Summer 2013 Summer Teaching Institute: Volunteered to assist with and attend the Summer Teaching Institute conducted by the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. This institute was designed to help faculty teach through use of active learning, with technology and non-tech means, both online and in classrooms, to engage students in a learning community, and to create courses that bring about student engagement and better student learning outcomes.

Summer 2013 Certificate in Grant Writing and Proposal Development: Completed a series of

workshops and online trainings offered by the University of Tennessee’s Office of Research on the topics of grant writing, proposal development, and ethics. Completed all requirements necessary and received a certificate in Grant Writing and Proposal Development.

Summer 2013 Atlas.ti Basics: Participated in a two-hour workshop that provided an overview

Summer 2013 CITI Ethics Training for Responsible Conduct of Research: Completed the online

certification program for responsible conduct of research sponsored by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).

Fall 2012 American Evaluation Association Preconference Workshop: Participated in a one

day workshop sponsored by the American Evaluation Association in Minneapolis, MN. The workshop was titled “Advanced Concepts, Methods, and Problems”. This workshop was taught by Dr. Michael Scriven.

Fall 2012 Best Practices in Teaching Program: Participated in a seven session workshop

program that provided additional training to graduate students and future/new faculty members in teaching-related issues. Example topics were mentorship, course design, diversity in the classroom, classroom ethics and civility, and constructing a teaching portfolio. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a certificate for their teaching portfolios. Fall 2012 Building the NSF Grant Proposal: Participated in a three-hour workshop that

focused on how to interact with the National Science Foundation and proven techniques for writing effectively for each section of the NSF proposal. Conducted by Dr. Bob Porter at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN.

Spring 2012 Career Development Grants for Pre- and Postdocs: Participated in a two-hour

workshop that focused on the different types of grants that pre- and postdocs can apply for. The session focused on where and how to apply for such grants. Conducted by Dr. Bob Porter at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN.

Spring 2012 Success with Proposal Development: Participated in a one-hour training session

to prepare principal investigators (PIs) to successfully write grant proposals. Particular attention was paid to the characteristics of a good proposal as well as the proposal selection process. Conducted by Dr. Bob Porter at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN.

Fall 2011 American Evaluation Association Preconference Workshop: Participated in a two

day workshop sponsored by the American Evaluation Association in Anaheim, CA. The workshop was titled “Developmental Evaluation: Applying Complexity Concepts to Enhance Innovation and Use.” This workshop was taught by Dr. Michael Quinn Patton.

Fall 2011 TERA-PAMS Proposal Preparation: Participated in a two-hour training session to

prepare principal investigators (PIs) to use the Tennessee Electronic Research Administration (TERA) system. The module used for proposal creation, routing/approval, and award maintenance is Proposal and Award Maintenance System (PAMS). Sponsored by the University of Tennessee Office of Research, Knoxville, TN.

Fall 2011 Writing Successful Grants, Part I: The first in a two-part series. This two-hour

The workshops included: Evaluator Competencies, Evaluation in the Real World Case Studies, Using the Guiding Principles to Improve Your Practice, Developmental Evaluation, and Handling Data: From Logic Model to Final Report.

Fall 2010 QDA Miner Training: Participated in an hour long training session on qualitative

data analysis using QDA Miner sponsored by the University of Tennessee. This session detailed how to import or enter text, search for keywords, code blocks of text, find patterns of codes, calculate inter-coder reliability, compare groups and export your findings to other packages. This was conducted by the Office of Information Technology at the University of Tennessee.

Fall 2010 SPSS Training Workshop: Participated in a three-hour training session on data

management and statistical analyses with IBM SPSS v. 18 conducted by Dr. Jennifer Ann Morrow at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN.

Duties Included: Analyzing and writing yearly and quarterly reports for four student surveys sent to undergraduates and graduates at the University of Tennessee, writing and submitting an IRB application for the analysis of evaluation data for a suicide prevention training program. 100 hours during the Summer Semester.

Summer 2012 Knoxville Family Justice Center

Supervisor: Amy Dilworth, MS.

Duties Included: Revising the KFJC intake assessment using the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software in order to meet the needs of the grant funders, clients, volunteers, and agencies; working with the executive director and program manager to produce a capacity building workshop in which participants were taught more about evaluation and the benefit of communication in organizations. 100 hours during the Summer Semester.

Fall 2011 Knoxville Family Justice Center

Supervisor: Amy Dilworth, MS.

Duties Included: Revising the KFJC client satisfaction survey to meet the needs of the grant funders as well as make it more utilizable by each agency in the center; working with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software and creating an intake form with branching questions to make it more efficient for the center to gain information about clients in a timely manner; working with the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in order to merge client data regarding domestic violence so as to more accurately represent the number of clients served. 100 hours during the Fall Semester.

Duties Included: Developed a senior thesis project investigating the role of free will and determinism on relationship preference. Submitted and approved by the Institutional Review Board. Personally collected data for seventy-five participants, analyzed data, and have written and defended a Senior Thesis based on the results.

Worked on a project with Dr. Laura Widman titled, "Inside the Minds of Sex Offenders: Illuminating the role of implicit rape attitudes in sexual offending", a validation study for a novel implicit attitude assessment in a sample of convicted sexual offenders, community men, and college students. Lead research assistant on dissertation project.

Worked on a project with Dr. Caroline Mann titled, “In a stranger’s shoes: Reducing mental illness stigma through perspective-taking”, a study that assessed the efficacy of a perspective-taking protocol on attitudes toward individuals with various psychological disorders and explored the underlying theoretical mechanisms. Lead research assistant and collaborator on dissertation project. Presented a subsequent poster at the Society for Personality and Social Psychology 2009 conference.
