Villa Guinigi Museum, Via della Quarquonia. Treasures tracing the history of Lucca. In January the Cristo Eucaristico, a polychrome terracotta by Matteo Civitali (1436-1501), was returned to Lucca by the Italian police & placed in the museum more than 70 years after it was stolen by the Germans from Santa Maria della Rosa Church in February, 1944. The museum is open (summer hours) Tuesdays to Saturdays 8.30am to 1.30pm & (for accompanied visits) 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Tel. 0583 496033.
