Time 2 Focus Wrap-up
Agenda
1. Introduction
2. Working at height

4. Logistics, Manual Handling & Handback (P5)
5. Electrical Systems (P6 Housekeeping
6. Conclusion
Why have time to focus
Albert Einstein is broadly credited with exclaiming “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.
That’s whyThis T2F is to summarise on the previous T2T focus areasTo see how well they influenced change on site
• What have we learned
• What will our legacy be
• How can we share the lessons learned

Working at Height
Main area of Focus
1. At the beginning of the year a spate of WAH incidents
identified working at height as a problem.
2. The time to focus helped the reinforcement of existing
procedures and creation of new regimes coupled with a
particular scrutiny on this topic has seen a change over
the past months.

Action Plan
1. Improve exclusion zones
2. Permit to MEWP
3. Pre use check sheets
4. Testing ground operative for emergency lowering
5. Tethered tools
6. New podiums with automatic gates
7. Scaffolders inspecting podiums
8. Safe time tagging
9. Ladder permits / Now electronic
10.Enhanced WAH detail within the induction
Outcomes
1. A rise in awareness reflected in reported instances of
good and unsafe conditions.
2. Identification of problem areas that needed action
3. Development of new processes and enhancement of
existing ones
4. Ongoing improvement

Operational & Asset Protection
We have just built it lets not wreck it.

Operational & Asset Protection
Main Areas of Focus
1. Protection of station assets
2. Reporting of damage events
3. Avoidance of operational station disruption false alarm
activations
Action Plan
1. Improve awareness of the need for asset protection
measures.
2. Check alarm commissioning handover and isolation
procedures
Outcomes
1. Site wide briefings on damage events
2. Raised awareness of damage events that have occurred
3. Improved damage reporting facility pre start of work via
PoWRA system
4. Improved alarm commissioning handover and isolation
procedures
5. Fire close calls to be screened monthly by SHE team and
a periodic review completed with Gary’s team as to what
improvements can be made

Logistics ,Manual handling
Main area of Focus
Logistics and manual handling go hand in hand.
Get logistics right and manual handling can be reduced
Get it wrong and suffer the consequences…
We've always had ongoing logistical challenges on the
project but this has been exacerbated by the ever decreasing
site footprint. This means that every bit of available space is
premium.
Being smart with planning logistics.
To bring what you need when and where you need it.

Logistics ,Manual handling
Action Plan
1. Reduce manual material movements
2. Explore alternative methods moving materials
3. Brief contractors about just in time deliveries
4. Where possible deliver close to workface
5. Evaluate what material is needed to complete work
6. Remind all contractors especially retail fitout about logistic
interfaces.
Outcomes
1. Utilisation of mechanical equipment to reduce manual handling
2. Briefing of incidents to contractors improved planning for
material transportation
3. Raised awareness of off peak times for material movements:
covered in pre start meetings
4. A site wide reduction of clutter and risk of falling materials
5. Reduction in wastage from damaged materials

Handover
The key benefits of compliance to the permit and authority to
access processes are:
• Duty of care towards other members of staff and those who
want to access the room, so they are briefed on changes in
the room or potential impacts of works they might be
unaware of.
• Control of access in EIS rooms, to understand who enters
these and impact of works on operational equipment which
could potentially affect the station particularly as we strive to
be DOWL free.
• Able to drive and maintain good housekeeping.
• Eliminate the need of unnecessary presence in EIS room,
reducing health and safety risks.
As the end of the Project draws closer large areas of the station are handed over into operational use, a
key focus area will be compliance access processes for works in Station Offices, Retail units and Back of
House areas.
Over the coming weeks changes will be rolled out to provide further adherence to the Network Rail Operating Procedure for
management of access and restricted areas.

“Electricity is invisible and a constant
danger, it is never to be underestimated or
ignored”
