This tutorial illustrates how to install and use the new Juniper VPN.
The Juniper VPN can be used to access:
• Banner HR at USNH• Banner Finance at USNH• Access Databases / ODBC•Internal PSU resources from remote locations (home, hotels, etc.)• Anything you access using the Nortel Contivity VPN
Note that access to Banner INB no longer requires the VPN whenconnecting from on-campus.
The Juniper VPN uses a client called “Network Connect.”
Network Connect (or Net Connect) is an applet which must first be installed using Internet Explorer.
After installation is complete, you can use your preferred browser.
Once installed, Net Connect can be launched from your Program Menu as any other application.
The following slides illustrate each step for installation and use of Net Connect.
Note that the images and instructions may vary due to operating system, browser version and security settings.
The “Loading Components…” screen will appear.
Be patient while your system is checked with Host Checker.
Your Home page will appear.
The appearance of your Home page will vary depending on your role in the Domain.
Note the section titled “Client Application Sessions.” It contains the Network Connect applet.
An icon of an orange padlock will appear in your system tray, indicating that Net Connect is running.
You can now access your applications securely.
To disconnect, right-click the icon and choose “Exit”.
Once Net Connect is running, you can close your browser and work normally.
To access Net Connect in the future, you can launch it by going to:
Start >> All Programs >> Juniper Networks >> Network Connect 6.1.0 >> Network Connect
If you find it more convenient, feel free to create a shortcut on your desktop to the Network Connect icon.
By default, only one VPN session per username can be launched at a time. If you require more than one concurrent connection to the VPN
(for example, if you have multiple computers, each requiring a simultaneous connection), or for any other questions you may have, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 535-2929.
