2014 Club Captain: Shane FeganIt is an honour for me to be elected Captain for 2014.
It’s over 30 years now since my father and I were hitting golf balls in stub-ble covered fields after the first cut of silage, where the 3rd hole is now. It’sthere that the dream of turning the farm with its many stone ditches into agolf course was born. My father spent many years turning that dream intoa reality. It is unbelievable how things have moved on in what seems sucha short space of time. My respect for him and pride in what he has built ismagnified by the fact it was done almost single handedly, thanks dad,amazing!
This year my goals as Captain are to further improve the course,continuing to upgrade tee boxes, add ball washers, benches and furtherimprove the general appearance of the course for members and visitors. Ialso want to see Mayobridge Golf Club members show their true potentialin interclub GUI and Cowdy competitions, and would remind teams of theimportance of away practice rounds in order to get a couple of away points.My chosen charity for the club this year is Southern Area Hospice and wewill have an open charity weekend competition on the 7th/8th June.
This time last year I was just starting to take a few steps againafter my scrambler accident and I really do count my blessings knowing Iwill be back playing golf again in 2014. It’s great that we have new mem-bers coming in and I know you will make them all feel welcome, it’s whatour club is about. We have various prize giving nights coming up through-out the year, and some great music planned, it’s important that memberssupport these nights and turn up to collect prizes or support those who havebeen that lucky. Lastly slow play, remember your group can play as slow asyou want, just as long as you don’t make every group behind play at thatpace, always allow quicker groups past at your earliest convenience. Myvice captain, Des Carson, and I are honoured to represent Mayobridge GolfClub in 2014, so let the competitions commence, have a great years golf andcraic!

2014 Club Competition Entry Rules;EECCLL BBoowwll CCoommppeettiittiioonnThis ECL Bowl Competition takes place over 8 rounds on dates specified in theMembers Diary. Members can only return one card per round either on aSaturday or Sunday. The entry fee for each round will be £3.00. Players must signin electronically before the commencement of each round.The best Stableford score recorded at each hole will count towards eachMembers final score. Members do not need to play all 8 rounds but the morerounds played increases the chance of gaining points at individual holes.It is each player’s responsibility to record their own score electronically aftercompletion of each round. All Competition cards must be returned into theCompetition Box. Periodic Leadership positions will be posted on the noticeboard in the golf shop and on-line. All rounds played in this Competition arequalifying rounds for handicap purposes. Scores will be based on members’current handicap at the start of each individual round.In the event of a tie after the conclusion of all 8 rounds, the overall winner willbe decided by that player with the most wins or the number of highest overallfinishes over the 8 rounds The Competition Committee’s decision on any mattersrelating to this Competition will be final.

Individual rounds mmuusstt be completed by the dates shown on thedraw sheets which will be posted in the clubhouse. It is the responsibility of bbootthhplayers to arrange and complete any match by the due date playable. If on thefinal due date playable of any stipulated round, in any Match Play Competition,a Competitor makes himself available to play by presenting himself at 2.00 p.m.at the clubhouse and his opponent fails to appear, the available player willprogress to the next round as his opponent will be deemed to have forfeited thematch. If neither player makes himself available at the stipulated time of2.00p.m. on the final due date of the Competition then both players are disqualified from that Competition. All Members are eligible to play in both theMatch Play Championship and Match Play Shield Competitions. Entry fee of£3.00 is payable bbeeffoorree the commencement of 1st round of each Match PlayCompetition. If the Match goes beyond the 18th hole then the player with the24 handicap has another 6 shots which he can allocate, however the 6 shots canonly be allocated against those holes with an index of between 1 and 6.MMiidd--WWeeeekk CCoommppeettiittiioonnss..The Midweek Spring Trophy, The Midweek Summer Cup and TheMidweek Autumn Cup can be played on either, Tuesday,Wednesday or Thursday of any given week.
