From the Agent

It’s truly amazing how time flies. Hard to believe we are already heading into November. Before we get into all the exciting things November has to offer, let’s not forget to thank everyone who made October so special.

Thanks to everyone who organized and participated in Extension Homemaker’s Week. Thanks to Debra Caldwell and her committee for planning a fun week! Thanks to all the vendors and volunteers who participated in the Holiday Craft Bazaar.

Please remember to get your dues to Geraldine by November 20th. This is crunch time to recruit new members to join KEHA. Invite a friend, neighbor, or family member to join. Give a membership as a gift.

You can increase membership in this county, I know you can. Keep up the good work.

Please make all efforts to attend the Living Well seminar on November 10th. Registration must be in by November 3rd. This seminar will count as the November Leader Lesson so representation from each club is strongly encouraged. Call 236-4484 for a registration form.

Homemaker Reports 76’ers

The 76ers met on Monday evening, October 9th at the Extension office. We welcomed 3 guests: Rick Slaughter, Cecelia Teater and Ramona Walker.

Emily Greene was hostess and lesson leader. Emily did a great job with the lesson, Vegetable 101. The snack Emily prepared was delicious and went will with the lesson. Emily also auctioned off the goodie bags of the evening. If Emily ever needs a new job, she should look into being and auctioneer! Thank you Emily for all you did to make our October meeting great.

We also want to thank Serita Phelps for stepping up to be secretary of the club, and along with Lydia Thornton to keep our scrapbook. Thanks to Lydia.

We know that these 2 young ladies will do a great job! After our business portion, and lesson, the meeting was adjourned.

One last thank you to the members who brought appetizers for the Tasting Party on Tuesday evening. Though the weather was not great, everyone who came to the Tasting Party had a wonderful time. A “Tip of the Hat” to Debra Caldwell the chairperson of the Tasting Party Committee and to Pam Ratliff for the Fall decorations.

Game night will be on Friday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m.. This month’s games will be card games. So if you have a card game you want to play or share, please come out and join us. Bring a friend, and your own drink. A light meal will be provided. This is your chance to have fun and meet other homemakers.

Management and Safety The Scout motto is “be prepared”. This is good advice in today’s world. Be aware of your surroundings. This can prepare you for natural disasters as well as terrorist attacks. Know where exits are when you go into a building. Look for the easiest route to leave in an emergency. No what to do if you cannot leave a building. How do I help myself survive a disaster. At home have a safe place. Keep your safe place stocked with emergency items like: blankets, radio, flashlights, food and water.

Check out your credit accounts to see that no one is overusing them. Don’t give out any of your account numbers or social security number. Be aware, check on your accounts periodically.

We may not be able to prevent a disaster but we can be better prepared if one happens to us.

Junction City

The Junction City Homemakers are looking forward to a great new year. Last season we were saddened by the death of one of our dear members, Emma Miller, and also by serious illnesses and accidents faced by some others in our club. This year we are ready to begin an active and productive year. We would like to welcome our new member, Helen Greene, and look forward to working with her.

In gathering informaion for our poster for Homemaker Week, we discovered that the Junction City club was started in 1922 and is one of the two oldest clubs in the state.

As in the past, we will continue to volunteer at EMRMC making pillows for surgery patients, knitting caps for the nursery, and sewing walker bags. We will also contribute to the back pack proram which provides food for students who may not

otherwise have food on the weekend and sponsor a needy family or individual at Christmas. Several of our members enjoyed helping at the 4H yard sale and fabric sale. Our next meeting will be on November 7 at the Grace Café. We hope every club has a wonderful 2017-2-18 year.

Lancaster Road

The Lancaster Road Homemaker's club met at 10:30 on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. We had 15 members in attendance for the meeting held at the

Boyle Co. Extension office. Marlyn Holderman gave an informative lesson based on the Vegetarian

101 materials she received at the leader lesson. She also shared several Vegetarian cookbooks.

Several ideas were shared concerning crafts that could be taught to the community. A committee is being formed to aid in the planning of craft activities. Several members offered suggestions, as well as, time and talents during the ensuing discussion. The ideas were met with enthusiasm.

Our next meeting will be held at the Extension office on Nov 1. We look forward to the fellowship!

Wilderness Trail

Wilderness Trail held its October meeting on Thursday, October 5, at the Extension office. In the absence of President Virginia Saylor (who had just undergone knee surgery), Vice-President Clara Bowen presided over the meeting. We welcomed three new members—Charlotte Hammond, Sue King, and Carol Robbins. We reviewed plans for Homemakers Week activities. After the meeting, hostesses Roberta Trayner and Emma Tucker served lunch. Three Wilderness Trail members attended the County Tasting Party and Silent Auction. Our November meeting will take place at McDowell Place on Thursday, November 2. Submitted by Rita Bloom.

Dear County Homemakers I hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed Homemakers Week. I would like to thank everyone for all your help and support during this month long event. A special thanks to the Homemaker Week Committee: Denise Parr, Geraldine Dietrich; Marilyn Houchin and Joyce Zinner. Also to Pam Ratliff for all her hard work and beautiful decorations for the Tasting Party and to Joyce Zinner for helping her.

Hope everyone go up to the library to see our great display. Everyond did a wonderful job on their posters and invitations. I’m so thankful to know all you talented ladies.

Thank you to Thelm Mills, Ce Newton, Alethea Price for helping me put up the display at the library. Special thanks to Donna Dugger for dressing our mannequin.

Again, thanks to everyone for a great Homemakers Week. Homemaker Chairperson, Debra Caldwell

2017-2018 Leader Lessons Leader lessons are not just for club leaders. All Homemakers and the public (bring a friend) are invited to each month’s lesson regardless if you are that month’s leader or not. Please let us know if you plan to attend each month so that we can ensure that you have a packet. This year’s schedule is listed below.
