option of attending CAP 1, 2 or 3 when they renew their CAP.

CAP Phase 1 Tuesday, May 15, 7 PM, St. Clare of Assisi, 140 Broad St.,

Swedesboro

Wednesday, May 30, 6 PM, Holy Family (Aquin Center), 226

LESSON THIRTIETH:

On the First Commandment

Q. 1140. What is the first Commandment?

A. The first Commandment is: I am the Lord

thy God: thou shalt not have strange gods before

me.

Q. 1141. What does the commandment mean by

"strange gods"?

A. By strange gods the commandment means

idols or false gods, which the Israelites frequently

worshipped when, through their sins, they had

abandoned the true God.

Q. 1142. How may we, in a sense, worship

strange gods?

A. We, in a sense, may worship strange gods

by giving up the salvation of our souls for wealth,

honors, society, worldly pleasures, etc., so that we

would offend God, renounce our faith or give up the

practice of our religion for their sake.

Q. 1143. How does the first Commandment help

us to keep the great Commandment of the love of

God?

A. The first Commandment helps us to keep

the great Commandment of the love of God because

it commands us to adore God alone.

Q. 1144. How do we adore God?

A. We adore God by faith, hope, and charity,

by prayer and sacrifice.
