Is this play too violent?
In the 17th and 18th centuries, people hated this play, calling it too violent, too ridiculous, and not fit for decent society. However, in the 20th century it slowly became more and more popular. Why? Polish audiences of the 20s and 30s thought it was totally realistic. Many critics nowadays compare the play to Quentin Tarintino, citing how both writers have horrific and yet humorous depictions of violence in their works.
