Neural transference is part of the theory of brain plasticity. Plasticity is the brain’s ability to change either as a normal everyday process or forced change through drugs, surgery, or therapy. The need for plasticity change ranges from normal learning to repairing of function following stroke or injury, or in the case of tinnitus, faulty neural interaction. Tinnitus often goes along with hearing loss; that may be the reason tinnitus therapies use sound as a “cure.” Numerous research supports the control of plasticity by way of changes in neural flow.

THAT IS WHAT WE DO!

What we are going to do.

We can measure the effects of DICHONICS using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) BUT we must depend on your responses to a variety of hearing tests to get a “diagnosis” of the effects of your tinnitus on

YOUBeginning with your

AGGRAVATION LEVEL (AGL)

TINNITUS AS AGGRAVATION

Several times throughout the testing you will be asked to rate your AGL on this scale:

Put on the earphones, R on the right ear L on left ear.

Listen. There might be a change in your tinnitus.

Rate your tinnitus as of now.

Getting ready

You will be guided through a step by step algorithm that defines the neural transference stimulus that is unique to you. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT TRYING TO COVER UP YOURTINNITUS WITH A LOUDER SOUND;WE ARE LOOKING FOR A COMPLEX SIGNAL THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HEAR! THIS PROCESS TAKES TIME, SO GET READY AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

The Algorithm

We are not trying to match your tinnitus. The first sounds you will hear are based

on your audiogram and might not be the same pitch for each ear.

Tell me if the sounds are too loud. First we make sure you can hear the

sounds one ear at a time; Then they will be adjusted to be equally

loud.

LOUDNESS MATCH

One ear at a time:Do you hear the tone and click?

They will both become quieter; follow them down responding to my prompting.

Repeat in the other ear.

mixed sounds

The click should be dominate. The click will be moved around your head. Tell me when the click is in the middle of

your head. Tell me to repeat if you need more practice. Is the click in the middle of your head?

Find center point

Using small steps, one ear at a time, I will adjust the click and the tone downward to where the tone will go away and the click will be there only if you concentrate on it.

ARE WE THERE YET?

calculates your therapy protocol.

LISTEN What do you hear?

Rate your AGL now. Take your time.

TURN YOUR HEADSETS ONLISTEN

What do you hear?Rate your AGL now. Take your time.

NOW! When I say “GO” quickly remove the headsets and rate your AGL. MAKE A QUICK DECISION!!!!

Am I a candidate for DICHONICS? Yes or NO.

When will I see results? Not a quick “cure” but the last step of the diagnosis is an indicator.

How often do I wear the headsets? As much as you want but not as little as you want.

How much does DICHONICS cost? There is no charge for today. If you chose to continue you will pay a flat fee for the software download on a free Android Tablet (your choice of a 4.2 or 7 screen) and then a small monthly fee for as long as you want to continue.

Make an online appointment with Shiloh to discuss other details.

REMEMBER ! DICHONICS is not masking!

Thank you from me and my wonderful staff! Leslie W. Dalton, Jr. PhD, CCC-A/SLP
