    An AICTE sponsored International Conference on Current Regulations for Medical Devices and

    In Vitro Diagnostics was held in JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, Tamil Nadu on the 18th

    and

    19th

    of October 2019. The main objective of the conference was to provide direct, reliable and

    valuable information on key aspects of medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic kits including its

    regulations in India. This seminar brought together some of the renowned R & D experts and

    Regulators to share information regarding the best practices and challenges in medical devices &

    IVD kits regulation in the country. A total of 300 delegates registered for the conference.

  • First Day- 18-10-2019

    The conference commenced with an inaugural ceremony at 10 am with an invocation song sung

    by students. Dr. Mohammed Azam Afzal, Vice Principal, welcomed the delegates, speakers,

    Chief Guest, and Guests of honor. The Chief Guest, Dr, Ravi Kant Sharma, Deputy Drug

    Controller, CDSCO, and the guests of honor Dr C Immanuel, Director- Research & Academics,

    Global Hospitals & Health City, Chennai, Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, Principal, Goa College of

    Pharmacy along with Dr. Mohammed Azam Afzal, Vice Principal, Dr. K Gowthamrajan, HOD,

    Department of Pharmaceutics and Dr GNK Ganesh, Course coordinator, Pharmaceutical

    Regulatory Affairs lit the lamp as per tradition. Chief guest, Dr Ravi Kant Sharma- Deputy Drug

    Controller, CDSCO, and other guests of honor, Dr C Immanuel, Director- Research &

    Academics, Global Hospitals & Health City, Chennai, Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao- Principal, Goa

    College of Pharmacy, Ms. Shanthy Gunasekaran- Deputy Drugs Controller, CDSCO- South

    Zone, Chennai, and Dr P Ramkumar-Vice president, Content and catalogue management,

    Netmeds.com were honored by various faculty members of the college. An introductory video

    created by the students about medical devices was exhibited before the presentation of the

    genesis of the seminar by Dr. GNK Ganesh, Course coordinator, Pharmaceutical Regulatory

    Affairs.

  • MoU with Global Hospitals and Health City, Chennai was renewed in that auspicious occasion

    by signing the agreement between Dr. Ponnusankar- HOD, Department of Pharmacy Practice

    and Dr. C Emmanuel- Director- Academics & Research- Global Hospitals and Health City,

    Chennai.

    with their words of wisdom. The Chief Guest, Dr, Ravi Kant Sharma, Deputy Drug Controller,

    CDSCO, delivered the keynote address. His good-self interacted with the audience through the

    Q&A session. At 12.25 PM the gathering was dispersed for high- tea.

  • The scientific session started at 1 PM. The first session was taken by Ms. Amrutha C – Scientist

    C (Medical Device Regulation), Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and

    Technology who spoke about “Meteriovigilance”. The session was chaired by Dr. R. Suresh

    Kumar. By the end of the talk, Dr. R Suresh Kumar and Dr. Gangadharappa H. V. handed over

    the certificate and memento to Ms. Amrutha C as a token of appreciation. At 1.45 PM the session

    came to an end and the gathering was dispersed for lunch.

    Post-lunch the scientific session commences at 2.30 PM. Mr. Evin Avirachan & Mr. Surya-

    Senior Regulatory professionals of Novo Nordisk Service center India Private Ltd. led the

    scientific session as they spoke about “Medical Device Filing in EU”. The session was chaired

    by Dr. N Jawahar and Dr. M Venkatesh M. By the end of the session Dr. N Jawahar and Dr. M

    Venkatesh P handed over the certificate and memento to the speakers as a token of appreciation.

    E-poster presentation was held in five different venues- RA Lab, Computer Lab, Dr. A P J Abdul

    Kalam Seminar hall, Auditorium and Dipiro’s Hall each accommodating 15 participants. A total

    of 73 delegates presented e-poster. Each delegate was awarded a participation certificate at the

    end of the presentation of the e-poster.

    Second day- 19-10-2019

    The first scientific session on the second day was taken by Mr. P. Ramkumar- Vice President,

    Content and catalogue management, Netmeds.com. He spoke about "E- Pharmacy". The session

    was chaired by Dr. V Senthil and Dr. Balamuralidhara V. By the end of the session Dr. V Senthil

    and Dr. Balamuralidhara V handed over the certificate and memento to the Mr. P. Ramkumar as

    a token of appreciation.

  • The first scientific session of the second day taken by Mr. P. Ramkumar- Vice President, Content

    and catalogue management, Netmeds.com about "E- Pharmacy".

    The next session was taken by Mr. M. Srinivasan- Manager QA operation, Ciba-Vision Johor

    Sdn. Bhd Alcon- A Novartis Division, Malaysia. He spoke about “Medical Device Regulation

    Global Perspective”. This session was chaired by Dr. V. Senthil. At the end of the session,

    Memento and certificate were handed over to Mr. M. Srinivasan by Dr. V. Senthil as a token of

    appreciation.

  • Mr. M. Srinivasan- Manager QA operation, Ciba-Vision Johor Sdn. Bhd Alcon- A Novartis

    Division, Malaysia talking about “Medical Device Regulation Global Perspective”.

    After tea break next session started at 12 PM which was taken by Mr. Rajagopal- Director,

    Bioopticure Therapeutics Pvt. Ltd., Puducherry on "Manufacturing of Medical Devices" This

    session was chaired by Dr. D Nagasamy Venkatesh. He handed over a certificate and memento

    to Mr. Rajagopal as a token of appreciation at the end of his talk.

  • Mr. Rajagopal- Director, Bioopticure Therapeutics Pvt. Ltd., Puducherry speaking about

    "Manufacturing of Medical Devices"

    The last scientific session was led by Mr. M. Sivakumar- QA & RA Manager, SMC Medical

    Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. He talked on the topic “Quality Management System on Medical

    Devices”. This session was chaired by Dr. D. Nagasamy Venkatesh. At the end of the session,

    Memento and certificate were handed over to Mr. M. Sivakumar by Dr. D. Nagasamy Venkatesh

    as a token of appreciation.

  • Mr. M. Sivakumar- QA & RA Manager, SMC Medical Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. talking on the

    topic “Quality Management System on Medical Devices”

    Valedictory function

    Started by 1.30 pm with the inviting Chairperson Dr Ravi Kant Sharma, Dr. K Gowthamarajan-

    HOD, Dr. GNK Ganesh-coordinator and Dr S. P Dhanbal-Principal onto the stage. Followed by

    the address by the Principal, which was then continued with the Vote of Thanks by Dr.

    Gowthamarajan. Certificates for the winners in e-poster competition was awarded by Dr Ravi

    Kant Sharma and Dr S. P. Dhanbal. Participation certificates were distributed by Dr. S. P

    Dhanbal to the delegates. The ceremony ended with National Anthem.
