Third Sunday of Advent (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection On Gaudete Sunday the Church bids us rejoice for our salvation is
near. The readings are filled with that hopeful and joyful expectation. From the depths of the Old Testament, the prophet Zephaniah calls us to shout for joy, sing and exult (Zep 3:14). St. Paul, in turn, tells the Philippians: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say: rejoice!” (Phil 4:4). In that sense, we can say that Advent is a joyful season.
How should we express that joy? When John the Baptist is asked how to prepare for the coming of the Messiah, he responds by telling his followers to share with those who have nothing (Lk 3:11), to keep away from defrauding or falsely accusing others, and to be satisfied with what we have (cf. Lk 3:14). His advice is as valid today as it was 2,000 years ago.
As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us not think so much of accumulating material things. Let us remember the Lord’s many blessings and share them with others, for “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). God bless you!

Tercer Domingo de Adviento (Ciclo C) Reflexión Dominical
Este domingo Gaudete la Iglesia nos invita a alegrarnos porque se acerca nuestra salvación. Las lecturas están llenas de esa alegre esperanza. Desde lo profundo del Antiguo Testamento, el profeta Sofonías nos llama a gritar con alegría, cantar y exultar (Sof 3,14). San Pablo a su vez dice a los Filipenses: “Estén siempre alegres en el Señor. Lo repito, estén alegres” (Flp 4,4). En ese sentido, podemos decir que el Adviento es tiempo de alegría.
¿Cómo expresar esa alegría? Cuando los seguidores de Juan el Bautista le preguntan cómo prepararse para recibir al Mesías, este responde diciéndoles que compartan sus bienes con los necesitados (Lc 3,11), que no engañen ni difamen a nadie y que se contenten con lo que tienen (cf. Lc 3,14). Su consejo es tan válido hoy como hace 2,000 años.
Al preparar nuestros corazones para celebrar el nacimiento del Salvador, no pensemos en acumular cosas materiales. Recordemos las muchas bendiciones que hemos recibido y propongamos compartirlas con otros pues “más vale dar que recibir” (Hch 20,35). Que Dios los bendiga.

With the blessing and lighting of the Advent wreath and the parish’s Christmas tree, we launched the season of Advent. Con la bendición e iluminación de la corona de Adviento y el árbol de Navidad de la parroquia comenzamos el Adviento.
The O Antiphons, also known as The Great Os are Magnificat antiphons used at Vespers of the last seven days of Advent as well as the alleluia verses on the same days in the Mass.
They are referred to as the "O Antiphons" because the title of each one begins with the interjection "O", and each one names one of the attributes of Christ mentioned in Scripture. They are:
December 17: O Sapientia (O Wisdom) December 18: O Adonai (O Lord)
December 19: O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse) December 20: O Clavis David (O Key of David)
December 21: O Oriens (O Dayspring) December 22: O Rex Gentium (O King of the nations)
December 23: O Emmanuel (O With Us is God)
The exact origin of the O Antiphons is not known, but their use was prevalent in monasteries and it may be concluded that in some fashion the O Antiphons have been part of our liturgical tradition since the very early Church.
The first letters of the titles taken backwards appear to form a Latin acrostic “Ero cras” which translates to "Tomorrow, I will be [there]". Therefore, the Lord Jesus, for whose coming we have prepared in Advent and whom we have addressed in these seven Messianic titles, now speaks to us: Tomorrow, I will come. So the O Antiphons not only bring intensity to our Advent preparation, but bring it to a joyful conclusion.

Las antífonas de Adviento, también conocidas como antífonas mayores, o antífonas O (por la letra con la que comienzan) son antífonas utilizadas en la Liturgia de las Horas, durante las vísperas de los últimos días de Adviento, y forman el verso del Aleluya recitado antes del Evangelio en la Misa de los días de semana entre el 17 y el 23 de diciembre. Las primeras letras de los títulos leídas en sentido inverso forman el acróstico latino «Ero Cras», que significa «Mañana, yo vendré», y reflejan el tema de las antífonas. Así Jesús, para cuya venida se han preparado los cristianos durante el Adviento y a quien se dirigen con estos siete títulos mesiánicos, les habla ahora: Mañana vendré. De este modo, las antífonas de Adviento no sólo infunden intensidad a la preparación del Adviento, sino que lo conducen hacia su alegre fin.

Meet New Saints /Conozca nuevos Santos ST. AMATO RONCONI (1225-1292) — Italian layman, a
professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order due to his desire to follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi. Ronconi lived a life of penitence and dedicated all his works to the poor through the construction of chapels and hospitals - one such hospital still exists in his home of Rimini. His good deeds never went unnoticed, and the townspeople hailed Ronconi as a saint in their midst even in the face of a slanderous accusation spread by a jealous sister-in-law.
He was locally venerated for several centuries. Pope Francis confirmed his heroic virtues and, after a miracle obtained through his intercession was approved, he canonized Ronconi in November, 2014.
SAN AMATO RONCONI (1225-1292) — Laico italiano, miembro profeso de la Orden Tercera Franciscana, por su deseo de seguir los pasos de San Francisco de Asís. Ronconi vivió una vida de penitencia y dedicó su trabajo a los pobres, construyendo para ellos capillas y hospitales, uno de los cuales todavía existe en Rimini. Sus buenas obras siempre fueron reconocidas, y sus convecinos lo alababan como santo a pesar de una calumnia difundida por su celosa cuñada.

In today’s Gospel, there is a question posed three times: “What shall we do?” (Lk 3:10, 12, 14). It is raised to John the Baptist by three
categories of people: First, the crowd in general; second, the publicans or tax collectors; and, third, some soldiers.
We feel that this question — “What shall we do?” — is ours also. Today’s liturgy tells us, in the words of John, that it is necessary to repent, to
change direction and take the path of justice, solidarity, sobriety: these are the essential values of a fully human and genuinely Christian
life. Repent! It sums up the message of the Baptist. And the Liturgy of this Third Sunday of Advent helps us to rediscover a special dimension
of repentance: joy. Whoever repents and approaches the Lord, feels joy…. Today, it takes courage to speak of joy, which, above all, requires faith! The world is beset by many
problems, the future is burdened by uncertainties and fears. Yet, Christians are a joyful people, and their joy is not something superficial and ephemeral, but deep and stable,
because it is a gift from the Lord that fills life.

En el Evangelio de hoy hay una pregunta que se repite tres veces: «¿Qué cosa tenemos que hacer?» (Lc 3, 10.12.14). Se la dirigen a Juan el Bautista tres categorías de personas: primero, la multitud en general; segundo, los publicanos, es decir los cobradores de impuestos; y tercero, algunos soldados.
Esta pregunta —¿qué tenemos que hacer?— la sentimos también nuestra. La liturgia de hoy nos repite, con las palabras de Juan, que es preciso convertirse, es necesario cambiar dirección de marcha y tomar el camino de la justicia, la solidaridad, la sobriedad: son los valores imprescindibles de una existencia plenamente humana y auténticamente cristiana. ¡Convertíos! Es la síntesis del mensaje del Bautista. Y la liturgia de este tercer domingo de Adviento nos ayuda a descubrir nuevamente una dimensión particular de la conversión: la alegría. Quien se convierte y se acerca al Señor experimenta la alegría (…) Hoy se necesita valentía para hablar de alegría, ¡se necesita sobre todo fe! El mundo se ve acosado por muchos problemas, el futuro gravado por incógnitas y temores. Y sin embargo el cristiano es una persona alegre, y su alegría no es algo superficial y efímero, sino profunda y estable, porque es un don del Señor que llena la vida.
