adequate words to express our appreciation to you, our Federated Family, for your many

heartfelt gestures, cards, and gifts. Each one of you is such a blessing in our lives.

* Call to Worship Timothy M. Slemmons One: There is one God, the Creator of all, All: in whom we live and move and have our being. One: There is one Lord, Jesus Christ, All: for whom and through whom all things were made. One: All who love God are known by God, All: whose Spirit is upon and within the people of God. One: Let us worship God!

* Opening Hymn No. 482 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty Hailey Marker, Acolyte

Unison Prayer of Confession & Reconciliation Saving Lord, your holy word shows us who we truly are, as in a mirror. We confess our sins: all our failings, though we try to hide them. Help us trust you with them; do away with them as you see fit. Help us trust you with our selves that you will draw us out of our hiding places and reveal the hope and glory which you have placed within us, even as we step into the transforming light of your amazing love; in Jesus’ name we pray.

Lord, Have Mercy (Sing the Faith Songbook #2277) Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy on us.

Though red like crimson is my sin, greater yet is forgiveness found in Christ. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy on us.

Declaration of God’s Forgiveness One: Amen. The Lord is gracious and merciful, providing Christ, the bread of life, the true vine, All: as food and drink for those who fear God and confess their need for salvation. One: I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, All: we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen.

Choral Anthem We Believe Arr. Sorenson Bob Arp, director

Gospel According to Mark 1 : 21 - 28 (pew Bible New Testament page 35)

Sermon On the Spiritual in Life & Art Edward Yang, Associate Pastor * Affirmation of Faith—From South Africa Iona Abbey Worship Book

One: It is not true that we must accept inhumanity and discrimination, hunger and poverty, death and destruction; All: This is true: Christ has come that we may have life, and have it abundantly. One: It is not true that violence and hatred shall have the last word, and that war and destruction have come to stay forever; All: This is true: for to us a child is born, to us a son is given, in whom authority will rest, and whose name will be Prince of Peace. One: It is not true that we are simply victims of the powers of evil that seek to rule the world; All: This is true: To Christ is given authority in heaven and on earth, and he is with us always. One: It is not true that we have to wait for those who are specially gifted, who are the prophets of the church, before we can do anything; All: This is true: God will pour out the Spirit on all people; sons and daughters shall prophesy, young people shall see visions, and old folk dream dreams. One: It is not true that our dreams of liberation of humankind, our dreams of justice, of human dignity, of peace, are not meant for this earth and its history; All: This is true: The hour comes, and it is now, that true worshippers shall worship God in Spirit and in truth.

* Responsive Hymn (insert) Christ, In Capernaum Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Annika Lister Stroope, Senior Pastor (Sun.) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
