Greetings Parents and Guardians:

Thanks you to all parents for participating in the SHARING SOUP activity! We really enjoyed

sharing and eating with you! Just a reminder that the winter season is steadily approaching.

Be sure that all students are covered daily with coats, socks, and under garments to ensure a

healthy seasonal transition.

Jumpstart your child for the new year by reviewing letters, numbers, tying shoes, address/

phone numbers and sight words. Also, read with your child daily and ask questions before,

during, and after reading. We want to build better readers and better students.

Happy New Year!

The Inkredible Kindergarten Team,

Ms. Sheri Alsobrook, Mrs. Robbie Ellison, Ms. Kimberly Harper

Happy New Year First Grade Family!

Our focus for this month is reading. We are asking that your child read nightly for 15 to 30

minutes. We are sending books home weekly for your child to read. Please make sure your child

reads the books and returns them in the same condition. The books sent home are from our

classroom library. So we are asking that you take good care of them.

In the upcoming weeks you will receive your child’s reading level. The goal for our students is to

have a reading level of 250 or above by the end of the school year. So, we really need your help.

Happy 2016!

Greetings from the Sensational Second Grade team! It’s already January which means the

second semester has begun. Just a reminder that homework folders are sent home daily and

should be signed and returned each day! Also, students should be reading EVERY NIGHT at

home! We are pushing this in their classes consistently. We enjoyed our annual field trip to the

Atlanta Ballet on December 11, 2015 and we thank all parents who volunteered to chaperone.

We are also excited to announce that the grant that our team lead Ms. Jefferson just applied for

was approved! The grant from the Nature Conservancy will help us begin a community service

project in which second grade students will learn about food justice and build a community

vegetable garden to add on to the one already installed by the Captain Planet Foundation.

Thank you for all that you do to support your children as well as their teachers. Second Grade

rocks, and SO DO YOU!

The Sensational Second Grade Team,

Ms. Brittney Farmer, Ms. Danielle Jefferson, and Mrs. Colette Wright

Happy New Year third grade families! We are beginning the second semester! Your

students have been immersed in learning and we’re excited to see their growth. In math, we have moved into the relationship between multiplication and addition.

Please continue to practice those addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts!

Fluency in those areas is a key success in math.

In reading, we are continuing to learn to read fluently, read for comprehension, writing

in response to what we’ve read, and summarizing passages. - Continued on page 4

Third Grade News

Greetings Fourth Grade Parents,

Welcome to January 2016! We hope your holiday season was a great time to bond with family

and friends. As we begin the second semester, we would like to offer some helpful ways to

assist your students in mastering the skills that were taught during the first semester. There

are a lot of fun ways that we can teach our kids the literacy skills that they need to acquire and

master. The most important way is to read with your kids and share wonderful stories with

each other.

Ways to Support At Home:

In ELA, the focus will continuously be on sentence structure and expanding upon

previously learned grammar skills. In Social Studies, we are moving into the unit, “Life,

Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” The students are continuing their study of the

foundation of the United States, while also examining the ideals and beliefs of certain

historical figures like Mary McLeod Bethune, Fredrick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony. In

science we have begun our unit on heat. Ask your child to tell you some sources of heat and

how it is measured.

As always, we are continuously preparing your scholars for the Georgia Milestones

Assessment. Parents, here are some things that you can do to help support your student at

home: Make sure he/she has a quiet, designated space to complete homework. Provide a time limit so that they understand the importance of staying on task. Make them defend their answers and explain their thinking in ALL subjects. Read with daily to increase fluency and ask questions to enhance comprehension.

Remember, this is a partnership and your child’s success is OUR success!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

As the second semester of the year begins, we want to push our fifth grade students toward

their personal reading goals. Every student is striving to read 25 books by the end of the year.

Parents, please continue to encourage your child to read daily at home. Students are required

to read 30 minutes each night. They may read a newspaper, magazine, cartoon comics, or a

book.

Thank you to all fifth grade parents and guardians for all you do to help make learning

a success for your children.
