From the desk of Father Alan. Wow, always so many changes in life ! It makes life challenging and hopefully we grow from it. We ask you to keep Father Lucio in your prayers as he has moved to Strathroy, where he owns a home and will work with the Diocese of London from that location. We will miss Father Lucio, we wish him well and ask you to pray for him. Our Family of Parishes gave Fr. Lucio a financial gift, and many of you were very kind in your gift giving to him. Blessings to Fr. Lucio Couto ! This weekend November 2 and 3, we welcome Fr. Brian McColl to Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs and St. Bernard’s, and the following weekend November 9 and 10 we welcome Fr. Frank Murphy to St. Mary’s and St. Cecilia’s. We thank them both for assisting us in replacing Fr. Lucio. On the weekend of November 16 and 17, we welcome Father Thomas Donahue, who will join our Pastoral Team until January 2, 2020. You will find Bishop Fabbro’s official announcement below. Bishop Fabbro announces the following pastoral appointments and changes:

Reverend Thomas Donohue, currently retired, will be assigned to support the Catholic Family of Parishes in Norfolk until December 31, 2019. From the desk of Deacon Frank The Interview With God

I dreamed I had an interview with God. “So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said. God smiled. “My time is eternity.

What questions do you have in mind for me?” “What surprises you most about humankind?”

God answered . . . “That they get bored with childhood, They rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.

That they lose their health to make money . . . And then lose their money to restore their health.

That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, Such that they live in neither the present nor the future.

That they live as if they will never die, and die as if they have never lived.” God’s hand took mine and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked . . . “As a parent what are some of life’s lessons You want your children to learn? “To learn they cannot make anyone love them.

All they can do is let themselves be loved. To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness. To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds

In those they love, and it can take many years to heal them. To learn that a rich person is not who has the most,

But is one who needs the least. To learn that there are persons who love them dearly,

But simply have not yet learned how to express or show their feelings. To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it differently.

To learn that it is not enough that they forgive one another, But they must also forgive themselves.”

“Thank you for your time,” I said humbly. “Is there anything else you would like your children to know?”

God smiled and said, “Just know that I am here . . . always.”

World Mission Sunday This year World Mission Sunday was observed on the 20th of October 2019. However, our Catholic Family of Parishes in Norfolk will observe this on November 23 & 24, 2019. The envelopes will be in the bulletin November 16 and 17. Please give what is appropriate for your family. Each year at this time, we are called to focus our attention on the great needs of the Church in the Developing World. This year’s theme, “Baptized and Sent: The Church of Christ on the Mission in the World” reminds all baptized Catholics of their responsibility to share in the missionary work of the Church. During this Year of Prayer the Diocese of London is committed to: Being a mission-oriented Church that forms disciples of Jesus.

Syrian Family Update: Our two Syrian refugee families have almost been with us for one year already! The first family arrived on November 22nd, 2018 and the second family shortly thereafter, just before Christmas 2018. It has been extremely busy but very rewarding for the many volunteers who have assisted in helping the families settle in to our community. We are happy to share that the 4 adults and 9 children from the two families appear to be thriving in our community. The men have been employed in part-time, contract positions by a caring community partner since the end of June. Both men enjoy their jobs and are doing very well in their positions. Both mothers are continuing to attend ESL classes in Brantford as learning English is considered a high priority for all of the adults. The children are all enjoying school and as expected have learned their new language much more quickly than the adults. The children all had the opportunity to join in many community activities and sports programs over the summer months and into the fall. The community appears to have welcomed these lovely families with open arms as evidenced by many, many acts of kindness both within and outside the church community. They have all been made to feel safe and comfortable here and frequently express how grateful they are to have been welcomed in to such a wonderful country as Canada. Norfolk Refugee Committee

Book of Eternal Life Beginning November 1st, the Book of Eternal Life will be placed in all churches at the front near the

ambo (pulpit) for members of our parish community to write down the names of loved ones who have died. The names in this book will be remembered at our Masses throughout the month of November.

A GREAT AND GLORIOUS GOD Our readings today ponder two powerful truths: God is infinitely greater than we are; and God provides every kind of help so we can discover and share in God’s glory. The reading from Wisdom reminds us that we are tiny compared to “the LORD of the whole universe.” Nevertheless, God preserves and nurtures us out of perfect love. If we feel tiny, weak and sinful compared to God, we are blessed! God’s greatness sustains and strengthens us. Saint Paul encourages the Thessalonian Christians with the same message. He reminds them that God alone makes the Church holy. He prays that everything they undertake will be for the glory of God. Luke’s gospel shows us what this looks like in real life: Zacchaeus feeling small and excluded, looks for Jesus. Jesus finds him and gives him the strength he needs to repent of his sins and glorify God.
