PENTECOST An installation piece that used cardboard
tubes It was assembled in the shape of a tree Twelve life sized replicas of Tim were
placed on various spots of the treeThey were all mechanical and would beat
out religious hymns using a different part of the body
Analysis:
The artist simplified the tree into basic tube
Shapes. Instead of looking like an actual
Tree it gives off the feeling of being a tree.
A tree can be interpreted as a connection
Between the heavens and the earth.
He placed all of the bodies in different
Ways all over the tree to show that not one
Of them are alike.
Interpretation:
The title is an allusion back to a jewish holiday where the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ were given the ability to speak in different languages by the Holy Spirit. Tim Hawkinson portrays this by having each of the twelve bodies beat out a rhythm at a different time as if they are each speaking their own language of music.
Judgment:
The artwork is very different but cleverly
gets the artist’s point and ideas across by
using metaphors and allusions to old
religious stories. Overall I feel like the
Artist did a great job with this piece.
