MATARÓ

Mataró  is the capital and largest city of the comarca of the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia Autonomous Community, Spain. It is located on the Costa del Maresme, to the south of Costa Brava, between Cabrera de Mar and Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, to the 30 kilometres (19 miles) north-east of Barcelona.

Mataró dates back to Roman times when it was a village known as "Illuro"

The ruins of a first-century BC Roman bath house (known locally as the Torre Llauder) were recently discovered and can be visited.

THE SAINTS

Les Santes (The Saints). The National Festival per excellence of Mataró and in relation to our country. In honor to the saints Juliana and Semproniana, patronesses saints of the city.

EASTEREaster Processions. More than ten religious acts in different places of the city define Easter in Mataró; it unites all the fraternities, brotherhoods and Armed (roman peace soldiers) of Mataró, in one of the events with more followers. Each fraternity has its processions in which they show their mysteries, but there is one event, the pession of "Divendres Sant" , that gathers them all in a single route.

CastellsA castell   is a human tower built traditionally in festivals at many locations within Catalonia. At these festivals, several colles castelleres or teams often succeed in building and dismantling a tower's structureIn Mataro the “castellers” are called “capgrossos” (big-heads)

BEACHESMataró has 2.2 km of granite sand beaches (platges) organized, from west to east, into Ponent Beach, Varador Beach, Callao Beach and Sant Simó Beach, all equipped with multiple services.

VARADOR BEACHPlatja del Varador is situated between the breakwater of the old Nautical Club and the Port of Mataró.

CALLAO BEACHPlatja del Callao is a family and sports beach situated between the Riera de Sant Simó and the breakwater of the old Nautical Club of Mataró

PONENT BEACHPlatja de Ponent is a family beach located between the port and the breakwater opposite the tunnel from Ave.

SANT SIMO BEACH

Platja de Sant Simó extends from the Riera de Sant Simó to the area of the Castell de Mata Hotel.
