Karlovy -Vary Artists
Artists from Karlovy -Vary, in the
Czech Republic, Carlsbad’s sister city,
will display their work at the COAL
Gallery in June, 2016. A reception in
their honor will be held on June 12th
3pm -5pm. See pages 2 & 3 for more
information.
A native of New York, Toni moved to San Diego in 1972 to finish her education at UCSD in La Jolla with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts. Taken with the arid and temperate climate of Southern California, Toni’s work has been influenced by the great plein air artists in the San Diego Area at the turn of the century, namely Maurice Braun, Charles Fries and William Wendt. In the pursuit of gaining experience in painting the human form, Toni has studied under the tutelage of friend and mentor, Marileigh Schulte. She has attended workshops with Ray Roberts, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Pat Kelly, Calvin Liang, Mark Kerckhoff and Greg Carter.

A few words from COAL President, Bob Mussay about the Karlovy-Vary Artists’ Visit . . . On Sunday, June 12, 3:00 - 5:00 pm our Gallery will be hosting three artists from our sister city Karlovy-Vary in the Czech
Republic. Last year six artists were chosen from Carlsbad's COAL Gallery to go to and exhibit their art in Karlovy-Vary's
Municipal Gallery in August. They were lodged for four nights, had a reception, toured famous sites and met with local
artists. The return exchange will have Karlovy-Vary artists come to and exhibit at COAL Gallery this June and will offer
them the same amenities.
All our members are invited to attend the reception and meet fellow artists from another country. Food will be provided
by COAL but members are asked to donate wine. Please help us show our Czech visitors a gracious time and allow
Carlsbad residents the opportunity to see this wonderful art and learn about its namesake sister city. See page 3 for more
about the Karlovy-Vary artists, exhibit and reception.

June Show - PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TAKE-IN DAY
Take-in Wednesday, June 1, 10AM-4PM, Regular Entries
As a result of the International Art Exchange and the Karlovy-Vary
Artists’ visit, the COAL Gallery will have more visitors and public
attention during the month of June which should result in more
sales.
Thank you, volunteers!
Without your help, the gallery could not remain open.
Make this a great year. Get involved. Volunteer!
Flooring Repairs
Our Gallery has experienced water damage from above. Most of
the damage is to the flooring which will be replaced. The timing
for replacement depends on how long it takes the concrete to
thoroughly dry out, possibly 2-6 weeks. The building and health
department inspectors each make this determination.
The gallery will remain open during repairs.
The shrink wraps of four artists were damaged. We will be setting
up meetings between the artists and the insurance company to
resolve damages.
Thank you all for working with us during these repairs. The gallery
will be beautiful again very soon.
Bob Mussay President
The Carlsbad Oceanside Art League
would like to extend a very special thank
you to the Carlsbad Inn for all of their
support of COAL’s Art on the Green.

businesses. Last August the six COAL artists’ work was exhibited in the Karlovy-Vary's Municipal Gallery. They

A reception in honor of the Czech artists will be held on June 12th from 3pm-5pm (?). We are expecting Czech & local dignitaries, including the Czech counsel general (???) & the Carlsbad mayor. Last year, COAL artists Lois Athearn, Diane O’Connell, David Schlegel, Rita Shulak, Ellie Havel Thomas and Sibylla Voll were featured in an exhibit in Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic.
