ABOUT THE DIRECTOR Nic Balthazar
Nic Balthazar started his professional career as a theatre reviewer. After a while, he moved on to become a fi lm critic, fi rst for a newspaper and then also for radio and television. In 2006 Nic Balthazar directed his feature fi lm debut Ben X, which won the three main prizes at the Montréal World Film Festival, took the Black Pearl Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the Middle East International Film Festival in Abu Dhabi, the Red Star Award for most innovative fi lm at Palm Springs and the Directors’ and Audience Choice Awards for Best Foreign Film at the Sedona International Film Festival. Ben X was sold to over 50 countries including France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain and the USA.

Thomas and Mario are friends for life. Lynn is the girl they both love; Speck the loose cannon who’s the fourth wheel to their wagon. Mario is a fi ercely ambitious and combative young man, with a loud mouth, and big theatrical plans for an exciting future, great in every way. Just when his political career is about to get under steam, he is suddenly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.At fi rst, he tries to take it all with courage under sense of humour that is his. But pretty soon he fi nds out the aggressive nature of his disease. Very early on he is clear on one thing: he plans to go on for as long as his body will carry him. And for as long as it’s fun.Confronted with the prospect of a very slowly decaying body, and even worse a faltering mind, Mario starts his quest to try and get euthanasia out of the penal system.BASED ON A TRUE STORY
