Tiddington is to be the home for 60 new residents!
The old Tiddington Fields building is to bedemolished ready for a new development. In aTCC News exclusive we can announce that thenew building is expected to be named“Margaret Court” in honour of the wife ofRetirement Security MD Bob Bessell. Bobcommented “I guess that just about everyone inTiddington will be pleased that the end of theTiddington Fields saga is in sight. This has only beenpossible because of the remarkable support which thenew project has had from the local people. TheInspector who conducted the Appeal commented in hisReport that the local support was an important decidingfactor and we thank everyone for their assistance”. Thetimetable is for the existing buildings to be demolishedin January. Work will then start on the new building, which is expected to be completed in June 2009. Bobsaid “it is our intention to mount an exhibition of ourplans around Easter 2008 when detailed Plans of theindividual Apartments and the communal areas will beon display in the TCC. It is certainly our intention toprovide a building which Tiddington can be proud of”.
Bob continued “Our hope is that this will be a tangiblesign of the reciprocal relationship which we hope willdevelop between the TCC and the new development.Which, subject to the agreement of the District Council,we hope to call ‘Margaret Court’ to distinguish it from‘Tiddington Court’ which after 22 years is a wellestablished part of Tiddington life. In addition to theapproved plans to build 44 apartments on the site of theexisting Tiddington Fields buildings, an application hasbeen made for planning permission to build 6bungalows, as part of the same development, on the site
of numbers 52 and 54 Main Street”. Bob has nowconfirmed that a public meeting will be held onTuesday 11th December at 6pm in the TCC toconsider these amendments to the plans and he willbe providing full details of what is now proposed”.“With the TCC as their closest neighbour” said TCCChair Rob Cobley, “we are hoping that the newresidents will feel doubly welcome by the newlyrefurbished TCC. They will also be able to takeadvantage of the growing number of activities beingheld at the TCC. These include weekly Tea & Chat 2pmFriday, monthly Tea-Dance 2nd Wednesday in aid of theShakespeare Hospice, fortnightly Monday Bingo run byTCC members, new weekly Tai Chi on Wednesdays aswell as a host of other activities”. Retirement Securityhas made a very generous gift of £5,000 to the TCCwhich together with an equally generous donation of£5,000 from South Warwickshire Housing Associationwill enable us to start Phase 3 of our refurbishmentprogramme and will finance the purchase of muchneeded equipment. With the newly fenced andresurfaced exterior to the TCC it is looking even betterthan when brand new! We also thank Stratford DistrictCouncil for their very valuable contribution towards ourrecent works. Anyone seeking information about anyaspect of this new project is welcome to contactRetirement Security by email to:[email protected] or via their websitewww.retirementsecurity.co.uk or call S/A 292952.

We have seen the TCC used fora large number of young children’s birthday parties (5-12 year olds) & also it has been hired for a number ofsuccessful significant Anniversary & Birthday parties. With a full entertainments licence (include alcohol) youshould consider the TCC for all your celebrations in2008. We are planning on enhancing the kitchen with anew commercial oven & dishwasher (washes in 2minutes!) & by the time you read this we will have anew fence all around the grounds. And we now haveparking for around 24 cars. With the new look of theTCC it’s a venue we can all be proud of.It is a real pleasure to announce that a new TiddingtonWI has started & already has some 24 members. JennyCobley is their first president & the ladies meet everythird Thursday monthly at 7.30pm. With an age rangeof 30+ to 60ish this is a young WI. Why not give thema try? Next meeting is on Thursday 20th December &will be a Quiz Night. The WI are already active & ranthe cakes stall at the recent Church Autumn Fair & havevery kindly offered to man the refreshment at themonthly Film Nights! Thank-you ladies!Which brings us nicely on to the new Moving Picturesbeing shown at the TCC? We have a large 10 footscreen & a superb projector & speakers! The TCC canseat up to 120 in comfortable chairs & it’s just likebeing in a ‘real’ cinema! Our first Film Night saw thechildren’s film Shrek the Third. It was a great success& attended by over 80 adults & children. Sadly theadult film DreamGirls that followed was poorlyattended & ran at a loss. At 6pm on Friday 7 Decemberwe will show a children’s film ‘Bridge to Terabithia’which has excellent reviews & is suitable for all ages. Itis from the same team that produced Chronicles of
Narnia and is said to be even better, making it a mustfor all adults & children & teenagers too!On Friday 18 January we will show Transformers at
6pm & Atonement at 9pm. Tickets are £3 for adults& £2 for accompanied children, with ice-cream, drinks& sweets at great prices. We are delighted to welcomeDuo Nocturne (Rebecca Clifford & Brian Penny)performing classical works composed for two guitars onSaturday 7th December at 7.30. A first for the TCC was our Wine tasting by WineDiploma Specialist Colin McCrudden who took usthrough his selection of ‘8 wines for all occasions atChristmas’. A great turnout of over 50 with anexcellent buffet provided by Anne Parker. Colin’s
selected wines were as follows and all are availablelocally. Some may still be on special offer!
Did you get to see the University of Warwick Opera? We were treated to a fantastic performance of TheSorcerer on stage at the TCC by the universitystudents & the acting & singing was superb. Thestudents also went to Alveston School & worked with2 classes of pupils. What a great example thesestudents set! And they will be back to the TCC - watchthis space. We are trying to make sure the TCC is wellused, after all we have spent a great deal of money onit already & there is more to do! We are determinedthat Tiddington will have a Community Centre to beproud of & accessible to all.

WANTED: One problem area where we could reallydo with some help is from someone skilled in painting& decorating! Now we donot want them to stop enjoying themselves so we needa handyman or woman who could touch-up thepaintwork for us on a regular basis thus keeping theTCC in pristine condition.
