Grey nuns monuments

1-Saint Boniface Cathedral Cemetery

This monument is located north of the footpath that separates the 500 Taché residence and

the Saint-Boniface Cathedral. It lists the names of nuns from various Canadian nun orders.

This monument was inaugurated in 2010. Its design is attributed to P. Brunet.

2- Commemorative monument, : Appel de l’esprit (Spiritu vocat), Saint Boniface heritage

garden

On the occasion of the Manitoba Catholic Health Association s Legacy of Tradition of Care ,

Courage and Compassion project, a memorial site was erected in June 20th, 2016. This site

includes a monument honoring women s congregation in Manitoba as well as panels

emphasizing their contribution to the community.

3- Monument for 175th anniversary of Grey Nuns in Manitoba

This monument is located on the banks of the Red River at the corner of Taché Avenue and

Despins Street. It was designed by Madeleine Vrignon and inaugurated on October 16 th

2019.to honor the heritage of the Grey Nuns. On this site, you will find interpretive panels

and learn more about the Grey Nuns.

4- St.Boniface Hospital School of Nursing

This school was founded in 1927. A memorial plate was erected in 2002, as the site became a

historical monument and a historical location in Canada. The plate highlights the Grey Nuns

contribution in the medical sector.

5- Grey Nuns Monument

The Grey Nuns Monument is in La Vérendrye Park. It was unveiled in 1944 to celebrate the

100th anniversary of the arrival of the Grey Nuns on the Red River colony.

6- End of Tour

Visit the St. Boniface Museum, housed in Winnipeg’s oldest building to continue your tour!

You will find a gallery all about the Grey Nuns and their many accomplishments in section C

of the museum. In this gallery you can learn about the Grey Nuns life in the convent as well

as their many roles in the education department, to then care for people in need and to offer

services in the health department.
