StructureStructure : Construction is fairly simple. Most of the wall, roof, and floor panels are equilateral triangles. The exterior plywood skins are glued to 5 1/2" Styrofoam board insulation, creating a very strong stressed-skin panel with an R-28 insulation value.


Crystal EnergyCrystal Energy : The DNA Home derives its shape from the DNA molecule, the crystal which composes all life forms. It utilizes these crystal properties to create a clear environment. Lightning rods at the peaks attract the electrical charge of the sky. Wires transmit the charge to quartz crystals at each point, then down to grounding rods driven into the earth, thereby tuning the house to the variable frequency of the Earth.

LightingLighting : The quartz crystals resonate and emit electricity at 20,000 volts. Glass spheres enclose these crystals. The air is drawn out of the spheres and replaced with gases which ionize and fluoresce with the crystal charge. Energy conserving, compact full-spectrum fluorescent lights are powered by the solar and wind power generation systems.

Air/Heat ExchangeAir/Heat Exchange : The windows exchange heat from warm interior air being exhausted to fresh air entering. The interior air enters the inner window space at the top and as it loses heat through the window as it sinks out the bottom. The fresh air enters the outer window space at the bottom, picks up the heat being released by the room, and rises into the room at the top of the window. This captures about 85% of the heat from the exhausted interior air, giving it an effective insulation value equal to R-14, while the house has the fresh breath and scent of the outdoors.

WindowsWindows : The windows consist of three layers of clear Tedlar film, a very strong material which does not degrade in sunlight. Sunlight entering the south windows warms surfaces directly and indirectly as the warm air circulates to the shaded surfaces.

ElectricityElectricity : Solar photovoltaic panels generate electricity. Wind power from a wind generator in the tree tops increases in winter and during storms, as solar power is decreasing and lighting needs increase. Solar and wind electrical power feed through a charge controller into batteries. An inverter changes the 12v dc current to 110v ac.

Solar Hot Water and RefrigerationSolar Hot Water and Refrigeration : Solar collectors filled with Zeolite on the south roofs heat the water and cool the refrigerator. Zeolite adsorbs ten times its volume in water. Sunlight raises the temperature to 200°F, evaporating the water out of the Zeolite. Pushed by vapor pressure, the vapor condenses in butyl tubing within the hot water tank, transferring the heat of condensation. The condensed water then flows down to the refrigeration tubes. After sunset, the solar collectors cool and the Zeolite adsorbs the vapor, dropping the system vapor pressure to near vacuum. The water in the refrigeration tubes evaporates with the drop in vapor pressure, freezing the water remaining in the tubes. The ice in these tubes maintains refrigeration during the following day.

Rainwater CollectionRainwater Collection : Rainwater from the roof flows into a water tank located in the ceiling between the rooms. The water is filtered through sand, angel hair, and charcoal and flows to over-sized faucets through one-inch pipes, providing full flow at very low pressure. It also flows to the hot water tank and a thermo-siphoning solar collector located on the southern deck, which heats and filters water for a covered, insulated hot tub.

This pattern is fluid and balanced.
