The month of March will be a busy time at EGHS. We recently finished up the first week of ISTEP+ testing and the AP mock exams (practice test). In addition, Friday, March 10 will mark the end of the third nine weeks and students will have tests and projects to complete. I would also like to thank AD Coach Pari- daen, the faculty/staff, and community volunteers who all pitched in to help run a smooth basketball sectional here at EGHS. It was quite the undertaking but everyone did their part to make it a suc- cess. I encourage everyone to look through this issue of the Thunderbird Beat and read about all the exciting events and activities taking place. The Thunderbird Honor Society will be inducting their new- est members as well as wrapping up several community service projects. Don’t miss the pictures of our successful FFA week. It is just a small snapshot of the many wonderful activities our FFA program does on a regular basis. Just around the corner we will begin the spring sports schedule as well as the spring concert schedule. We will also be hosting several fundraisers for a varie- ty of groups here at the high school. There should be something for everyone to come out and enjoy over the next few months here at EGHS. Finally, we will have Spring Break during the week of March 13- 17. This will be a great time for students and teachers to get away and relax before we come back and finish up what has been a fan- tastic year here at EGHS. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at [email protected] or at 812-825-5621. Be Proud Thunderbirds! Doug Lewis, Principal From the desk of……. Recently, Mr. Atkinson's Government classes and Mrs.

Bohnert's Business Law class had the opportunity to

attend a session of the Indiana State Supreme Court

and to hear oral arguments from a current case. Over

one million court cases are filed each year in the state

of Indiana with approximately 2,000 cases continuing

to the Appellate Court and only 70-100 cases making it

to the Supreme Court. Eastern Greene students heard

the case of Gregg Appliances, Inc. and HH Gregg, Inc.

v. Dwaine Underwood. To learn more about the case

and to watch the hearing, visit https://mycourts.in.gov/

arguments. Following the hearing, the students toured

the State House and learned more about the executive,

legislative and judicial branches of our government.

The Senate chamber, the House of Representatives

chamber and the Lieutenant Governor's office were all

a part of the tour.

To cap off an enriching day, the classes visited the Indi-

ana Motor Speedway where they were able to drive on

the speedway and to visit the museum on site. The stu-

dents ended their day with the tradition of "Kissing the

Bricks" while looking toward the first turn of the track.

Thunderbird Honor Society

Initiation Season! The Thunderbird Honor Society will be having its induction ceremony on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. We will initiate three seniors, two juniors, and 23 sophomores this year! The first part of the initiation process be-gins with the ceremony on Tuesday morning during W.I.N. for the student body. There will also be a sec-ond ceremony Tuesday night at 6:30 P.M. for family members to attend. The evening ceremony will be followed by a dessert bar in the cafeteria. All family members and friends of these initiates are invited to help us celebrate their well-earned achievement!

Group Project #3

Current THS members will be completing the third group project on Saturday, March 25, 2017. We have received local requests for help, so we will be dividing into teams to accomplish as many tasks as possible that day. Sydnee Skinner, THS vice-president, is the project manager for this endeavor. A good pat on the back is in order when you see a THS member, as these students offer smiles and vol-unteer hours to meet the needs in our community.

Inga’s Popcorn Sale:

Also, our annual Inga's Popcorn Sale is right around the corner. THS members are already talking about all of the flavors: Classic Cheddar, Caramel, White Cheddar, Sweet and Cheesy, Snickerdoodle, Cheddar Jalapeno, and Caramel with Pecans. We will be selling the popcorn in April, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Student Activities Fund at EGHS. If you have purchased popcorn before, thank you! We are sure you will want more of the yummy treat. If you haven't yet tasted Inga's Popcorn, you

Elisabeth Sturgis is our Technology Integration Specialist at Eastern Greene Schools. Elisa-

beth does an amazing job helping our teachers integrate technology into the classroom, as

well as work with students on various projects throughout the school year. She has a tech

page that has a lot of supplementary web based games and programs on her site that your

student can use at home to practice by grade or by subject. She also has a fantastic site for

parents wanting to learn more about Digital Citizenship for their children and ways to talk

to them about their online behavior.

Check it out!
