Timisoara Timisoara is a city in the west of Romania. It has always been the richest city because of the cultural minorities of Germans, Hungarians, Serbians and Austrians and the favorable position. It has the first beer house of the historical Hungary and then of Romania, and it was the first city to be illuminated by lamps, than gas and finally electricity. Its the only city in Europe that has state theaters in Romanian, Hungarian and German.

Celebrations One of the main celebrations in Timisoara is The Romania Day, on the 1st of December. We remember the revolution of 89, which started from Timisoara, when communism failed and the last dictator was killed.

We celebrate that day by bringing crowns of flowers at the Heroes Cemetery, where people who fought against Ceausescus army are buried.

We celebrate Christmas on the 25 of December, we stay with our families and the girls help grandma in the kitchen while the boys drink homemade brandy, made by grandpa, and eat Romanian bacon. The kids enjoy their new toys brought by Santa. The dinner is made of Sarmale, soup, homemade pork sausages like Cartabos or Sangerete, and pork roast. The old ones prepare for winter plum brandy in the summer and the pig

that they have reared or bought. For dessert we must have Cozonac , a cake that our mothers have to work out very hard. In the evening of the 24th children go door by door and sing carols with religious songs and the neighbors give them sweets, fruits and money. The children do this on the 30 of December too when they wish everyone a good new year with a specific song.

Costumes The Banatian traditional costume is made of flax and its hand decorated with golden and colored thread, thats why its very expensive, but although everyone has one at home and they use it at festivals and to go to traditional dance lessons. A long time and grandfathers had one costume and lots of accessories like hand and golden bracelets.

The summer clothing is compose of a white shirt with different patterns called Ie for the women and Camasa for men, a long skirt and matchup shirt and an apron for women and plain white pants for men. The shoes for both are made of black leather. Men wear a black vest over the shirt and a hat and girls wear their hair up and decorate it with pearls an flowers. Food The Banatian Easter meal is made of braided bread called Colac, a lamb block with eggs and vegetables called Drob, and red colored eggs that represents the blood of Jesus Christ, they became an artwork and they are unique in the world because they are hand painted with pearls and gold decorations. The dessert is made of a cake with fresh cheese and raisins called Pasca.

If you go in the center you can find different food , traditional or not they are all delicious and various. The traditional dishes that you can find at the different boutiques are: special doughnuts called Banatian Crofne, a very sweet thing calles Colac Secuiesc, something that resembles the Getman Bretzel but more various called Covrigi, Langosi, similar to the Italian Focaccia but stuffed with fresh cheese and a green spice called Marar. You can make all this at home but you can also buy them in the city and maybe eat them with your friends after school. Everybody remembers when they were young and used to go with their grandparents to the market. There you can see old ladies that sells fruits, vegetables, flowers and many other things. Other traditional dishes are the tomato soup, cream chicken and Papricas. Shepherds Romania has a long tradition of the grazing of the sheep, goats and cows especially in western Romania. The shepherds live in small villages and they are all day long at the sheepfold watching the animals, milking them and making cheese, cream and yogurt that people buy from them. If you want to buy fresh cheese you don't have to go to the shepherd's house, you can buy it from the market, or if you live in the county you have a big choice of where to subscribe to receive fresh milk, cheese and yogurt, and they will bring it to you at home as often as you desire.

Music Romania is a European country with a multicultural music environment which includes active ethnic music scenes. Romania also has thriving scenes in the fields of pop music, hip hop, heavy metal and rock and roll. During the first decade of the 21st century some Europop artists, such as Morandi, Akcent, Edward Maya, Alexandra Stan, Inna and Yarabi, achieved success abroad. Traditional Romanian folk music remains popular, and some folk musicians have come to national (and even international) fame.

The folk music in Timisoara is closer to the Hungarian style than to Romanian music outside Transylvania and the Hungarian music of Transylvania sounds more Romanian than the music of Hungary. The Romanian dances often have a more irregular rhythm than the Hungarian.
