• Cast in a 180 degree semicircle.
• Vary your retrieve speed, twitch the lure often.
• If using surface lures, twitch often, but stop every 3-4 seconds, for 1-2 seconds. They often hit when you stop.
#2. Fishing From Shore or DockUsing Lures
• If you feel a hit, or even resistance, SET THE HOOK. Many fish are missed if you don’t set the hook.
• You’ll need pliers or a hemostat to remove treble hooks.

#3 Fishing from a Boat or KayakThe Trolling Method.
• If fishing by yourself, use two poles with different lures, different depths.

#3 Fishing from a Boat or KayakThe Trolling Method.
• Floating Minnows work best when water is cool.
• Ideal lure follow distance – 20-30’
• How fast? Troll at a speed that provides good action for your lure.
• For Spoons and Spinner-type lures, slow down in hot weather to let them sink deeper.
Fishing from a Boat or KayakThe Trolling Method.
• When possible HOLD your poles so you can feel the hit, then SET THE HOOK! Typically, you only get one chance.
• Have others reel in their lures so you don’t get wrapped in their lines. Have someone reel in you 2nd rod if needed.

Fishing from a Boat or KayakDrift Fishing Technique.
• Drift VERY slowly. Use wind if possible or trolling motor set very slow.
• Try to locate fish depth using fishfinder. If N/A, Cast out 10’ in cool weather, 20’ in warm weather. Let bait go under boat.
• Jig the bait up and down, 6” at a time, every 5-10 sec. or so.
Fishing from a Boat or KayakDrift Fishing Technique.
• You’ll “feel” the bite. DON’T set the hook on the first hit. Keep up the jigging motion. Set the hook on the 2-3 hit.
• If you miss, keep the boat still. Keep jigging. They often come back quickly.
