DEFINITIONS AND CONVERSION TABLE

Below is a list of the definitions and assumptions, which apply in this Stability Booklet. The following definitions and assumptions apply:

Units

The metric system is used.

Draught

The draught T use in the hydrostatic table of maximum

permissible KG is measured from the base line at LPP/2,

i.e.amidship.

Base line

The base line of the ship is the upper side of the keel

plate.

Disp

Tabulated displacements are measured on the outside of

the shell plating.

FP

Forward perpendicular located Fr 88 + 0.051Ap Aft perpendicular located Fr 0 Lpp

Length between perpendiculars, i.e. FP - AP.

KMT

Is the transverse metacentric height at zero heel angle.

MT is measured from the base line.

LCB

Is the longitudinal position of the centre of the

buoyancy. LCB is measured from Ap.

LCF

Is the longitudinal position of the centre of

flotation. LCF is measuured from AP.

TPC

Is the immersion weight, i.e.the weight which when added

or subtracted will change the draught by one centimetre.

MCT

Is the longtidinal moment required to change

the trim one centimetre.

T

Is the moulded draught amidships, i.e. measured

from the upper side of the keel plate at Lpp/2.

TA

Is the moulded draught measured on AP.TF

Is the moulded draught measured on FP.

TRIM

TRIM = TF-TATRIM is negative when TA is larger than TF, i.e. the ship has an aft trim.

TRIM is positive when TF is larger than TA i.e. the
