FIRST WINTER BLAST OF THE SEASON A potentially historic winter storm will slam the north-central United
States over the next few days with up to two feet of snow pos-sible in some areas. The system will produce severe storms and heavy rain today in the southern Plains and critical-to-extreme fire weather threats from the central and southern Rockies to California. The storm will have two parts, the first of which is targeting the northern and central Rockies and High Plains on Wednesday into Thursday. The second part will bring snow to the eastern and central portions of the Dakotas and western Minnesota by week's end. Freeze warnings continue for the High Plains Radio listening area tonight through tomorrow af-ternoon. Overnight low temps are expected to drop in the lower 20s.
MCCOOK MAN KILLED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT Authorities say a man was killed when his car crashed into an incoming semitrailer in southern Nebraska’s Frontier County. The collision occurred a little after 2:30 p.m. Monday, about 3 miles northwest of Maywood on U.S. Highway 83. The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that the car was headed south when it crossed the center line to pass another vehicle but collided with the northbound truck. The car driver was identified as 28-year-old Keith Padilla, who lived in McCook. The unidentified truck driver was taken to Community Hospital in McCook for treatment of minor injuries. The collision is being investigated.
