What is “No Child Left Behind”?Education act signed into law in 2002
that aims to:
Ensure that every student has a high-quality education
Challenge and motivate students Provide highly qualified teachers,
who use proven teaching methods Ensure a safe, drug free learning
environment
What is Title I?Title I is the largest federal assistance
program for our nation’s schools. It is based on the percentage of students on free or reduced lunch. In 2009-2010, 67% of students at Largo Middle School were on free or reduced lunch. This year we are at about the same percentage.
The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child.
The program is NEW to middle and high schools this year in Pinellas County.
How Title I Works
The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I.
The Florida Department of Education sends the money to the district.
The school district identifies eligible schools and provides Title I funds.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)No Child Left Behind allows the U.S. The
Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests (FCAT).
The goal is for ALL students to be proficient (at grade level) in reading, writing, and math by 2014.
Schools that receive Title I funds must make AYP every year.

The SAC and staff determines how to use Title I funds.
Working together Title I law requires that all Title I schools
