In 2002 a group of citizens of Kot Radha Kishen declared: enough is enough. They decided that they will no longer have their children devoid of
quality choices. They decided that the children of Kot Radha Kishen and surrounding villages also deserve the best. They decided. They decided
that it was no longer acceptable that children did not have the choice to learn to maximum utilize their potential. In other words, the citizens,
decided to become responsible citizens. To become the change for their area that they had been hoping for. The Kot Radha Kishen Development
Trust established in 2002, is an amalgam of volunteers. The very first project of KDT is the Learning School which has since 2002 continued to
grow and blossom. Team members of Kot Radha Kishen Development Trust are:

All trust members are working on voluntary basis for the improvement of standard of education in rural and semi-rural area.
IntroductionThis story, which seems like a fairy tale, is actually a fascinating reality. In February 2002, a group of concerned citizens joined hands to do some-
thing real and practical for their community. They established Kot Radha Kishan Development Trust (KDT) and began to think of constructive
ways to provide high quality education in area which was yet to experience modern civic and social facilities. The first project of KDT was THE
LEARNING SCHOOL which continues to blossom today. The Learning School, Kot Radha Kishan, is a living reality that epitomizes the voluntary
spirit of Pakistani civil society. The local community has contributed more than 20 million Pak Rupees to convert this dream into reality. The
school has a beautiful campus. It is here that a professionally qualified faculty of sixty five members is catering the educational quest of more
than eleven hundred students from poor and middle class families coming from remote villages and quasi-urban settlements on not-for-profit
basis.
The LocationTLSC is spread over a sprawling area of about seven acres. It is a purpose built campus comprising of beautiful lawns, playgrounds, and one
double storied Academic Block having sixty class rooms that includes activity room, a computer lab, a science lab, a library, a canteen and a staff
room. The lush green lawns and the imposing brick red building lend a unique charm. The classrooms are airy, naturally lighted and fitted with all
amenities required for a present day learning environment. The students feel in harmony with nature while studying in their classrooms overlooking
the fields. It was ensured that students and teachers while entering the campus feel an air of freshness and space.5

Dedicated Staff
“Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes
a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work”.
Rightly said by Vince Lombardi, at the core of every good educational institution
are the teachers. Professional qualification, personal integrity and dedication are
the overriding criteria for selection of TLSC torch bearer. Meticulous care is taken
to ensure that only the best are appointed. Minimum pre-requisite is Bachelors
Degree for mentors at the elementary school level and for secondary, a Master’s degree is must the faculty. At the moment
• Sixty five highly qualified teachers are providing the quality education.
• Five Administrative staff - working on accounts and administration.
• Fifteen support staff is taking care to assist the students, maintenance, cleaning and security of the campus.
• Nine efficient drivers are all the time available.
Friends & Supporters of TLSCExcellence becomes reality when the team outgrows the performance with confidence. Besides hardworking staff and trust members
few invisible hands are also involved in ten years of success story. They understood and supported the idea, believed in us and accepted
the vision; they may be far by physical distance but not apart.
Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF)All the Resident Representatives of the Foundation from 2002 onwards were fully supporter of TLSC.
• Mr. Arno Keller is the first person who encouraged us and team believed in his words “Yes you can do” and the campus was de-
veloped within two months. His personal donation includes a school bus bought in 2003 even today this vehicle is in service to
pick and drop the students from villages to campus.
• Mr. Peter-Andreas Bochmann’s generous personal donations are rightly invested in young talent with comparative advantages
moving toward better society.
• FNF Regional Directors, Mr Hubertus von Welck; Dr. René Klaff and present Regional Director Mr. Siegfried Herzog visited the
campus and appreciated the efforts and supported for the students scholarship program.
9
10Eid Mela at TLSC on tolerance 2003.
• Mr. Olaf Kellerhoff, the current Resident Representative of FNF donated PKR 250,000 during his first visit at TLS in 2009 for construction
of two class rooms. From 2009 onwards he is sponsoring students. Now TLSC teachers are taken in the FNF Trainings and Workshops to
build their capacity.
• The International Academy for Leadership (IAF), Germany, is also the main source of trainings for our staff where several staff members ob-
tained trainings. Mr. Joerg Dehnert and Mrs. Birgit Lamm, Directors of IAF, were the main supporters of TLS staff.
Embassy of the Federal Republic of German, Islamabad
TLSC received the first ever financial support from German Embassy in different years for construction and furniture
• In 2002, PKR 412,000 (for 2 class rooms)
• In 2004, PKR 345,000 (for 2 class rooms)
• In 2006, PKR 400,000 (for students furniture)
• In 2010 for PKR 2,001,750 (for construction of six class rooms)
Trust for Volunteer Organizations (TVO)
TVO is the main supporter of TLSC as in 2003 when we had no funds for construction of more rooms
but admission were pending for hundred children due to shortage of space at the campus. TVO Sup-
ported for PKR 2,462,500 for the construction of rooms, salary of eight teachers for one year, com-
puters and furniture for the students. Its technical guidance was much helpful to the school; otherwise
it was not possible to sustain at its initial phase.
In 2011 TVO again supported with PKR 999,500 for purchase of furniture and other equipment for
the students and training for the teachers. Its technical guidance is always very helping and encourag-
ing remarks at the campus refresh our team.11

Sponsorship Program for the Students of TLSC
God has created all of us equal. But living in a state where acquiring education is
hampered by the struggle to survive and feed is a common sight in country like
Pakistan. The struggle has robbed our children of hope and threatens to steal
there future
It is a known fact what a tremendous financial burden “education” can be for fam-
ilies many of whom live below poverty standards. The parents are forced to make
a decision between feeding their family and giving their children a chance for a
better future. What may not seem like a lot of money for some is unreachable
for others. The parents pay for entrance fees, uniforms, books and supplies when
the child goes to school. Living without the opportunity to go to school is devas-
tating for some children. They live in a life of hopelessness without any way of es-
cape.
In 2002 we started with a desire that every child will be able to go to school and bring hope and happiness in their lives. We promised to provide
Quality Education on non profit to the children from under privileged families of remote villages and quasi-urban settlements. Interestingly, while
we were in the planning phase for such a school, many renowned school chains approached us with feasibility for school to be run on profit on
investments or higher fees. We turned them down and so began the uphill, but, exhilarating procedure for setting up The Learning School. We
initiated a survey of income levels and decided that tuition fees of PKR 500 will be possible for the quality education of primary class children.
This fee remained for 5 years and we were forced to increase it to PKR 600 from April 2007. Due to inflation waive of more than 25% in the
country, we were again to force for increase of Rs.100 per month from April 2009, April 2011 and then PKR 100 from April 2012 to meet the
salary and other utility bills expenditures. 29
Tuition Fee details & discounts (as on May 2011)
30
We minimized expenditures and paid market salaries to the staff, in order to sustain the system. We also provide PKR 100 discount to kin-ship and
teachers’ children. The Trust is providing 40—50 scholarships per year to intelligent and deserving students. Our well wishers and friends of Kot Radha
Kishen, provided 15-20 scholarships per year, to the deserving students whose parents are unable to bear the tuition fee of PKR1,000 (Just USD 10)
per month. By helping children we enabled them to experience the fullness of life God offers.
We invite you to join us to further expand its vision and work. We have created an Educational Fund to sustain this unique and futuristic spirit. You can
join us in sponsoring scholarships to the needy students and replicate similar projects in other less-developed areas of Pakistan. In order to ensure trans-
parency that your hard earned money is spent on this cause a quarterly financial statement of the fund will be shared with all contributors.
Sponsoring a child for just USD 10 monthly is a wonderful way to help change the life of a child in
need and bring hope to his or her entire community. Being a sponsor will give you the chance to
build a new relationship with one special child who will know you by name as you correspond and
share your lives with each other.
Financial Resources
Kot Radha Kishen Development Trust was established in 2002 with the aim to provide quality education
through The Learning School, Kot Rahda Kishen to the children of the area on non-profit basis. Initial funds
for the construction of the first block of school campus were contributed by the Trust Members. Details
are available at Trust Members donations.
After construction of the first block, KDT approached to several organisations and its friends for their precious donations for the noble cause and we are
successful. Through their donations/grants we were able for construction of further rooms, to buy the furniture, equipment and even Coasters also.
Details of the donations from them are available at Financial supporters.
Regular source of Income (May 2011)
The Learning School is charging very nominaltuition fee for its sustainability and is not depending on donations for school staff salaries. We are
able to pay the school staff salaries those are very competitive, so they should perform their duties with peace and commitment. Comparatively
tuition fee is very nominal and due to our restricted expenditures, we are able to manage the salaries and utility bills out of the collection. Same
time we are providing 30 to 40 scholarships to the intelligent and deserving children through our own savings and from the donations of our well
wishers.
TLS is the only School in Kasur district providingtransportation services to the students of Kot Radha Kishen and its 20 km surrounding area vil-
lages. TLS has its five Coasters for pick and drop to the students. One Hiace Van is being used
for pick and drop to the teaching staff from Lahore. One Suzuki Bolan is available all the time at
the campus for any emergency duty such like if any child is sever sick or due to any accident,
then immediately approach to the hospital.
School has hired ten further coaches for pick and drop to the students for their villages and
school is charging the transportation fee to meet the expenditures to be paid to the owners pri-
vate coaches. School collection is less then the payment made to the owners of the coasters
then School is managing the difference from the income of their own coasters' transport
charges.
Same time school coaches are available during week-ends for hiring on subsidize rate for the
local community for the marriage ceremonies and other functions. So the income of the trans-
portation being provided to the community is also raising our funds.
School has its own Canteen shop where students are getting their refreshment on very reasonable prices. School is getting only PKR 10,000
from the Canteen Holder that meet the expenditure of the utility bills of the canteen.31
Regular Expenses (according May 2011)
32
School has its own book shop and uniform shop where it is providing the books and uniform with a minor profit margin. Books are being purchased
directly by the publishers such like Oxford University Press etc and they offered profit of 20% to 22%. 10% discount goes directly to the parents and re-
maining 10% to 12% goes to the school account to meet the expenditure of the logistic charges and salary of one accountant deputed for the shop.
