Movie Under The StarsAnother Great Success

Just short of 500 people gathered onFriday night for the increasinglypopular annual community event andto enjoy watching a movie in anoutdoor setting. The windy weatherheld off for the evening as peoplebrought chairs, rugs and beanbags tofind a spot and some friends on thegrass. Frozen was a delight for theyoung and old and the feedback andcomments were wonderful. The YouthAdvisory Council organised this Eventand would like to thank all its sponsors

Their thoughts are hidden, their walk is slow.

A casual glance and a smile they will give.

Other than that, you will have to forgive.

The routine is regular, they have found their way round.

Pint sized bundle of energy andglamour makes it two wins in a rowfor Western Australia.SURFERSPARADISE. Waroona based Events &Promotions ManagerKellie Germain,28,claimed the highly coveted2014Miss Hawaiian Tropic Australia/New Zealandtitle at the InternationalFinal held at LOVE Nightlife,Broadbeach on the Gold Coast onFriday night. It was the second year ina row that a WA model walked awaywith the honours following PerthmodelAshiie Munro-Smith’swin in2013. The Miss Hawaiian TropicAustralia/New Zealand Final was theculmination of an exhaustive 4 monthlong model search held in premierentertainment venues in bothcountries which saw more than 900hopeful young females enter.Following her win at the preliminarycompetition at The Clink Nightclub inFremantle, 5’4” blonde bombshellKellie joined 19 of Australia and NewZealand’s top up and comingswimwear models for a fun filled andaction packed week on the GoldCoast. This included visits to majorattractions, media events andrehearsals leading up to thespectacular AUNZ final. When it wastime to take to the catwalk, the head

turning models all had their sightsfirmly set on the prestigious nationaltitle and the massive prize packagewhich includes a trip to a prestigiousinternational pageant final later in theyear. The judging panel was led by2013 National WinnerAshiie Munro-Smith,who went on to compete at theSwimsuit USA International Finals atthe Hard Rock Hotel Casino & Resortin Puerto Vallarta last year againstmore than 80 models from all over theworld and scoring herself a top tenfinish. After watching the finalists firststrutting their stuff in the Theme Wearsection and then in the all-importantSwimwear section, the judges’ hadreached a decision; Kellie haddisplayed all the qualities they werelooking for. She embodied head-turning beauty with elegance, poise, confidence and cheeky personality. Itis a dream come true Kellie says; “I’mstill on cloud nine and I don’t want tocome down! Winning Miss HawaiianTropic has been such a long-timedream of mine” she said following hercrowning. Kellie admits to having arange of emotions wash over her “Ihaven’t stopped crying since I heardmy name being called out on stage. Ihave tried for years to get to theNational and always getting so closebut ending up adding another runner-up sash to my growing collection…”she says. “I honestly thought the oddswere stacked against me due to myage competing with girls who are 10years my juniors and due to not beingtall enough for fashion catwalk”, butluckily Miss Hawaiian Tropic doesn'thave a height requirement and Iactually think my age and experiencegave me the advantage I needed this

WAY OF LIFEIn two weeks we will

celebrate awonderful time onthe Christian

Calendar. Manysay that Easter is atime for holidays orparties, and a time

for Easter eggs and bunnies. But thereal meaning of Easter is centered onJesus Christ. It is the time when weremember His death “Christ died forour sins.” His burial, as the hymnwriter wrote “He carried my sins faraway;” and His resurrection, as theAngel said, “Why seek the livingamong the dead?” “He is not here, but is risen.” Yes, He is alive and ifwe believe this wonderful truth wecan say with the Apostle Paul, “I live, and the life which I now live in theflesh I live by the faith of the Son ofGod who loved me and gave Himselffor me.” Paul alsowrites, “Christ inyou the hope ofglory.” What aglorious hope wecan have in theLord Jesus Christ.Pastor PhillBrewster

Welcome to 2014 withthe Waroona SubCentre. I’ve been a bitslack this year and ithas taken me threemonths to get backinto the swing of

things. Waroona Sub Centre wouldlike to welcome three new PrimaryAmbulance Care (PAC) Officers. JulieCase, Tom Yeoman and Michael Riceall completed their PAC course overDecember 2013 and January 2014 ata course held in Waroona run by ourCommunity Paramedic, Ken Hart andlocal trainer Andy Templeman Twells. This intrepid trio passed with flyingcolours and lots of laughter. Sowelcome to our dedicated band ofvolunteers and wishing the three ofyou a long and happy journey in theworld of St John Ambulance. The SubCentre currently has for sale an exPatient Transfer Vehicle. The vehicleis a Mercedes 316 Sprinter van. SUB CENTRE NEWS

Despatch. I have made the decisionto resign as a Volunteer AmbulanceOfficer with St John Ambulance. Thereasons are many and varied butultimately the time has come for meto create a life away from being anambo and to dedicate myself to morerelaxing pursuits (that do not includelights, sirens and handcuffs).I will always value the time I havespent helping people and I would liketo thank those that I have come incontact with for the trust you havegiven me in helping your friends andloved ones. I am truly honoured tohave been given that trust and it willnever be forgotten. To the localconstabulary, you guys are awesome(but don’t let that go to your head).Thank you for the laughter (mostlyhysterical) but most of all thanks forhaving my back at some what I canonly call interesting jobs. Stay safeguys! Last but not least, my brothersand sisters in arms. We have hadsome interesting times but the thing Iwill always remember is thefriendship. Stay safe, stay true andstick together. My parting words ofwisdom..... Life’s short... Eat dessertfirst!!!!Judy Chalmers - Ex AAC Officer

Ambulance Officers have to fill outpatient care record forms by handwhich can be quite a mission whilstgoing on a Priority 1 (especially withsome of the drivers we have. Not meof course!). Over the last two years StJohn Ambulance has been triallingelectronic patient care records(ePCR) with Paramedics being theguinea pigs (why not? They get paidfor it). ePCRs will now be rolled out oniPads to the Waroona Sub Centre inMay/June so if you see our amboswalking around with iPads, No theyaren’t on Facebook or playing CandyCrush! This will make our job so mucheasier and quicker with less timespent away from our patients.**THANK YOU** - For our patient carerecords to go electronic the sub centrehas had to purchase six new iPadsand covers. We would like to sincerelythank CARNA EARTHMOVING,QUAMBIE PARK and GLOBALIMPACT for helping us to purchasethese vital pieces of equipment for ourambos.**EASTER** - As Easter approachesus please be mindful on the roads.Easter is our busiest part of the year. Please pay attention, don’t speedand don’t drink drive. Let our ambosand other emergency service workershave a peaceful time over the Easterperiod.**JUDE’S NEWS** - Sadly this will bemy last article for the Drakesbrook

ANOTHER BIG THANK YOU

To all the Fire Brigades, waterbombers, friends and neighbours whogave so much to control the fire onour property, the first and the secondand the third time. Our most sincere thanks,Val and John Salerian

Most of thesenovels centre on an ex-policemannow lawyer Stone Barrington; telltales of intrigue, espionage, worlddomination and murder, with plotseither so simplistic that the reader canbegin with the first couple of chaptersand jump to the last and not havemissed anything, or so complicatedthat the reader has to make a tree ofcharacters and list them dead, missing, injured, kidnapped, evil, goodjust so that they can keep up with thetale and action. On Sunday the 9 March 2014, theQuambie Park Waroona Inc. Board ofGovernance formally dedicated thePam Corker House Board Room asthe “Margaret McKay Board Room”.InOctober 2013 Margaret resigned herposition as a Board Director from theQuambie Park Board of Governanceafter 25 years of dedicated service. The Board and Members did not wantto let Margaret’s long standingcontribution to go unrecognised, sothey decided to dedicate the PamCorker House Board Room inMargaret’s honour as a fittingacknowledgement.During Margaret’stime on the Board, she has been akey driver and decision maker in theongoing growth and expansion of oursuccessful organisation and itscontinued community connectionsand caring reputation. Margaret wasvery humble in her acceptance of thededication and states that she willalways “hold Quambie Park very dearto her heart” and continue to supportthe organisation in a less formalmanner. A small plaque has beenplaced outside the Board Room as areminder and acknowledgment

Quambie Park – honours a longstanding Board Member

Quambie Park would like to thank allthe volunteers and communitymembers that donated goods, supplies and their time at the PamCorker Fete held on the 22 March2014. Despite a strong easterly wind,it was wonderful to see the localcommunity come out to support ourannual Fete. Everyone enjoyed theday and seemed to find goodies andtreasures to purchase.  As a not forprofit community lead organisation wedepend on the continued good willand support of the local communityand again we were not disappointedby the community’s ongoinggenerosity. At this year’s Fete , thelocal St Johns Ambulance crew wereable to join in our celebrations, andprovided an ideal opportunity for Fetegoers to see what the ambulanceservices has to offer and provides thecommunity , we thank them for theirtime at the Fete and their ongoingsupport throughout the year. TheFete also received a visit fromWaroona’s own Kellie Germaincrowned “2014 Miss Hawaiian TropicAustralia/NewZealand” pictured withthe St Johns AmbulanceVolunteers. The funds raised from thisyear’s Fete will assist Quambie Parkto ensure that residents and clientshave access to quality equipment andservices provided by competent andtrained staff. The response to our first ever smalllandholder column has beenoverwhelming! It has been wonderfulto hear about so many small propertyowners wanting to learn more aboutmanaging their land and creating amore live able environment. This month, as we wait for the rains tocome, one of the most importantthings to monitor is your watersupplies. As water levels start todecrease, algae can begin to build upin your dams and tanks. The bestoptions to control or prevent algaebuild-up are to stop stock access toyour household water supply, coveryour tanks, shade your dam (althoughbe careful which tree species youplant), sink bales of hay in your damto provide a carbon source for otherbacteria to strip the nitrogen andphosphorus out of the water and builda sediment trap in front of your dam toprevent nutrients from entering on

great time to service your farmequipment and prevent costlybreakdowns during peak workperiods. Check all moving parts forseizing, check fluid levels, hoses, tyres etc. Dealing with these issuesbefore they become problems willkeep you one step ahead and yourproperty in great shape! You can findmore information on our events, seasonal calendar and a range ofNoteworthys on the Small LandholderInformation Service websiteagric.wa.gov.au/small_landholder.You can also sign up to our free e-newsletter by registering your interestat[email protected]or by phoning 9733 7777.

faeces and debris. As well askeeping your dams clear, you shouldalso make sure your paddocks arefree from any rubbish. Animals willsometimes consume rubbish either byaccident or actively seek it out due tonutrient deficiency. If you haverubbish in your paddocks, fence it offor remove it. If any of your animalsare actively seeking it out, contactyour vet for advice. The extended drysummer is making summer weedcontrol extremely difficult with almostno soil moisture, leaving summerweeds under significant moisturestress.Control of dock plants is bestundertaken in autumn as rosettesappear, before desirable pasturespecies germinate. CHOOKS, CHOOKS & MORE CHOOKSLast Saturday Waroona Poultry Clubconducted a silent auction and bid onthree pens. Was lucky enough to

successfully bid for a D’Uccle/ Wyndotte Cross and havenicknamed her Penny. She has already started eggproduction whilst being chased by other chooks andsettling into her new home. The auction was well attendedand the last 15 minutes was frantic to say the least.Nolonger selling eggs at the Subiaco Growers Market andtook some show winning eggs to my centurion old mate“Bert Spooner” who celebrated his 100th Birthday onWednesday 26th March. Pleased to report egg productionalong with the size of the eggs has increased with thepassing of moulting season and cooler weather.Neighbours have reported seeing three foxes in paddocksover the past month and even when I return home late fromthe Football Club diligently conduct a night security checkin an endeavour to protect the safety of my pets.Recreation Road users may think I am a wild bird breederwith Ibis and Pink Galahs haunting the chookyard chasingeasy poultry feed supplies. Wish they would migrate to thenearby Drakesbrook Weir with lots of water and a beautifulenvironment. I attended my second funeral service thererecently and Waroona is lucky to have such a facility to saygoodbye. Sincere sympathy to Joan, Larry, Jeff, Paula andfamilies on the passing of Bert. Now that local footballseason is about to commence my wife Maryann willcontinue to roundup up the chooks at night time as they stillenjoy two to three hours per day free range as part of theirdaily activity. All that is left now is for my friend Robert totackle building the Chookshed ready for winter and greaterprotection for the chooks. -Ken

Most of you will already know me as thelocal vet nurse with a passion in poultrybreeding and showing, I started breedingpoultry when I was just 10yrs old and my daughter at age6yrs is quickly following in my footsteps. She proudly takesher best Hens to the local country shows. The topic thismonth isMoulting: Feathers are moulted and replacedannually, normally after the breeding season, it requires a lotof energy to grow and replace feathers, so often hens inmoult will appear pale and often stop laying. The processtakes between 3-6 weeks, each new feather pushes the oldone out of the follicle, this may happen over the entire bodyall at once which leaves the hen looking like a hedgehog andvery uncomfortable. It is a well-known fact that a good layerwill moult quickly and recover very quickly compared to apoor or old layer that will moult slowly over a long time a fewfeathers at a time. Feathers are made of protein. The featherreplenishment takes a lot out of the bird nutritionally, soalthough they may slow or stop laying it is not the time todecide to buy cheap feed. To help your birds get through thisnutritionally draining time many breeders will have theirspecial additives they give, basically your hen needs a goodbalanced ration with a little extra protein over this month, common extra additives breeders give are a handful ofsunflower seeds each day or a handful of quality dry cat foodevery second day (Do not give raw meat, dog biscuits haveto much cereal in them and much of there protein is derivedfrom grains to be of any benefit to your chook unless you arefeeding a true premium dog food) or Cooked scrambled/mashed eggs or Sprouting grains especially alfalfa andsesame seeds (see my website on how to sprout gains foryour birds)or mealworms or earthworms Moulting food soldat pet shops for caged song bids (but is expensive ).- Kellie

Spoiling our fun and gamesUsually this column covers pests thataffect our farms, gardens and naturalhabitats. But this month it is the turnof an insect and a weed which bothhave the capacity to ruin therecreational activities that WestAustralians hold dear. Not welcome at homeMaking a list of typical barbecuegoodies is like preparing a gourmetmenu for the European wasp(Vespula germanica). Soft drinks andbeer, meat and meat products suchas sausages and also cakes or othersweet treats are all favourite fare forthis aggressive stinger. Given thatmany barbecues are social gatheringsEuropean wasps in the backyardwould be most unwelcome. Thechance of someone drinking from acan and getting stung on or in themouth is very real, and for people withallergic reactions the result could belife-threatening.Keep them at bayFortunately European wasps are notestablished in Western Australiaalthough many individual queensarrive in the state annually, usuallyafter crawling into road freight thatoriginates in eastern Australia.Officers from the Department ofAgriculture and Food (DAFWA)destroy many nests every year. At thetime of writing, this summer DAFWAhas destroyed 20 nests but thatnumber will certainly rise in the nearfuture. Often DAFWA hears aboutthem thanks to people who have

water, causing all aquatic life to die. Itis illegal to sell salvinia and it is alsoillegal to own it. But realistically it hasto be acknowledged that there mustbe many gardens in Western Australiawhich have this weed choking theirponds. The crucial thing is to stopsalvinia escaping from the backyardsthat still harbour it. Anyone owningsalvinia should never dispose ofunwanted clumps by dumping them inpublic lakes, rivers or other natural ormanmade water courses.Occasionally salvinia may beavailable at events where people sellhome-grown plants, such as fetes,swap-meets, weekend markets andthe like. Salvinia also turns up oninternet trading sites. Please reportany such instances to PaDIS.Currently the two large salviniainfestations in the Perth metropolitanarea are in Myaree and HighWycombe. Local councils are workingon eradicating the weed.If you have a query or want to reportsomething unfamiliar, ring the Pestand Disease Information Service(PaDIS) on Freecall 1800 084 881 oremail[email protected]

recognised the insects as Europeanwasps and reported them to the Pestand Disease Information Service(PaDIS). Members of the public cantake part in DAFWA’s ‘Adopt-a-trap’program. Ring PaDIS on Freecall1800 084 881 or email[email protected] to request asurveillance trap. Be suspicious ofany wasps that are attracted tobarbecues or pet food bowls, andlearn how to identify this species.Similarities and differencesSuperficially European waspsresemble the now established paperwasps in that both have bodies withblack and yellow stripes. Paper waspshave orange brown antennaewhereas those of European wasp areblack, but of course the antennae canonly be observed at close range. However, the easiest way to tell thespecies apart can be done at a safedistance. Take note of the flightpatterns. Paper wasps fly and hoverquite weakly with their legs dangling, but European wasps fly swiftly withdarting movements and they tucktheir legs up beneath them rather likea bee.Grounded by a water weedThe floating weed salvinia (Salviniamolesta) can grow so thickly onwaterways that leisure activities suchas boating, swimming and fishingbecome impossible. In any caseanglers would find nothing worthfishing for, even if they could accessthe water, because salvinia preventssunlight and oxygen from entering the

Domestic Stamps Prices…now on the up…Officially!Stamps for a standard domestic (within Australia) letter rise from 60c to 70c as from March 31st, 2014.For those of you who still have a stock of 60c stamps we will have 10c stamps available to go withthem. A large letter increases from $1.20 to $1.40 etc. We appreciate your patience with thechangeover.Australia Post Concession Account(MyPost)There is some relief from this stamp price increase & others! If you hold a valid & current federalgovernment concession card you will be eligible to apply to purchase concession stamps at a reducedprice. As with all government processes there is a bit of procedure to adhere to first…and yes it doesinvolve a form! However once you have applied for a ‘Mypost’ account you will receive a free bookletof 5 concession stamps, the ability to purchase up to 50 concession stamps per year, concession rateson Mail on Hold and Mail Redirection services. There are information brochures available at the postoffice, and application forms. Pick one up from here to check it out or see the Australia post website tosee if your eligible.Banking Deposits for Commonwealth Customers?Just a reminder , if you are wanting to make a deposit into a commonwealth account that is not yourown, we require you to use the account card, or passbook to make the entry. As an agency we areunable to deposit funds from you into someone else’s account using paper deposit slips. That can stillbe done however at a Commonwealth bank, the closest being at Harvey.Postage on Postards increasedWith recent postal prices changes earlier this year, we wanted to highlight that cheaper postage forpostcards is no longer the case. Postage is now the same as a standard letter.Let us help you…With the cost of postage increasing, customers should know that post office staff are happy to help youfind the cheapest method of posting. Just ask at the counter for some help, explain to us what ourtrying to do…and we’ll do our best to get the best postage price for you!Cheers from the Team at the Post Office

Yellow “I need space” leashes are now availablefrom us. For more information on the Yellow

Dog project come in for some FREEinformation or visit

http://www.yellowdog-australia.k9events.com/

The Yellow Dog Project :–Don’t say hello to a dog wearing

Yellow! The Yellow Dog Project is aworldwide campaign to make peopleaware that not all dogs like to meetand greet. This could be because thedog:Is in trainingIs nervous or shy with other

people or dogsIs deafMay be from a rescue group and

is being rehabilitatedMay be injuredIs recovering from surgeryIs old and tiredHas just been adoptedGets too excited or grumpy

When a dog is wearing yellow itidentifies that dog as needing space.Yellow dogs are dogs that need a bitmore room than the average dog.Why is this a good idea?We all like to have our personal spacerespected and so should our dogs.We wouldn’t like random peoplerushing up to say hi or hugging us nordo our dogs.

If you see a dog with somethingyellow on their leash, this is a dog thatneeds some space. Please do notapproach this dog with your dog. Please maintain distance and givethis dog and their owner time to moveout of your way. I assure you thosepeople who own these kinds of dogsappreciate your help and respect. Please note: This is NOT suitablefor dogs with a bite history. If your dog has behaviour oraggression problems we recommendthat you should contact a qualifiedethical force free Dog Trainer or yourVeterinarian for assessment and ifappropriate referral to a VeterinaryBehaviourist. For more information please visit theyellow dog project pages in Australiaathttp://www.yellowdog-australia.k9events.com/ orhttps://www.facebook.com/YellowdogAustralia. Some of thisinformation has been sourced directlyfrom the yellow dog websites; pleasevisit them for more information.Remember:Don’t say hello to a dog wearingYellow!Frosina Duckin RVN

It also means that your dog is lesslikely to have a bad experience withanother dog if you know they ‘don’twant to play.”If we can make the community awarethat these dogs just need some spacewe can all get along better. Apart fromnot saying hello to a dog in yellow weshould also ensure we fully complywith local leash laws. Unless it is adesignated dog off lead area keepyour dog on lead! It is incrediblystressful for a dog on lead to berushed at by a loose dog. What do I have to do?If you think your dog needs somespace put something yellow on yourdog when you both go out. There areleads and collars you can buy that arespecifically branded saying “I needspace”. There are also doggybandannas and vests to make it reallyobvious from afar that this is a dogthat needs space. You can also tie ayellow ribbon to your dog’s leadhowever it may not be very obviousfrom far away. We don’t recommendusing yellow dog poo/waste bags asmany people tie them to their leadwithout having a “yellow dog”.

The Parker family farmwas originally the site of the Number11 Mill (or Eleven Mile Mill) operatingalong the Drakes Brook in the hills ofWaroona. The mill had a number ofhouses, including a boarding houseand a school at one stage. The millsuffered its fate in a fire in 1908 and in1912 the site was purchased bybrothers Fred and Tom Parker, withone of the remaining houses becomingthe Parker homestead.

The Parker family grew grain, vegetables and fruit and the producewas marketed in Waroona, NangaBrook and sent via train to themetropolitan area. Fred Parker’schildren, Charles and Elizabeth had a5 mile (8km) walk each way from theirfarm to the Waratah School each day, later transferring to The Upper MurraySchool and then the Sliprails School. Many of you may not realise it, but thebuilding opposite the WaroonaBowling Club on Parnell Street startedlife as the fruit packing shed at theParker Farm. It was purchased in1952 by the members of the MasonicLodge for use as their meeting venue, having previously used the MemorialHall. The packing shed wastransported down from the hills on ajinker, members having to fell treesalong the track to allow its passage. The land it resides on today wasdonated by the NcNeill brothers andthe building and extensions wereconsecrated in December 1952 anddedicated by the then Grand Master,James Sykes Battye. By 1966 the

with 324 league games and he will bea playing coach similar to RockyCaruso last year.Coach Hysen has appointed UtilityPlayer Kurt Brown as Captain andformer Defender Lindsay Wilson asVice Captain after returning from ashoulder injury from last season. Bothwere elevated to the LeadershipTeam after training the house downpre season. Lindsay is likely to beplaced in the middle of the ground togive further grunt to Rocky Caruso,Grant Coxon and Zac Indich togetherwith Jackson Hiscock and MattMortimer when they are availablefrom their North West employment.Daniel Johnson is the local choice forthe difficult Centre Half Forwardposition.Veteran Troy Purser and Ben Howelllead the defence and Aayden Crookswill lead the ruck supported by DeanShore who has returned after aseason at Harvey Brunswick-Leschenault. The reserves are primedto make their presence felt in thefinals after a disappointing exit fromthe finals race after being positionedin the top two all season before thelast qualifying game.Playing League Coach Dean Taylor isin his second term together with hisinvaluable assistant John Mason.Taylor has played in seven winninggrand finals and knows the hard workit takes to win an elusive premiership. The League Squad were presentedwith their guernsey’s at thepresentation night on Thursday by lifemembers Peter Ward and ScottFaulkner. Talented and skilful playerBen Wright has been named Captainfor the second year and supported bythe Leadership Team of Mat Thomas,Steele Court and Adam Clancy.Loud cheers were received whenAlfred Angi, and Harry Ellis werepresented with their LeagueGuernseys to recognise their efforts

from pre season. Players returningfrom serious injury were TommyCarroll and Justin Giumelli and theywill add further zip around the ground.Quentin Bolton a premiership playerin 2012 returns from Narrogin Hawksalong with his nephew Isiah Jetta-Bolton who is likely to line up in aback pocket. Key Defender AaidenFotheringham (Archie) has beencleared from Kulin in the EasternDistricts Football League and formerpremiership wingman Ben Mathews-Herald has returned from a year inWhitfords in the WA Amateur FootballLeague. Two other key utility players who havetrimmed down in the offseason areMatt Atcheson and Aaron Payrits andthey are looking like a million dollarsand could be classified as newrecruits. Last years Fairest and Best,Courtney Lakay and runnerup RhettMason will again be crucial with theirball skills and bring others into thegame. Coaches Taylor and Masonknow how important it is to win earlygames to earn a double chance in thefinals for players to remain fresh.Centrals from Mundijong have beenon a recruiting drive after an early exitin season 2013 in the finals race butWaroona continue to be thebenchmark.Club officials in the off seasoncontinue to spend many hours ofvoluntary service and a new barfacility has been built and enlarged bytalented members. The naturalwooden timber top of Jarrah andBlack butt courtesy of Life MemberSteve brown is simply outstanding.President Deb Clancy thankedeveryone for their input into the offseason at the Jumper Presentation onThursday 27th March and WaroonaFootball Club operations is bearingfruit.New Members ,supporters and loyallocal sponsors are welcome to attendthe first home game on Saturday 5th

Well the cricket season has come toan end and the Waroona Warriors BGrade is in the grand final for thesecond year in a row. With a chanceto make it two in a row, Captain NicRep has moulded this team perfectlyand on the back of his personalefforts, is a huge chance for victory.Waroona Warriors E Grade wasunable to push for finals butnevertheless still had a reasonableseason. With a blend of young andold players, the E grade had a crackin every game, but struggled in thebatting. The team was well led by

president Daniel Dodds. Thepresentation night was held after thelast home and away game andeveryone enjoyed the vast selectionof food supplied by the players andnumerous awards were handed out.B Grade:Batting Av: Nic RepBatting Agg: Nic RepBowling Av: Adam ClanceyBowling Agg: Adam ClanceyCricketer of the year: Nic RepE Grade:Batting Av: Daniel DoddsBatting Agg: Daniel Dodds Bowling Av: Mark ButlerBowling Agg: Mark ButlerCricketer of the year: Daniel DoddsClub Person: Bronwyn DoddsKyle Jones Award: Jeff EastcottJunior Cricketer: Jarrod DoddsCongratulations to Nic Rep andDaniel Dodds who both took out thecricketer of the year and battingawards in their grades for the whole ofthe Peel Cricket Association. Waroona Bowling Club NewsFirstly my apologiesto Bob Clark formissing out theresults of the Men’sSinglesChampionship in the

last edition. Last year Bob surprisedeveryone by going down to the wire inthe final against Dom Ferraro. He leadby a huge margin, but allowed nervesto get to him and could not close outthe game. This year he must havelearnt from his mistake and so it wasno surprise to see him once again inthe final. He was playing against ourPresident, Mark Hiller, who lead fromthe start and built up a sizeable lead.Bob, however, stayed calm and slowlyclosed the gap and overtook Mark’sscore. Once the pressure was on, itwas Mark’s turn to be nervous and hisnormally sound game deteriorated.Bob was the eventual winner in agame that was as good as it gets.Well played, Bob!

AGMWed. May 21st

The Murray League Championshipsare now underway for both the Menand the Ladies. We are representedin all areas and hopefully will havesome results for you in the next issue. The Men recently had an OpenTriples competition and have an OpenFours on Friday April 4th.Our annualAnzac Day bowls event is coming upsoon, so make sure you nominate foreither the Club or the RSL.Two datesto put in your diaries are the ClubClosing Day on Saturday, 10th Maystarting at1.30pm. This will befollowed by the Presentation ofTrophies and a Sponsors Dinner.Details of the cost are not available tome at present, so keep checking theClub notice board for details. Theother date top remember is for theAGM on Wednesday May 21st,starting at 7pm. Nomination sheetswill be on the notice boards soon, so ifyou are interested in being moreinvolved with your Club, check it out.

Several Men and Ladies went away tothe Country Week Championships inPerth recently. I believe there weresome good results and may besomeone can write about them for thenext issue. One guy, however, justfound the whole experience too much.

Pennant Results. The Ladies Pennant side had anextremely good year this year. Havingbeen promoted into 2nd Division, theywere expecting to have some veryhard games. However, they exceededall expectations and finished insecond position after the final round. This year the Ladies had a finalsplayoff for the Pennant, butunfortunately they lost both theirgames, but well done Ladies. TheMen had a topsy turvey season fortheir Saturday games, but finished upin 4th place after the final round. In theplayoffs they won their first two

games, but were beaten once againby Yunderup in the Grand Final.Tuesday pennants was a differentstory, losing only 3 games for thewhole competition. Two of thoselosses were to Port Bouvard, but theystill managed to stay in the topposition ahead of Port Bouvard. Thismeans they will be promoted to thirdDivision next season. In the play offsfor the Pennant, they were able tohold out to Port Bouvard in the majorsemi and then come from behind todefeat Meadow Springs in the GrandFinal. Well done guys!!!!!
