Notes7.To complete empty the con-tents of the tip, hold the pointagainst the wall of the receivingvessel (Fig. 6) and depress theplunger slowly to the stop.(Fig. 7). The capillary actionbetween the wall of the receiv-ing vessel and the tip is animportant consideration inassuring that all of the samplehas been dispensed from the

Occasionally, it is possible that thecollar and nozzle of the Micropipettehave become loosened in transport. Before using, hand tighten thecollar firmly onto the barrel. Thencheck the nozzle and also firmlyhand tighten onto barrel.

~ At the start of each day's operation, depress and release plunger a fewtimes. Because of the strongpositive action of the Micropipette,it is necessary to depress andrelease the plunger smoothly andslowly.

8a.After all of the contents havebeen dispensed, move the tipaway from the wall of the receiv-ing vessel before allowing theplunger to return to its release

position. (Fig. 8).

1After prolonged use, the disposabletips may leave a thin film of plasticon the nozzle. This may cause theSIGMA precision disposable tipsnot to seat properly. This film maybe removed by cleaning off the endof the nozzle with water and a

detergent.

ab.There are applications where itis necessary to dispense thecontents of the tip into a solu-tion already present in thereceiving vessel, without hold-ing the point against the wall. After dispensing all the con-tents and before releasing theplunger, touch the tip pointagainst the wall to remove anysample residue. Then, movepoint away from wall and re-lease the plunger. (Figs. 7 & 8).

Performance

The following statistical data wereobtained utilizing gravimetric mea-surements. An analytical balance, sensitive to 0.01 milligrams, wasused.

Since the Micropipette is designedto deliver micro-quantities, theoperating temperature is an impor-tant consideration. Each SIGMAMicropipette is rated and calibratedto deliver an intended volume withan accuracy of::!: 1% at 20-22°C.

PERFORMANCE PER BA TCH OFMICROPIPETTES.

PROCEDURE: In each test, 20 differentMicropipettes were used. A new tip was usedfor each test.
