Principal’’s Musings
School of the Air visit Recently we had a visit from three School of the Air students; Bailey (9 years old), Matilda and Toby (both 6 years old). They came from Lilla Creek Station in the Northern Territory and were excited to visit and spend an afternoon with our classes. Thanks to everyone for making them feel welcome (and Alice for bringing them down). This was also an opportunity for our students to acknowledge that some children have to learn differently due to their location.
Upper South East Swimming Carnival Thanks for all your hard work, apparently our parent volunteers were kept extremely busy and ensured the event was successful.
SRC Induction Our SRC induction assembly will be held on Wednesday 21st March. Congratulations to our elected student representatives. I’ve already heard they have some good ideas for me!
Student Free Days 2018: Governing Council ratified our whole staff training student free days as follows; Tuesday 13th March – Numeracy Focus, Monday 14th May – Partnership, Tuesday 12th June – Focus TBC, Monday 10th September – Partnership. Our school closure day will be 16th November to avoid local sporting commitments and the Royal Adelaide Show. Please make a note of these dates in your diaries.
Attendance No matter how good our teachers, our education programs or our students we need bums on seats! Looking at our attendance data this is an area we can still improve (and will lead to improved learning outcomes). I understand for the most part your child's absences are necessary however we ask that you consider the lost educational benefit when keeping your child at home. One day a fortnight does not seem a lot however that is one week of lost learning per term. Of course if your child is ill we are grateful you do not send them to school while contagious (especially that last round of gastro) as this will result in more lost learning for more students!
Library Assistant With our increased focus on intervention programs during term one we have identified an opportunity to invite expressions of interest for “community library hours” during the remainder of this term and the school holidays. This role would be 6 hours per week during term one (day/s to be negotiated) and up to 18 hours per week during the term 1 school holidays. Currently this is a short term position. As I have no suitably qualified staff on file I’d appreciate expressions of interest emailed to [email protected] by close of business Thursday 2 March. Please include a CV and 2 referees. This is also a great time to have yourself added to our internal register if you’re interested in other positions. Of course you will need to meet DECD employment criteria prior to commencing a position. More information can be found at https://jobs.decd.sa.gov.au/page.php?pageID=160&windowUID=0&AdvertID=5823.

WELCOME
TO THE 2018
PRESCHOOL
CLASS!
Tintinara Area School Page 3 26th February 2018
Hello. My name is Linny Mpandambula. I am excited to be teaching a preschool for this term. I was born
in Zambia, which is in Central Africa. I graduated as a Primary
School teacher in 1999 from Kitwe Teachers Training College in
Zambia. I moved to New Zealand in 2004 where I completed a
Bachelors Degree in teaching (Early Childhood) in 2006 from
Dunedin College of Education. I have enjoyed working with
children in various early childhood settings in New Zealand in the
last 10 years. My family moved to Tintinara in 2016. I look
forward to sharing my teaching experiences with the children
here at Tintinara Preschool. I enjoy spending time with my family,
travelling and playing musical instruments.
2018 has been off to a busy start! With Mrs D on leave, we welcome Mrs Linny Mpandamabula (Mrs M) to our Preschool team,
and welcome back Mrs Tracey Leske back as preschool support.
Hello. My name is Tracey Leske. I am very excited to be at Tintinara Preschool as Preschool Support
this year. I have been regularly supporting the preschool team since
2016, and spent much of 2017 as a support staff member at
Keith Area School. I have completed my Certificate III in Early
Childhood Education and Care, and am currently studying to complete
my Diploma. I am loving getting to know all of the preschoolers, and look forward to
supporting their growth and preschool journey this year.
Our 2018 class has been busy exploring their new space, making new
friendships and are quickly building confidence and a sense of belonging in
their preschool.

On Thursday 22nd of February, 30 students from Tintinara participated in the annual Upper South East Interschool Swimming Carnival held at Coonalpyn. The swimmers had almost perfect conditions to be in the water. All of our participants did a great job representing the school, giving their best efforts and supporting each other throughout the day. It was particularly pleasing to see swimmers competing in higher age groups in order to fill events. This showed a great team spirit. We are still waiting on the results for the team to be chosen to go to Adelaide but we are hopeful some of our students are chosen to represent our school and the Upper South East in a few weeks’ time. We struggled to be competitive in some of the junior and intermediate age groups for the girls as we could not enter a swimmer in many races which affected our overall positioning on the day. We were fortunate enough to finish 2nd in the Senior Pennant on the day. Thank you to all of the staff and parents who helped out with the duties allocated to us as a school. Thank you to all of the parents, friends and family who came along to support our swimmers. Dylan Carter Sports Coordinator

Faith Coleman has been asked to help with project management and reporting for the
Playspace, as that is what she does. Proludic are being contracted to design and install
the play equipment. While they are from Adelaide, they have been encouraged to sub-
contract local trades, where ever possible.
Huge thanks to Gav and Lisa Sanders, Richard Harkness, Scott and Nerida Schulz, Tiny and
