Next Wednesday (September 27) is an important day here at Timothy Ball for a couple reasons! It is our fall picture day, so be sure to return your picture packet and students, be sure to practice your picture day smile. It is also a half day — please be sure to plan for this early dismissal. School will dismiss at 12:14. & Through the first twenty-five days of school, our school-wide student attendance rate is 97.1% — keep up the good work! Attendance at school is crucial to student success — thank you for avoiding voluntary absences as much as possible! If I can be of assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. Have a great week. Whatever it takes. Lunch Time Information from Our Cafeteria

Lunch Time Visitors Each student is allowed to have one guest per month. Restaurant/fast food & sodas or glass containers are not allowed. Parents may purchase lunch in the cafeteria, cost is $3.25. This cannot come off the student’s lunch card. A quick reminder to all parents visiting for lunch in the ca-fé: Please do not treat other students to food items during your time in the café. Without proper parent permission, allergy knowledge, and other sensitivities to food choices, it is best to treat only your student. We love having you in to share a great lunch at Tball…..we just ask that you do it safely! We will start taking reservations for lunch guests in the month of October.

Lunch Time Money Please go online www.mymealtime.com to deposit lunch money or you can send a check in a labeled envelope with student first & last name. Mealtime online passcode is the student ID. Parents can find this number on the Parent RDS website, next to the student’s name on the sched-ule. Parents will use this number to set up the account. All students will receive a hot lunch regardless if the account is negative. No charging of any extras will be allowed. Please Note: All lunch money needs to be brought down in the morning before school, if not it will be deposited the next day.

Did you bring your lunch, but need a drink? Milk may be purchased, if you brought in a lunch from home. It cannot be charged on student lunch card if they have a negative balance. Milk cost is $0.40.

Heating up Lunches Our cafeteria does not warm up food, cook food or wash dishes brought from home. If we tamper with the food it becomes the liability of the cafe-teria. Please, if you are sending in hot food make sure it is in a thermos.

Would you like to Substitute in the Cafeteria? If you would like to be a sub in food services please call Pam Maloney at 662-6480. This is a great way to earn a little extra cash and be home with your children in the morning & afternoon.

School Breakfast FAST FACT Students who eat breakfast have better attention and memory. School breakfast is healthy, & convenient. Students who participate in school breakfast show improved attendance, behavior, standardized test scores as well as decreased tardiness. Students who eat school breakfast at-tend, on average, 1.5 more days of school per year and score 17.5% high-er on standardized math tests.

Birthday Celebrations Birthday treats are always fun for your child to share with classmates. You may choose to purchase birthday tickets for your child’s class which will allow your child’s classmates to select a special treat from our “Birthday Choices” at lunch! Treats will be given out in our cafeteria. Call your cafe-teria manager, Mrs. “G” Sheppard to preorder & set your party up.

A Message from the Nurse 2017-2018 Medication Drop-off Medication must be in original container with Dr. and parent signature on medication form. Please send in a smaller bottle of Benadryl if this pertains to your child, this makes it easier for field trips and storage. If you have any questions about medication please contact our nurse.

Regarding Taking Medication at School- Remember that ALL medications must be accompanied by doctor & parent notes. Otherwise the medication cannot be given at school. All medication must be in its original container. All prescription medication must have the correct information on the label. Also, no cough drops, or essential oils are allowed at school unless accompanied by doctor & parent notes. No child should be bringing medication to school in order to self medicate.

Regarding Illness - Please keep all sick children home if they are running a fever of 100.0 or above, vomiting, or have diarrhea. A child running a fever can return to school once he/she has been fever free for 24 hours.

An art note from Mrs. Hufford

I’m starting to upload your kids’ art into the digital portfolio I

keep for them on Artsonia. If you have signed up for the

public gallery, you will be able to see your child’s artwork as

soon as I upload it. If you are new to Timothy Ball, or you

have not signed up for the public gallery in the past but

wish to do so now, a note will be coming home in the next

couple of weeks about how to participate. The best home

aspect of Artsonia is the ability to have a wide network of

your child’s family as a fan club. Far-away relatives love

that part. Rest assured that your child’s Classroom Mode or

personal information is NEVER public. Even though the

public gallery has a fundraiser component, I encourage you

to just enjoy your child’s art. We are not participating with

Artsonia just because it fundraises; Artsonia provides the

widest array of great classroom learning features and it’s

easy to interact with. If you do purchase something, 20% of

your purchase goes to Timothy Ball’s art program and has

paid for many exciting extra materials and supplies.

Sometimes the questions are complicated and

the answers are simple, Always ask questions!

A Message from our Home School Facilitator Mrs. Holok

As your child adjusts to a new grade and bigger expectations,

you might see changes in their behavior, emotions and atti-

tude. Here are a few tips for helping your child manage these

sometimes stressful changes:

Acknowledge when your child seems stressed. Let them

know that you understand change is hard.

Listen to your child. Let them tell you the good and the

bad parts of their day.

Help them identify their feelings. Finding the right feeling

word or words can reduce stress

Validate their feelings. Try not to tell your child he or she

shouldn’t feel a certain way.

Remind your child not to compare themselves to oth-

ers. Every child learns differently and at their own

pace.

Tell your child how important school is and doing their

best even when they don’t want to. Be firm in your

expectations.

ATTENTION -- ALL GRADES K-6TH

CLINIC TO BE HELD: Wednesday, October 11th and Thursday, October 12th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the Crown

Point High School Fieldhouse at 1500 S. Main Street. Please wear clothing you can be

active in!

PERFORMANCE: At PRE-GAME of the CPHS Varsity Football game, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13th - report to the

field house at 6:00 pm

UNIFORM: Your dance clinic t-shirt, black shorts or sweats

Sick Day Guidelines:

Making the Right Call

When Your Child Is Sick:

Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school? School policy (and/or state law) requires a child to stay home if he or she:

Has a fever of 100.0° or higher Has been vomiting or has diarrhea Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:

Very tired or lack of appetite Cough that he or she cannot control, sneezing often Headache, body aches, or earache Sore Throat – a little sore throat is ok for school, but a bad sore throat could be

strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep throat, in children are a headache and upset stomach, or rash. Call your doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to know if it is strep throat.

Keep your child home if he or she is coughing or sneezing often because this spread the sickness to others.

24 Hour Rule

FEVER: Keep your child home until his or her FEVER has been gone WITHOUT medi-cine for 24 hours. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.

VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the LAST time he or she vomited or had diarrhea.

ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiot-ics for anything like ear infection or strep throat.

We often have many children and adults with colds coming to school, and each one is passing their sickness to others. Please help others from becoming sick by keep-ing your child home during their illness.

Lost or Damaged Chromebook Lost Chromebook

If a student’s device is lost, the student is responsible for the full cost of replacement. While a device is being repaired or replaced, the student will be provided another device to continue the learning process.

Damaged Chromebook

If a student’s device is damaged, the student is responsible for the cost of repair. While a device is being repaired the student will be provided another device to continue the learning process.

The rented device is the property of the school within the Crown Point Community School Corporation. Therefore, the device must be repaired by Crown Point technology staff.

During the school year

During the school year Chromebooks assigned to a student that incur minor chips, cracks, and small dents to the case and continues to be fully functional are not sent in for repair. Damage more severe such as, missing keys, damaged screen, large cracks in the cover or bezel, or loss of functionality, must be repaired immediately and the cost of parts charged to the par-ents. Large cracks in the case are defined as anything big enough to allow damage to the circuit board or screen.

At the end of the school year

At the end of grade 12, the student’s Chromebook will be assessed for damage and refurbished, if necessary. The charge to refurbish will be incurred by the parent.

The refurbished Chromebook will be rented or loaned to another student the next school year.

Note: This ensures that the next recipient receives it in good condition and eliminates the possibility of paying for dam-age by an earlier user.

At the end of grade 8, the student’s Chromebook will be assessed for damage and refurbished, if necessary. The charge to refurbish will be incurred by the parent.

The refurbished Chromebook will be rented to another student the next school year.

Note: This ensures that the next recipient receives it in good condition and eliminates the possibility of paying for dam-age by an earlier user.

At the end of the 1st grade the student touchscreen Chromebook will be assessed for damage and refurbished, if nec-essary. The charge to refurbish will be incurred by the parent.

The refurbished touchscreen Chromebook will be rented to new kindergarten or grade 1 student the next school year.

This ensures that the next recipient receives it in good condition and eliminates the possibility of paying for damage by an earlier user.

For students being assigned the same computer the following year, minor damage will not be repaired at the end of the school year.

Withdrawals during the school year

Upon student withdrawal from a school, the student’s device will be assessed for damage and refurbished, if necessary. The charge to refurbish will be incurred by the parent. This includes a student who moves to another Crown Point school or withdraws from the corporation.

This ensures that the next recipient receives it in good condition and eliminates the possibility of paying for damage by an earlier user.

End-of-year Chromebook Assessment

The damage assessment of a Chromebook includes the following items.

Battery charge Audio/Speakers AC Adapter Visibility on screen Audio w/ Headphones Top Cover

Keyboard Camera Bottom Cover

Costs to repair a Chromebook

The amount to repair a damaged Chromebook fluctuates based on part availability and vendor cost. The cost of the parts are charged to the parent to repair the damage. Labor is not included in the charge.
