provided an update on the Youth Exchange Committee. Student Applicant Interviews were held last weekend. Steve expressed that the committee is looking for students to apply for upcoming years. Kim then called for Day-10’s. Chuck and Dona Vella gave Day-100’s to honor the birth of their grandson. Jena Pado gave a Day-$100 for her birthday. Tom Maultsby gave a Day-$100 to announce United Way’s Drive United Car Raffle. Paul Gruner gave a Day-$21 (rounded to $25) for the year the Third St. Bridge would be finished, 2021. Kim then turned the meeting back to President Jean. President Jean requested Rick Wegmann pro-vide an update from the Nominating Committee. Nominees were announced and voting will take place on Dec. 9th. Jean then had Shaun Yu pro-vide an overview of the mentoring program with Dayton Public Schools to build future leaders for tomorrow. Anyone interested in being a mentor is encouraged to attend an informational meeting after the Rotary Meeting on Dec. 16th. Jean then invited Bill Nance to provide a Vocational Profile with Stan Senak. Stan provided a brief overview of the new developments at Kroc Center includ-ing a soccer field, pickle ball court, track, and community gathering space. Brian Martin then introduced speaker of the day, fellow Rotarian Paul Gruner, Montgomery Coun-ty Engineer. Gruner gave an overview of the Third St. Bridge project. The bridge is commonly referred to as the Peace Bridge. It was originally built in the 1800’s as a covered bridge. In 1904, the bridge was replaced with a spandrel arch bridge. The bridge was updated in 1949 to pro-vide additional support through steel sheet pil-ings that went over the 1904 structures. Total budget for the bridge replacement is $19.5 mil-lion. The project will take two years to complete. 95% of the project is funded through ODOT. Additional funding came through Ohio Public Works. Funding needed from the county was only an approximate $450,000. Bing Davis col-laborated on the project as a local artist. There was a lengthy Public Involvement Process that helped to enhance the final project and highlight the rich culture and history of the Dayton Region. More information on the project can be found on the county website.
