The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2015 (7/1/14 - 6/30/15) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal Year 2014. The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,768,000.00 or $34,000.00 per week. Contributions for the 23rd weekend of the fiscal year were $38,591.00. In the 23rd week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $782,000.00 and our collections are $750,571.00. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider using the Capital Improvement Envelope in your packet to help recover the renovation of St. Bakhita Hall. May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. GAUDETE SUNDAY

The Third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete, translated from

the Latin antiphon for the opening of this Mass, meaning “rejoice”, is taken from

St. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians 4:4-5 “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say

rejoice! The Lord is near.” Yes, we rejoice as we know the nearness of the Lord’s

coming, not only at Christmas, but even in the mysteries of our daily lives. In

Isaiah 61:11, the prophet gives us another reason for rejoicing for: “As the earth brings

forth its plants, and a garden makes its growth spring up, so will the Lord God make

justice and praise spring up before all the nations.” Let us be instruments of that justice

as we treat one another rightly and be instruments of praise as we give God glory and honor in our worship.

Give thanks to the Lord for the many ways that Jesus has blessed your life and then rejoice!

PARISH PENANCE SERVICE

Our annual Penance Service for Advent here at Annunciation will be held this

Wednesday, Dec. 17th at 7:00 p.m. in church. There will be about a dozen priests on hand to

celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with you in order to better prepare for Christmas.

St. Bernadette’s Reconciliation Service will be the next evening, Thursday the 18th, in case you

miss ours. Come and take advantage of this opportunity to find the true peace of Christmas deep

within your soul.

CASA ANGELICA COLLECTION

We will take up our annual collection for Casa Angelica next weekend,

Dec. 20-21. Casa Angelica is a home for profoundly disabled children whom

the Canossian Sisters have served since its foundation in 1967. Annunciation

Parish has an equally long history of helping these dear children through our

association with the Canossian Sisters and their mission of serving those most

in need. As we await the celebration of the birth of the most precious

Child Jesus, I invite you to join in supporting the work of Casa Angelica. Your gift combined with those of

your fellow parishioners makes a world of difference in the lives of Casa Angelica’s little ones.

UNWRAPPING YOUR VOCATION

As part of the observance of the Year for Religious, the Catholic Newman Center at UNM is

hosting the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, who would like to invite young

women to a night of discussion on what it means to embrace one’s vocation with a joyful heart.

They will be presenting their talk “The Bliss of Giving All: Unwrapping Your Vocation” on

Monday, December 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center on campus. All young

women ages 16-33 are encouraged to attend.

HEALING PRAYER

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and

for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in

your healing presence. Show your mercy as You close wounds, cure illness, make broken

bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and

deliverance, and so join us in thanking You for all your gifts. We ask this through our

merciful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who healed those who believed. Amen. (~ anonymous)

► Thank You to the Annunciation School children in Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, and the JPII Crew of our parish

youth ministry, for preparing the beautiful and meaningful Christmas cards for sick and homebound parishioners, residents of nursing homes, visited by our volunteers. Thank you for continuing this Christmas tradition of reaching out to make other people happy. God bless you all for your generosity. These hand-made creative works of art will be delivered with the Christmas cookies this Monday, Dec. 15th, and the poinsettia flowers next Monday, Dec. 22nd. Thanks also to the Marianites

and the Companions on the Journey for taking these gifts to our parishioners. ► Social Concerns Collection for December is for the Canossians Sisters’ Casa Angelica Please r ead the flyer

in this weekend’s bulletin about Casa Angelica. The second collection next weekend Dec. 20/21 is for this important mission of the Canossians here in our city. Thank you for your generous support for all our ministries, “to make Jesus known, that He may be loved” (St. Magdalene of Canossa).

New Mexico Rally for Life 2015 Will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. This annual pr o-life gathering

takes place in commemoration of the tragic Roe vs. Wade decision. It will begin with Mass at noon in the Cathedral officiated by the three Bishops of New Mexico: Archbishop Michael Sheehan of Santa Fe, Bishop James Wall of Gallup, and Bishop

Oscar Cantứ of Las Cruces. This will be followed by a peaceful rally in the Roundhouse. Annunciation Respect Life volunteers will have sign-up for those who want to participate in this event during the weekend of January 10/11 and January 17/18. THIS WEEK’S MEETINGS / ACTIVITIES

Advent Reflection: In the second reading for the third week of Advent, St. Paul gives us a formula for Christian living:

“Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks…” Joy f lows naturally into our lives when we

take time to pray and be grateful. When we are caught up in the busy commercial aspects of Christmas, we may not feel

much like rejoicing, praying, or giving thanks. Yet, if we follow St. Paul’s advice to give prayerful thanks to God, we

will discover we have many reasons for rejoicing. —Susan M. Erchen (from Our Sunday Visitor, Nov. 30, 2014)

THE LAST THINGS

What Happens After We Die? What happens after we die? We’ve been asking that question since the

dawn of time. With a mixture of curiosity, fear, and hope, all of us long to

know what happens after death. The Church has long taught that prayerful

consideration of the Four Last Things—death, judgment, heaven, and hell—

is an essential part of our growth and maturation as Christians. It’s only

when we consider the decisions we make in the light of eternity that our

entire lives begin to make sense and our relationship with God can come to

full maturity.

As we Prepare for the Coming of Jesus during this Advent Season, Let Us Contemplate with Our Blessed Mother Mary the Joyous Mystery of the Incarnation of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…

What Mary Knew That he was beautiful, love’s most holy writ. That he was the world in small, and she loved it. That he had undone death. That he would be her joy. That he would grow more beautiful as he became a boy. That he was grace in human form and paradise to hold. That he smelled like eternity. That he would not grow old. That he was heaven’s gift, dressed in flesh and baby clothes. That he was wholly beautiful. What every mother knows.
