WEEKLY NEWSLETTER AND MENU May 1—May 5, 2017
Message from Mr. Ciochina
Greetings Timothy Ball Families, With the busy Spring season upon us, there are many events planned here at school and schedules after school are getting very busy for many families — please take a look at the reminders below.
Visitors:
All visitors to Timothy Ball must ‘buzz’ in at the front door and report
to the main office to sign in and check in. Visitors also need to sign
out when they leave the building.
Dismissal:
Car Riders—All students being picked up will use the east lot on the
side of the building. Please be patient as we work with our students
exiting the building each day. Please keep in mind — slow and safe is
a good thing! The lower lot on the west side of the school should not
be used to pick up students.
Walkers—Students who walk will exit with two staff members out the
doors on the west side of the building and will be escorted to the
crossing guard on Summit St. Please refrain from crossing the street
and picking up your child from the car rider area. Bike riders will pick
up their bikes from the rack and walk with them while on school
grounds.
Morning drop-off:
Students should be dropped off in the east lot in the morning. Please
drive slowly and cautiously while in our school zone and parking lot. If
you have made special arrangements to use the horseshoe in the
morning, please drive with caution.
Thank you for your commitment to following these guidelines to
ensure the safety for all of our Timothy Ball students and families.
Have a great week!

the cafeteria, cost is $3.15. This cannot come off the student’s
lunch card. A quick reminder to all parents visiting for lunch in the
café: Please do not treat other students to food items during your

knowledge, and other sensitivities to food choices, it is best to treat
only your student. We love having you in to share a great lunch at
Tball…..we just ask that you do it safely!
Lunch Time Money Please go online www.mymealtime.com to deposit lunch money or
you can send a check in a labeled envelope with student first & last

food make sure it is in a thermos.
Would you like to Substitute in the Cafeteria? If you would like to be a sub in food services please call Pam
Maloney at 662-6480. This is a great way to earn a little extra cash
and be home with your children in the morning & afternoon.
School Breakfast FAST FACT Students who eat breakfast have better attention and
memory. School breakfast is healthy, & convenient. Students who
participate in school breakfast show improved attendance, behav-
ior, standardized test scores as well as decreased tardi-
ness. Students who eat school breakfast attend, on average, 1.5
more days of school per year and score 17.5% higher on standard-
ized math tests.

Physical Education Notes from
Mrs. Decker
Field day is May 26 and WE NEED YOU!! Parent
volunteer slips will be coming home this
week. Please consider volunteering, without you this
day would not be possible.
Music Notes from
Mrs. Jackett
We want to shout out a big THANK YOU to Elizabeth Eenigen-
burg for sharing her harp with the students. She even let them
each have the opportunity to play the harp. How many people
can say they have had that experience?! So cool!
Parents of 5th Grade Students:
Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 23rd at 6:00
pm. The students will be hosting their “Farewell Concert.” It is
mandatory. I know there are some students in orchestra that have
a concert at the high school. I have been in contact with the or-
chestra directors and they have assured me that the students can
easily perform at Timothy Ball and then make their way over to
the orchestra concert.
An art note from Mrs. Hufford I’m so excited to see that there are a whole bunch of new Artsonia comments! Thank you so much for actively supporting your students’ art creation! If you missed getting involved with Artsonia, it’s not too late—just contact me and I will give you the code you need to see your child’s art and cre-ate a fan club for them. [email protected]

Student Council Bottle Cap Collection
Timothy Ball Student Council is collecting bottle caps and plastic lids. We are hoping to get enough plastic to “purchase” two recycled benches from Green Tree Plastics, Inc. We need approximately 900lbs of plastic to get both benches. We will place one bench on each playground to be used as our “Buddy Bench”. The students know that if they do not have someone to play with at recess, they can sit on the “Buddy Bench” and a friend will come play with them. We wanted the students to feel like they were a part of the entire process, so we are beginning with collecting the caps. Below are the acceptable caps that we can collect. There are bins placed in different parts of the school for collection. Send in those lids, so we can start our journey towards our bench-es.

Sick Day Guidelines:
Making the Right Call
When Your Child Is Sick:
Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school? School policy (and/or state law) requires a child to stay home if he or she:
Has a fever of 100.0° or higher
Has been vomiting or has diarrhea
Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:
Very tired or lack of appetite
Cough that he or she cannot control, sneezing often
Headache, body aches, or earache
Sore Throat – a little sore throat is ok for school, but a bad sore throat
could be strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep
throat, in children are a headache and upset stomach, or rash. Call your
doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to know if
it is strep throat.
Keep your child home if he or she is coughing or sneezing often because this
spread the sickness to others.
24 Hour Rule
FEVER: Keep your child home until his or her FEVER has been gone WITHOUT
medicine for 24 hours. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Re-
turning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.
VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the LAST
time he or she vomited or had diarrhea.
ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of an-
tibiotics for anything like ear infection or strep throat.
We often have many children and adults with colds coming to school, and each one is
passing their sickness to others. Please help others from becoming sick by keeping
your child home during their illness.
