A note for you: Now a days we hear a lot of talking about welfare, especially in the world of politics. Some want to get rid of it or at least limit it. Others want to contin-ue as it has been. Most of the discussion is based on the cost and abuses. As Christians how do we look at welfare as it is? This is not just a civil matter. It is also a moral matter. We believe we should have compassion. We believe that all people should have what they need to survive. There should be none who suffers from hunger, lack of clothes, lack of medical care or lack of housing. As Chris-tians we are to share what we have with those in real need. In this sense welfare should continue. The government which taxes us should use some of its funds to make sure that none lacks what is needed to survive reason-ably. If you really need it you should get it. The problem arises because of those who abuse and take advantage of the welfare system. Some just don’t want to work. They want others to take care of them rather than taking care of themselves. Others lie or use other tricks and exaggerations to qualify for welfare. At the same time they have a big-new car, or one of the best TV sets, a fancy expensive cell phone and many other things they want but really don’t’ need. Those who get welfare when they really don’t honestly qualify are stealing. They are breaking God’s commandment: “You should not steal”. This be-comes a very serious sin because of the large amount of money involved over time. Also this makes less money available for those who really need help. Besides this, it gives those who really need help a bad name. This is an injustice. As followers of Jesus we are to love and be compassionate and help those in true need. For this reason we Christians need to support welfare. At the same time we Christians need to oppose those who get welfare unjustly when they really don’t qualify. Welfare shouldn’t be eliminated. It just needs to be cleaned up.

Algunos simplemente no quieren trabajar.
