2 | Chapter 1 Product Overview

Repository Designer

Repositories are the cornerstone of TIBCO MDM. All your data and records, both master and reference, are created, stored, and managed in repositories.

The Repository Designer adds a visual element to designing repositories and makes the process quicker and more intuitive.

The Repository Designer is based on TIBCO Business Studio and acts as an 'add on' component to Business Studio. The Repository Designer now comes with a new, MDM specific model editor through which you can design and edit your repository model. Repository models are now in a .rep format, contained in a special folder called “Repository Models”.

What you can do with the Repository Designer

With the Repository Designer, you can create repositories, modify them, add attributes and attribute groups, create self or cross repository relationships, and export the final repository model to MDM and use it as is.

You can also import repository metadata exported from MDM into the Repository Designer for further edits. You can also perform Direct deployment using network deployment on the MDM.

The repository model now supports creation of output maps, synchronization formats, Input Maps, Perspective, and classification schemes for your repository.

Rulebase Designer

The TIBCO MDM Rulebase Designer provides an intuitive graphical user interface to help business users understand and design rule and rule flows for MDM. The Rulebase Designer adds a visual element to designing rulebases and makes the process quicker and more intuitive.

The Rulebase Designer is based on TIBCO Business Studio and acts as an 'add on' component to Business Studio. Rulebase models are stored in a .rul format, contained in a special folder called Rulebase Models.

What you can do with the Rulebase Designer

The Rulebase Designer provides an interface to:

• Graphically declare Variables and Constraints.

• Graphically define If-Then-Else conditions (flowchart representation).

• Graphically define Actions corresponding to Then or Else conditions.

• Define Expressions through an expression editor (for Conditions/Actions described by expressions and where clauses).

• Define Expressions with ease using the context sensitive help in the expression editor.

• Drag and drop semantics in the expression editor.

• Check syntax of rules at development time.

• Import existing rulebases.

• Direct deployment to MDM using network deployment on the MDM Server.

4 | Chapter 1 Product Overview

Process Designer

Workflows are integral to TIBCO MDM. Organizations use workflows extensively to initiate and manage their business processes.

TIBCO MDM currently supports processes defined as XML. With the various parameters and details that you need to define, creating processes can be time consuming and complicated.

The Process Designer addresses this need by providing a graphical user interface for designing processes. It can be used to define processes from scratch or to edit existing processes. It is based on TIBCO Business Studio and acts as an 'add on' component to Business Studio.

You can create workflows from scratch in the Process Designer and then export it back to MDM or you can import existing workflows from MDM into the Process Designer for modification.

You can also perform Direct deployment using network deployment on the MDM Server.

About Business StudioTIBCO Business Studio is an application designer suite of tools intended for business analysts and those responsible for the implementation of business processes. It is intended as a comprehensive designer for multiple workflow engines. It includes, among other components such as Analyst tools largely focusing on simulating business processes, a Workflow Designer and a data modeling tool - Concept Modeler. Business Studio is based on the Eclipse toolset.

XPDL and MDMBusiness Studio stores workflow designer models according to the XPDL standard. XPDL (XML Process Definition Language) is an XML schema based language to express a process definition. It contains a commonly used set of primitives for workflow modeling, and also includes several extension points. Business Studio provides a graphical designer for XPDL without extension. It supports workflow definitions in syntax other than XPDL. The primary mechanism to support other process flow definition languages is through mapping the languages from XPDL to other languages, both as an import mapping and as an export mapping.

TIBCO MDM Studio Installation Guide

Page 19: TIBCO MDM Studio Installation Guide · TIBCO MDM Studio Installation Guide |vii Preface The TIBCO MDM Studio provides a graphical interface for designing MDM artifacts and processes.

Process Designer | 5

MDM uses its own workflow definition language, also based on XML Schema. In general, XPDL is a superset of the concepts in the MDM workflow. However, there are some areas where the MDM workflow definition language is not easily mapped onto XPDL.

WSDL and the MDM Process DesignerThe MDM Process Designer uses Web Service Description Language (WSDL) for definition of MDM activities. For more details, refer to Chapter 4 Activities in Process Designer User’s Guide.

6 | Chapter 1 Product Overview

UI Builder

MDM UI Builder allows customers and TIBCO Field Engineers to build custom UIs for the MDM application. Using UI Design tool you can simply drag and drop the UI widgets onto the tree outline viewer to build custom user interfaces for their own requirements. The tool supports TIBCO MDM by providing access to complete data models, individual repositories, and repository attributes and their attribute groups directly from the tool's GUI palette. This process reduces the custom UI development time compared to the exiting methods and practices. It also allows you to include custom widgets which is not available in the out-of-the-box widget list.

The UI Builder is a Design Tool act as an 'add on' component to Business Studio. MDM UI pages are stored in a .mub format, contained in a special folder called UI Builder.

What you can do with UI Builder

Using the UI Builder you can:

• Design HTML pages for the custom UI.

• Export the auto-generated UI artifacts (HTML, JS, and CSS) and deployed it on MDM application.

• Export custom page artifacts to MDM using different menu options.

Installing in the Silent Mode - All Platforms

The following procedure explains how to install TIBCO MDM Studio in the silent mode on all platforms. The TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file is packaged in the directory that contains the universal installer. You must edit the file with the information for your environment before launching the silent installation. The file includes comments that describe the installation properties you can set. While you can use the TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file, it is recommended that you copy the file to a different name and use that file for the silent install.

If errors occur during installation, they will be listed in the installation log file (see the User_Home/.TIBCO directory).

1. Open the distribution DVD or download the TIBCO MDM Studio product package.

2. Extract the TIBCO MDM Studio product archive file to a temporary directory.

3. Using a console window, navigate to the temporary directory that contains the universal installer.

4. Copy the TIBCOUniversalInstaller_bstudio-mdm.4.0.0.silent file and rename the file.

5. Using a text editor, open the copied file and update the install location, and the list of features to install.

6. Run the installer:

Windows TIBCOUniversalInstaller.cmd -silent -V responseFile="myfilename.silent"
