Health conscious individuals;1 would like lo beg five minutes of your

time. Do you realize that the Food And DrugAdministration (FDA) is working overtime toclassify vitamins, minerals, ami no acids, andherbs as prescription drugs. The Food AndDrug Administration assumes that individualsdo not possess the expert knowledge requiredlo make sound personal decisions regardingtheir and their families personal health, partic-ularly if such decisions are outside of what isjudged lo be medically sound by ih AmericanMedical Association and the Food And DrugAdministration. Ibis group of people, employed by you and 1, believes that when asupplement improves human physiologicalfunctioning (improves health) the supplementbecomes a "drug".

Amazing as it may sound, the FDA in MayOf 1992, arms-drawn, raided the health clinico\ Jonathan Wright M.D. of Tacoma.Washington. His office records and supple-ments were confiscated and staff terrorized bytwelve FDA agents and ten Kent Countypoliceman. A medical doctor was dispensingvitamin and mineral supplements to hispatients. Here the FDA had played the role ofcommon thugs.

There seems to be a link between the L-Tryptophan scare a few years ago and what theFDA is attempting lo do now. L-Trypiophan,an amino acid found in turkey, milk, and otherfoods, has been used by literally millions ofpeople in the United States and around theworld as an aid in dieting, to relieve insomnia, and to relieve tension. L-Tryptophan wastaken off the market because the product wascontaminated by one Japanese company due toa faulty laboratory filtration procedure. Allcontaminated L-Tryptophan was removed andyet the FDA still refuses to allow this aminoacid to be sold.

Reflect back for one minute. How manytimes have you taken a legal prescription drugprescribed by a physician and experienced theside effects of that drug. You probably experi-enced side effects worse than the cure. Therearc no known side effects when taking vitaminand mineral supplements, as long as they arenot taken in excess. These same vitamins andminerals arc found in the food that we cat.

If the Food And Drug Administration is sovehement on taking something off the marketlet them consider the food additives, colorings, and preservatives that we consume every day.More has been written concerning the harmthey cause than the good that they do.

Aer Lingus May Shed 1,000 JobsAer Lingus ma) eliminate up to l,000 jobs as part of its new survival package. There

have also been rumors that the airline would discontinue its trans-Atlantic service but thishas been denied by Aer Lingus officials.

Although the world-wide recession was blamed for most of the airline's woes, the poli-cies pursued by its management are also a major factor and a cash infusion b\ the govern-ment will be required to rescue the airline.

One of the prime jewels in the Aer Lingus crown, is its ownership of the Copihorne hotelchain in Britain, France and Belgium, might be offered up for sale, as its worth is estimatedto be more than 100-million pounds.

All AboutPets

By Virginia StiilwagonThere are 20 million abandoned pets in America today. They have been thrown out of

their homes - left on the side of the road, in an alley or turned in to an animal shelter - sim-ply because that owner does not want the responsibility of caring. These animals arc doomedto a short and brutal life. The shame of it is that these animals should not have been born inthe first place.

There are more than 10 times as many dos and cats born in America than there are homeswilling to take them in. About 3000 kittens and puppies are born every hour. While you arereading this 50 dogs and cats have been born. Of the 50. only 5 will find permanent, lovinghomes. The rest will be given away or abandoned, and most will be destroyed.

One unspayed female dog and her descendants can produce 4,325 puppies in just 7 gener-ations. One unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 80 million kittens in 10 years

It happens when an irresponsible pet owner lets an unneutered male or unspayed femaleroam the neighborhood at will, when parents want their children to witness "the miracle ofbirth", or they think it will make the pet lazy and fat. (Food, not surgery, makes animals fat.)

It is not mean or cruel to spay or neuter a pet. Animals do not miss having a sex life orparenthood. They do desire food, a home and affection, luxuries that unwanted animals aredeprived of.

You can save money by getting it done through Friends of Animals, and if you partici-pate in one or more of the state programs such as food stamps, supplemental social security, medicaid, welfare, PAAD, etc. Any information you tell me is confidential.

Please call if I can be of any help - 727-6904.

Board of EdCandidate

Patricia Attardi KaneckeApril 20, 1993 is a very important day

for the future of South Amboy. The electionof three members to the Board of Education.

I am a life long resident of SouthAmboy, a graduate of South Amboy MiddleSchool, and if Hoffman High School. 1believe that a quality education is the key tofuture success, and I am very interested inworking for the children and taxpayers ofSouth Amboy.

Having been a student in the SouthAmboy School System not too long ago, 1am well aware of the overcrowded condi-tions of our facilities, forcing our children tobe bused out of South Amboy for their edu-cation. 1 am also aware of the need to haveour tax dollars spent on quality educationalprograms to better prepare our children fortheir future endeavor.

I am dedicated to providing the best edu-cational system for our children at an

affordable price to the taxpayers. This canonly be accomplished with your support.vote Line A-l Patricia (Attardi) Kanecke onApril 20, 1993.
