We acknowledge the Mouheneener People, the traditional custodians of this land on which we gather for worship.

This church seeks to be a place of safety and acceptance for all people.

Luke 16: 19-31 Don’t you hate it when you’re talking to someone and you just can’t remember their name? Alarmingly, a senior’s moment such as this is all the more awkward because you know full well how it feels when someone doesn’t remember yours. There is a lot in a name. It’s your identity and without a name you’re…well… nobody! In most cultures the wealthier you are the more powerful you are; the more likely people are going to know who you are and the less likely you are going to know who they are. There is an interesting subversion of this anthropological phenomena in the way that Jesus tells this parable. “There once was a rich man, dressed in royal purple and the finest linen…” Who was he? Nobody knows. Its not important. “There was also a poor person whose name was Lazarus.” Who in this story is important to God? Of course it then begs the question; Does Jesus know your name? Or… are you just some rich dude? Rev. Michael Duke

Special Meeting of Tas Friends of Palestine 13 Oct at 10am - see below.

Kingston Church Council Meeting 17 October

Sun 20 October Combined Service for Greater Hobart Uniting Churches at Turnbulls Funeral Chapel, 71 Letitia Street.at 10 am.

Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Mission Club which operates out of Scots –Memorial UC has asked that we support their project of collecting bread tags for wheelchairs. Please save your bread bag tags and place them in the container provided at the back of the Church.

Rock Pool

At Rock Pool we have witnessed the power of prayer, both silent and spo-ken, to work in releasing goodness, healing and wholeness for people within our community and beyond.

Bronwyn and, to a lesser extent, Judith, are going to be away at times dur-ing August/ September.

We would however like the Rock Pool space to be used whether we are here or not. Please come along to our corner space on Fridays at 3, sit quietly if alone, or share with others.

Bring along your own resources to share, use the books left, sit quietly and enjoy the view giving thanks to God, and talk to God about what’s on your mind.

Pray for any situation that you are aware of, or that comes to mind.

Keys to the church are available from Scott, or you may be able to liaise with others who have an interest in quiet meditation and prayer about who might be attending.

Come along and see where the Spirit leads.

A delightful, hard-working young man who are volunteers with Glenorchy Commu-

nity Care would like to meet local people.

He is eager to tackle any job—gardening, cleaning etc. and are willing to work at

anything for a meal.

Tabish is from Pakistan 0412 076 336

Further information available from Marilyn Goninon 0418 123 530

Prayer If anyone would like prayer for yourself, others, or for any situation, please join one of the Church Council members in the Rockpool corner (near the piano) after the service. If you prefer more privacy we can go into the vestry.

“The drought conditions across the Murray-Darling Basin ...are now the most severe in 120 years of records. When times get tough in the bush, people can feel extremely lonely and isolated. But when they realise there are people who care and are willing to give them a hand up, they can find the strength to keep going.” (Frontier Services ) We are holding a BBQ after the Frontier Services Church Service today and peo-ple can donate to this wonderful cause.

The Special Meeting of Tasmanian Friends of Palestine has been rescheduled until Sunday 13 October at 10am, Ella Haddad’s office, Collins Street, Hobart. For those wishing to attend, please RSVP to Peta or Richard Skinner at [email protected]

Reminder: It’s nearly Roster Time!!! Please put your name down on the sheets at the back of the foyer if you can help out, also dates you may be unavailable. Many thanks!!

Presbytery Office Bearers - The Search Group for our next Presbytery Chairperson now has a wider brief.- to find suitable nominees for 3 positions: Chairperson Vacant November 2019 Secretary Vacant February 2020 Treasurer Currently vacant. We seek Expressions of Interest and names of people the Search Group could approach, not only because these roles are essential to the leadership of the Uniting Church in Tasmania, but also because they offer opportunity for growth and development in skills and in Christian discipleship. We are not necessarily seeking people who already have all the skills and experience to step into these roles, but people who sense the call of God to serve and are open to learn and grow within a leadership team. We invite mem-bers of the Uniting Church across Tasmania to pray for discernment for the Search Group and for the Presbytery, which elects the chairperson, and to consider your own involvement. Please direct comments and suggestions or Expressions of Interest to the Convenors : Brian Cole [email protected] or David Reeve [email protected]
