The ability to track a person's movements and determine- can be achieved through various tools
there is a large amount of research done in image/video based Gesture Recognition
Time of flight camera
TOF-can generate a depth map of what is being seen through the camera at a short range, and use this data to approximate a 3d representation of what is being seen.
These can be effective for detection of hand gestures due to their short range capabilities.
Illumination unit: It illuminates the scene-normally uses infrared light to make the illumination
Optics: A lens gathers the reflected light and images the environment onto the image sensor
Computation/Interface
Image sensor: This is the heart of the TOF camera.
Driver electronics
The simplest version of a time-of-flight camera uses light pulses.
method used to measure the time that it takes for a object to reach a detector -over a known distance.
The camera lens gathers the reflected light and images it onto the sensor plane. Depending on the distance, the incoming light delay.
As speed of light C= 300'000'000 meters per second, if an object 2.5 m away, Time of the light-
Simplicity- the whole system is very compact: the illumination is placed just next to the lens
Speed- the cameras reach up to 100 frames per second, they are ideally suited to be used in real-time application
Disadvantage- Background light it doesn’t give a good quality to the
video due to bright Sun/light
Human-machine interfaces / Gaming
Measurement / Machine vision- measurement tasks, e.g. for the fill height in silos
Robotics- camera helps to classify objects and help robots find the items
