THURSDAY 9 FEBRUARY 2017 PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Tena koutou katoa Academic Colours Assembly—Craighead Old Girl, Miss Emily Goodhew, was our guest speaker at the Academic Colours Assembly this week. Emily was a student at Craighead from 2004-2008. A keen, successful rower, Emily is now giving back to the sport by helping as an Assistant Coach of Craighead Rowing this season. Emily chose to study Health Sciences at Otago University, then trained to become a Denst. Since graduang, she has worked in the health system, enjoying a range of interesnglearning experiences. Highlights include being on call during busy weekends in Christchurch Hospital, doing voluntary dental work, and repairing the teeth of inmates at Rolleston high-security prison. Miss Goodhew encouraged all students to make the most of opportunies while at Craighead, such as parcipang in the Duke of Edinburghs Hillary Award scheme, going on the Spirit of Adventure and geng involved in lots of commiees. We are delighted that she was able to join our assembly and to share with us her journey of life beyond secondary school. Academic Colours were awarded to students who gained an overall Excellence Endorsement for their NCEA results, by achieving 50 credits or more at Excellence Level. In 2016, 34.6% achieved NCEA Level One endorsed with Excellence (46.2% Merit), and 29.7% gained Level Two endorsed with Excellence (40.6% Merit). Scholarship data was released today, and we are delighted to announce that eight Scholarships were aained; in Design (2), English (2), Biology (2), Art History and Graphics. Congratulaons to all those students who received Academic Colours (see photo below). Commissioning Service, Sunday 12 February, 7pm—This Sunday we are holding our Year 13 LeadersCommissioning Service, beginning with a regular Chapel service at 7pm in the Turley Auditorium. This will take approximately one hour, including the presentaon of badges. Parents are most welcome to aend, especially those with girls in Year 13, or if you need to wait around in order to transport your daughter home aſterwards. All students are expected to aend (unless represenng the school at another event) and are asked to be on site for roll check by 6.45pm please. I believe Craigheads relaonship with the Anglican Church makes it unique from other schools and this helped me decide to be confirmed last year. The strong values Craighead upholds have shaped my feelings towards how I feel about serving in and contribung to the community. I coach and umpire younger sports teams and I enjoy vising rest homes and chang to the elderly people there. I feel proud to be a Craighead girl and am honoured to represent the school as Head Girl for my final year, before connuing my educaon at university next year. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Academic Colours Assembly—Craighead Old Girl, Miss Emily Goodhew, was our guest speaker at the Academic Colours Assembly this week. Emily was a student at Craighead from 2004-2008. A keen, successful rower, Emily is now giving back to the sport by helping as an Assistant Coach of Craighead Rowing this season. Meet Annabelle Gualter—Head Girl 2017

I feel privileged to have been appointed 2017 Head Girl at such an amazing girls’ school. With my second week under way, I am excited for the year ahead which will be both challenging and rewarding. I know that with Craighead’s friendly and encouraging environment, I can lead the girls to continue to support each other so we can all be the best version of ourselves.

Craighead offers many fantastic opportunities for every student. As I have an eager attitude, I found myself participating in many groups when I began at Craighead in Year 9. In particular, I was able to pursue my passion for sport. I continue to enjoy playing Netball and Touch Rugby competitively and Tennis socially. I also enjoy taking part in a variety of the many co-curricular activities that Craighead has to offer. I have been committed to and I am currently on the Chapel and Sports Committees and a member of the Kapa Haka group. This year I have also joined the Global Citizens and Amnesty groups.

I believe Craighead’s relationship with the Anglican Church makes it unique from other schools and this helped me decide to be confirmed last year. The strong values Craighead upholds have shaped my feelings towards how I feel about serving in and contributing to the community. I coach and umpire younger sports teams and I enjoy visiting rest homes and chatting to the elderly people there. NEWS FROM THE BOARDING HOUSE

We are all looking forward to the Boarding House compulsory Weekend In. On Friday night we will all be participating in Project Runway. Saturday will be a fun day on Caroline Bay as we have hired the Fair Ground and Mini Golf, to be followed by a sand castle competition and picnic lunch. We have also booked C/Bay pool for later in the afternoon. Sunday will be filled with games and end with our Chapel Service at 7.00pm.

Boarding Parents Forum and Morning Tea: All Boarding parents and caregivers are invited along to a Boarding Forum to be held on the morning of the Athletic Sports, Friday 3 March at 10.00am in the Pavilion, Aorangi Stadium. NCEA REVIEWS AND RECONSIDERATIONS

NCEA examination booklets have been returned directly to students. If required, review and reconsideration applications and pay-ments can be made online. All details are available through the NZQA website. Candidates need to download their personalised review form through their Learner Login, complete it, then send it in with the relevant examination booklet or portfolio. Applications must be made by Friday 17

Congratulations to ex student Laura Bennett, who has been selected to compete against international designers from Canada, Spain and

the United States, at the iD International Emerging Designer Awards Show in Dunedin in March. Of the 150 designers who applied, just 36 have been selected as finalists.

Come and hear Katrina speak on sports nutrition to provide energy for life through healthy eating, focusing on athletes from both team and individual sports. All coaches, managers, athletes, parents and friends are invited and encouraged to attend.
