Vandenberg AFB

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch 10 satellites for the Iridium next mobile communications fleet.
This mission will use a previously-flown first stage booster, and the first stage will land on SpaceX’s
drone ship in the Pacific Ocean. Delayed from October and late November. [Dec. 17]
Launch time: 01:27:23 UTC on 23rd (8:27:23 p.m. EST; 5:27:23 p.m. PST on 22nd)
Launch site: SLC-4E, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
This should be visible, at least from high ground, in San Gabriel Valley. It’s also shortly after sunset
(4:47 PM PDT) and the end of Civil Twilight (5:14 PM PDT) so the booster may be in sunlight while the
ground’s dark making for an especially nice display.

Porsche got bodies in the white, stiffened them, then

We hope you are enjoying the San Gabriel Valley Region smartphone app. As you know, it lists all the
members subscribing to the app. It defaults to displaying your e-mail address and telephone number.
In early October 2017, a vendor who is also an SGVR member harvested e-mail addresses and began
sending advertising to those addresses, which was contrary to our terms of service. We have received

Meet at the Chino Hills State Park Discovery Center (just 1.2 miles east of the corner of Carbon Canyon
Road & Valencia Ave in Brea), just before 6:30 AM on the first Sunday of EVERY MONTH! Departure time
is 6:35.6 AM SHARP!! All Porsches or whatever runs is welcome. Destination: the world famous Flo’s
Airport Café located at the Chino Airport.

19-21 January 2018, Santa Barbara Region Death Valley Porsche Days
Join us the weekend after Martin Luther King holiday for four-day tour of Death Valley. We will be
Starting our adventure at Ghost Shield in Newberry Park, California ( www.ghostshieldfilm.com ) for a
continental breakfast and drivers meeting. Heading out for the desert, we will stop for a catered box
lunch in Olancha, CA, then head east on CA-190 into Death Valley. The first view of Death Valley will be
from Towne Pass on Highway 190.
Our first night will be in Beatty, Nevada at the Stage Coach Inn and Casino. In the morning we will take a
short drive to Rhyolite for the beginning of our sightseeing day. Later in the day we will check into the
Oasis at Death Valley for a two-night stay. Our journey will visit the iconic sights of Death Valley,
including Artists Drive, Badwater Basin, Dante's View, Devil's Golf Course, Furnace Creek Visitor's Center,
Stovepipe Wells, Ubehebe Crater, and Zabriskie Point. Price per person is only $155.00 which includes
light breakfast on Friday, Friday lunch, dinner Sunday night at the Four-Star Oasis at Furnace Creek
(formerly The Inn at Furnace Creek) and activity fee. Hotel reservations for Friday night at the

At the Petersen Automotive Museum
The Petersen Automotive Museum is developing an exhibit called The Porsche Effect that will be on view
from February 3, 2018 to January 27, 2019. We have been working alongside Porsche Cars North
America and have recently connected with PCA.
PCA and the larger extended family of Porsche owners and enthusiasts will be explored in the exhibit’s
Extended Family section which will include a Club Coupe and artifacts from the PCA archive. We were
hoping that you could help us learn more about Zone 8’s history and determine additional ways that we
can collaborate with the local Porsche community.

Friday, 9 February 2018, Further Proceedings in DUI Trial of Hyun Jeong
Choi
Further proceedings are scheduled for Hyun Jeong Choi in the 27 March 2017 crash that killed 43-year-
old Amanda Walzer and left her fiancé, 49-year-old Jon Warshawsky, unable to care for himself due to a
brain injury.
After Further Proceedings on Monday, 18 January 2017 the scheduled Friday, 19 January 2018, Felony
Other Motion Hearing and Monday, 29 January 2018 Felony Jury Trial scheduled for Hyun Jeong Choi,
34 were vacated. Ms. Choi is/was charged with:
23153(E) VC DUI Drugs: Bodily Injury
191.5(A) PC Gross Vehicle Manslaughter
187(A) PC Murder: First Degree
She faces 21 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges. Ms. Choi is represented by Attorney
Stephen G. Cline.
Warshawsky and Walzer were driving in his 1956 Porsche Speedster on Pomerado Road in Scripps Ranch
when Choi’s Toyota Corolla crossed a raised center divider and hit the Porsche head-on about 5:30 PM
on Easter Sunday. The “accident” is described at: Poway Patch, KUSI, Times of San Diego, and San Diego
Union Tribune.
The case number is SCD266279 in San Diego Superior Court, Central Division, County Courthouse in

Hyun Jeong Choi has been held in the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, CA since
28 March 2016—her bail was set at $ 3,000,000.
Lawsuit against San Diego
From The San Diego Reader, by Dorian Hargrove, June 7, 2017
In March of 2017, Jon Warshawsky sued the City of San Diego for improper design of the center median
and failure to maintain it.
According to public documents obtained by the Reader, the median was the cause of at least one other
accident prior to the collision and the subject of numerous complaints — one of which came from the
San Diego Police Department — for poor visibility in months preceding the death of Walzer.

the Monterey Peninsula.

For 2018 there will be a new class Ganz Übergang [German for “whole transition”] for new cars with
hard-to-judge engines. It will be analogous to Full Concours but without engine judging:

I guess there will be a drive from there through the canyons and eventually end up in Montrose on Honolulu ave where there are a bunch of restaurants.

Rennsport Reunion VI Groupings Announced
From Mazda Raceway’s The Corkscrew, 13 December 2017:
Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced the latest race
groupings and competition applicant information for the four-day “family reunion,” September 27-30,
2018. Following tradition, Rennsport Reunion VI will once again reunite the cars and drivers that
together have written a large part of motorsports history over the past 70 years.
As in the past five reunions, cars will be grouped by the period in which they raced so that enthusiasts
can focus on the different motorsports eras, while also maximizing the number of cars in each class.
Fans will have full access to both the paddock and trackside locations to see and hear everything from
early 356 sports cars, through the groundbreaking 917, to the latest Le Mans winning 919 LMP1 Hybrid –
and almost every number near and dear to Porsche enthusiasts in between: 550, 904, 908, 962 and of
course, 911 and 935.
Enthusiasts interested in registering their Porsche race cars for competition at Porsche Rennsport
Reunion VI have until April 1, 2018 to apply HERE. A selection committee will verify proper livery,
mechanical correctness and historical race provenance.

Tractor Driver Destroys Six Speed Cameras on Germany Rampage
From The BBC, 12 December 2017:
Police say a tractor driver who went on a rampage in Germany knocked down six speed cameras,
causing hundreds of thousands of euros worth of damage.
Police say the 63-year-old intentionally aimed at the cameras in the small town of Gernsheim in the
Hesse region on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
The cameras were several miles apart in the town on the Rhine river, 50km (30 miles) from Frankfurt.
The man's motive is not yet clear.
A police spokesman said the driver had no alcohol in his system.
However it is unlikely that he had been issued with a ticket when previously driving the tractor, which
could only drive at six km/h (4mph).
Police said the man would be charged with criminal damage.
