The Thymus Gland• The Thymus Gland:
• a small organ behind the breastbone
• plays an important function in the immune system
• begins to atrophy (decay) during puberty
• it trains the T lymphocytes to fight infections and even cancer
The Thymus Gland• Thymosin is the hormone of the thymus gland
• stimulates the production of disease-fighting T cells
• T cells are a specific type of white blood cell that protects the body from certain threats, including viruses and infections
• As we age, our immune system function decreases
The Thymus Gland
• In 1964, Professor Allan Goldstein discovered the thymosins in his lab at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York
• Thymosins are a family of hormone-like molecules that have powerful effects on the human immune system
• Dr. Goldstein has published over 430 articles and papers to date about the thymosins and the immune system, and collaborates with scientists around the world.
Thymosin Alpha-1• In April 1974, a five-year-old critically ill girl named
Heather became the first person to receive thymosin from calf thymus, which successfully increased her T-cell numbers, improved her immunity and saved her life.
• Dr. Goldstein proved that the thymus gland is the master gland of the immune system
• Dr. Goldstein helped to produce of two types of thymosins in the lab: thymosin alpha 1- which bolsters immune cell activity and thymosin beta 4- which promotes wound repair and healing
Thymosin Alpha-1• Zadaxin® is the brand name of the commercially
available Thymosin Alpha-1 peptide created in China by Sciclone Pharmaceuticals in 1996
• Available in over 30 countries

• for treatment of viruses such as HIV, Hep B, Hep C, Flu Virus, cancer & to strengthen the immune system
Thymosin Alpha-1
