DWC Process Making Inroads GTC started offering its dividing wall column (DWC) process
commercially in 2012 and the effort and time are showing
many positive results. The company has reached agreements
for six projects in the past year to provide advanced
distillation systems for a variety of applications, including
mixed xylene recovery, LPG recovery, food grade hexane and
reformate splitter. Manish Bhargava, Licensing Manager –
Houston, spearheads the DWC team which involves
colleagues from Licensing, Technical Services, Engineering
and PET.
“We are pleased that our clients are seeing the opportunity
to save energy and equipment expenditures through our
product line of advanced distillation systems,” said Manish.
Current projects
1) Tonen Chemical (Japan) - GT-DWC℠ Mixed Xylene Recovery
2) Alon USA Energy (USA) - GT-LPG MAX LPG Recovery
3) PTTGC (Thailand) - GT-ATCS℠ Benzene/Toluene Column
4) BPCL (India) - GT-TDWC℠ Food Grade Hexane
5) Shenchi (China) - GT-DWC℠ Reformate Splitter
6) Reliance( India) - GT-DWC℠ Reformate Splitter
The most recent win from Reliance Industries is a significant breakthrough for GTC in that:
It is the first DWC application within Reliance Industries, which has numerous opportunities for
similar projects in the future.
GTC prevailed in the face of a tough negotiation, and more commercially-experienced competitors.
Other notable milestones include:
Fastest DWC project ever executed in the world, with the BEP start date to column tray installation
taking three months (December 2014 to March 2015).
Degree of complexity of the revamp, entailing the dividing wall column with two diameters, an
eccentric wall, trays and packing, sidedraw and bottoms reboiler.
Degree of difficulty for the PET group, with very tight deadlines of just eight weeks for tray
fabrication with 15 days available for tray and wall installation.
