Learning About Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

• Plagiarism is handing in someone else’s work to your teacher and putting your name on it.

(It is stealing)

Plagiarism is . . .

• Copying words, pictures, music, and ideas from someone without giving them the credit.

Plagiarism is . . .

• Copying someone else’s work without their permission.

So …..

• If you did not come up with the original idea, words, or music, then it doesn’t belong to you.

And…..

• Using it without getting permission or giving credit to the person who created it is stealing!

And…..

• Stealing is against the law.

If you want to use someone else’s work….. use it right!

• Use quotation marks around all words and phrases copied from a source and cite it!

• Give the person credit who created any of the ideas you use.

• Put information into your own words but remember to still give credit where credit is due!

Finally . . . .

• List all of the sources that you used.
