PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION TODAY
TODAY our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry
out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression and disasters.
This annual Collection for the Holy Father takes place on the
Sunday nearest the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29th. Please return your Peter’s Pence envelope today in order to
include it in this current Fiscal Year, which ends June 30th. We thank you on behalf of Pope Francis for your generosity.
CHECK OUT OUR FIRST 2 BULLETIN AD MEMORIALS On the back of today’s bulletin, we have printed our first two
Bulletin Ad Memorials. We would love to have a few more. We
were hoping to run Memorial Ads in conjunction with our fiscal year (July-June; just like our business ads). So, if you are interested
in remembering a loved one in this way, please call Andrea at the Parish Office before June 29th.
WANTED: BULLETIN ADVERTISERS
We also have begun the process of soliciting advertisers for the back cover of our bulletin for this upcoming fiscal year.
Bulletin ads are an inexpensive way to advertise a business. A single block (1” X 2”) costs a mere $200 for the whole year, that’s
less than $4/week. Please call the Parish Office if you or someone you know would like to take out a bulletin ad. Our advertisers
make possible our in-house bulletin publication. We truly thank
them for their support and ask that you support them in turn.
LADIES KNIGHTLY NEWS . . . Parish Cookbook
Our Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus is preparing a wonderful custom cookbook featuring favorite recipes from our parishioners. This professionally-published cookbook will cost $10 and will be available in time for your Holiday gift-giving. It is certain to become a treasured keepsake. So plan now to order multiple copies for family & friends. However, right now we need your favorite recipes in order to complete it. You can submit your recipes in one of two ways:
1. Use the form in the back of church and follow the guidelines on it for writing out your recipe. Then simply drop your written recipe
in the collection basket TODAY or give it to one of the Ladies Auxiliary members mentioned on the form.
2. Email your recipes (by 6/26) to [email protected]
NEW PARISH COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES We welcome to our Parish Council our 3 new representatives: Barbara Landschoot, Valerie LaPresi-Schmitz and Jene
Trimm. They will be serving a three-year term and joining
current members: Sherry DeCook, Jonathan Herendeen and Cy Opett (who have two years remaining on their three-year
terms) We thank all of our Parish Council representatives, past, continuing & new ones, for their dedicated service to our parish.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME June 26, 2016
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Parishioners, Thanks to Herendeen Brothers, who will be
installing the new stove in the Rectory this week. We got a 35% discount due to a Sears store closing.
The cost, including delivery, was $654.98, to be paid for by the
Buildings and Grounds Memorial Fund. It is important to include St. Peter’s RC Parish in Wills and Obituaries so that we
can keep up with repairs to our ten buildings and our equipment. We have received a check from the Diocese in the amount of
$338.00, which is half of the amount ($675.00) our parish overpaid to last year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal. This money
was also put into the Memorial Fund.
On the feast of St. John Fisher last Wednesday, I attended a K of C dinner in Rochester honoring local clergy and religious.
(See photo below.) Saint John Fisher (1469-1535) was Cardinal Bishop of Rochester, England and Patron Saint of our Diocese.
He was beheaded by order of King Henry VIII for refusing to
become Protestant. This week, chalices will be given by the K of C to the three new priests.
A new Flag will be raised at St. Francis Church by American Legion members after the 10:00 AM Mass this weekend.
Thanks to Jim Cheney who did a presentation on the history of St. Felix Church last Tuesday for the Clifton Springs
Historical Society. All five churches in the Village were
represented. Thanks to Jim Trader who donated a Gingko Tree seedling
to St. Felix Church. This is descended from trees planted at the corner of Main and Spring Streets 119 years ago by Dr. Foster.
Gingko biloba is the oldest known species of tree on earth. The
fossils show they once flourished across our continent. Thought to be extinct, they were found in China. The trees can reach 30
to 100 feet in height and last a thousand years. Dr. Henry Foster (1821-1901) was given seeds by missionaries who visited China.
Finally, thanks to Sandy Cooke and Sherry Brown who
have officially retired after many years of service to our parish. Sincerely, Father Gagnier
Sister Janice Nadeau, SSND & Bishop Matano with Father Gagnier at Knights of Columbus Dinner, Wednesday June 22, the
Feast of St. John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester, England.

ABOUT THE MISSION IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF KUMASI, GHANA
The Archdiocese of Kumasi, in Ghana (West Africa), was established in 1950 by missionaries.
During the past 45 years the growth of the Church in Ghana has been blessed and currently
there are 16 dioceses and 4 archdioceses.
The City of Kumasi, the seat of Archdiocese of Kumasi has a population of about 2,437,000
people; many living in rural settings. The Catholic population is around 365,000. The work of
evangelization takes many forms and continues through the generous support of Catholics
worldwide.
The Church’s healing ministry and efforts in primary evangelization becomes evident through
projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of people such as the building and
upgrading of health clinics, the care for street children and providing accessible, clean drinking
water by building new wells, especially on school grounds. It is surprising that there are still
many areas where people walk a great distance for clean drinking water.
Your support also assists in the building of new schools for the education of youth and for
spiritual growth. Teachers are in short supply and a new Teachers’ College, Christ the Teacher
College of Education, has recently opened for the formation of Catholic Teachers. In addition to
the academic disciplines, the student-teachers to be trained here will be exposed to Catholic
Theology and the social teachings of the Church in order to become agents of evangelization in
their interaction with students in primary junior and senior high.
Contributions received also benefit Saint Gregory the Great Major Seminary, as well as a Girl’s
Hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The generous contribu-
tions we have received have helped give rise to an increase of vocations.
Archbishop Gabriel J. Anokye expresses his gratitude to the Church in America and acknowledges
that the generosity of American Catholics has immensely improved the condition of many people
of Kumasi and has aided the growth of the Church in Africa.
We thank you in anticipation for your welcome & hospitality offered to our missionary representative
visiting your parish community on July 9/10 and for the support you offer. We truly appreciate
the prayers and contributions we receive and strive to be good stewards of what we receive so
that it may have the greatest possible positive impact. Your parish family will be remembered in
Masses and prayers offered by the priests, deacons, religious, and missionaries serving in the
Archdiocese of Kumasi, Ghana. God’s Blessings!
Rev. Anthony Appiah
Archdiocesan U.S. Representative, St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Arlington Diocese, Virginia.
