Table 3 Syntax Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

[ ] An optional item in a command or code syntax.

For example:

MyCommand [optional_parameter] required_parameter

| A logical OR that separates multiple items of which only one may be chosen.

For example, you can select only one of the following parameters:

MyCommand param1 | param2 | param3

{ } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group.

For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4.

MyCommand {param1 param2} | {param3 param4}

In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4:

MyCommand {param1 | param2} {param3 | param4}

In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4.

MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 | param4}

4 | Chapter 1 Installation Introduction

Installation Environment

TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access products in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments.

An installation environment consists of the following properties:

• Name (ENV_NAME) Identifies the installation environment. The name cannot contain special characters such as "*", "?", ">", "<", ":", "|", "/", "\", or quotation marks(").

On Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer and is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu. The default value is TIBCO_HOME.

• Directory (TIBCO_HOME) Identifies the folder into which the product is installed. The path cannot contain special characters such as "*", "#", "?", ">", "<", "%", "&", "$", "`", or "|".

The installer installs any products installed to the default installation environment directly under the Windows Start > All Programs > TIBCO menu. For all other environments, the installer creates a shortcut under the Windows Start > All Programs > TIBCO > ENV_NAME menu.

System Requirements | 9

System Requirements

Before installing the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for SAP, ensure that you meet all the following system requirements:

• Disk Space, page 9

• System Memory, page 9

• Supported Platforms, page 9

• Required Software, page 10

Disk SpaceThe required disk space depends on the platform you use and the software components you select to install. The installer calculates the required disk space in TIBCO_HOME for the selected components. The calculation is done before the actual installation, that is, copying of files to system, begins. The installer proceeds only if sufficient free disk space is available. The disk space consumed by TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for SAP depends on platforms:

• For Windows platforms, the adapter can consume up to 250 MB of free space under TIBCO_HOME.

• For UNIX platforms, the adapter can consume up to 550 MB of free space under TIBCO_HOME.

System MemoryThe runtime adapter is Java-based and the memory requirements are based on the amount of memory made available to the Java Virtual Machine. When running the adapter on a machine, you need to consider the following factors:

• For 32-bit platforms containing 4 GB of physical memory, the Maximum Heap Space is 1024 MB or 1 GB.

• For 64-bit platforms containing 192 GB of physical memory, the Maximum Heap Space is 32 GB.

Supported PlatformsSee the readme file for the supported platforms, versions, and required patches.

26 | Chapter 4 Postinstallation Tasks

Specifying the Port Number for SAP Connectivity

You need to specify the port number for the following services used:

• SAP Gateway Service Always required in the case of server connections.

• SAP Message Service Required when you use a client connection and the connection is using Logon Groups.

Unless you installed an SAP GUI on the same computer before, which already specified the port numbers for a series of SAP services, you must create TCP/IP services in the services file of the operating system, with name sapmsSID and sapgwSID for each SAP service required. SID represents the message or gateway service ID. For example, if the gateway service is running a SAP application server where the system number is 01, then the service name required is sapgw01.

The location of the services file depends on the operating system:

• Windows C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\services

• UNIX /etc/services
