DIY

It’s your first day at school and it comes down to the most important thing amongst everything: making friends

We know that some nerds might disagree, but it’s true for most that no one actually goes to school for the academics or for learning only. Yeah sure, that’s what our parents tell us before we pack our bags and head out into the messy streets of Dhaka, but we all know where our priorities lie. For most of us, the only compelling reason that drives us to take the road to school is the thought of meeting our friends. School is the place where you spend approximately thirty hours of your week (if you go five days a week and be a good boy/girl and don’t cut class). And with the pressure of CIE, Edexcel, SSC or HSC etc, it’d be impossible to survive school without the company of your friends. As a matter of fact, one of the most

important lesson schools teaches us is how to make new friends.

Being able to be sociable and friendly and finding a voice amongst crowds is a trait loved by many – it’s something to be proud of. Whether you’re in the big world or the small one, you’ll see that that stranger you just glanced at in your classroom or workplace might just be someone you like. All you have to do is just talk to them and be yourself. After being yourself, reminisce and think of all the friends you have made. If you only made a few, don’t sweat it (in some cases, it might worry you making you think no one likes you), if you’re comfortable in your niche and other people don’t accept you then stick around only with those who know you best. After all, it’s impossible to be friends with everyone in this world.

Mission dichotoMY TMAG shares a fun DIY that will not only be functional but will be playful at the same time. The bow and arrow can be an iconic decorative fpiece for any of the walls

be Yourself

Things you will need • 40” of 1/2” PVC pipe • 16” X 3/8” dowel rods • 6” of foam pipe cover • Comparatively thick nylon string• A gas lighter to seal the ends of the

string• Scissors• A hacksaw or fine tooth jig saw• Duct tape• Zip ties• Triangle-shaped foam (cut the foams

into approximately 3”x 3”)

Steps Cut the PVC pipe into three equal pieces. Take the nylon string and tie a large and strong knot from the ends of it. To keep away the fray of nylon string, burn the ends. However, for this step, support from an adult is recommended since nylon is a highly flammable material.

Use a scale to mark one inch on

one side of the PVC pipe on each of its ends. Then cut it with sharp anti-cutter with enough precaution. Now set the knot into the notch. Make sure it is big enough to not slip off. If it slips, make the knot bigger or tie a bead at the end to make it sturdy.

Pull the string tight around the pipe, cut a string and tie a knot about 4 and a 1/2 inches from the other end of the pipe. Bend the pipe and slip the knot into the other end. To prevent the string from popping out, each end of the pipe should be secured duct tape.

Fold the middle of the PVC pipe with a pipe foam. After bringing the edges together, secure each side with a zip tie. You need to stick the dowel rod into the foam around two times. You have to remove it right after sticking inside the foam so that the end of the stick can be coated with hot glue. Afterwards, place the stick back into the foam.

We know it’s your vacation, still cold and wintry. And the allure of spending a lazy day all cuddled up under the blankets has never been stronger. This article was written under similar conditions

Unfortunately, ice eventually melts, blankets start to make you sweat, vacations comes to an end and school starts, and with it starts exams. Here’s how you can prepare for school.

Make a pending listIt’s important to brainstorm exactly how the next few weeks are going to pan out for you- whether it’s homework, exams or school projects. It’s best to make a list and write out all your pending work lest you forget. This is important given our ridiculously short attention spans and tendency to abandon whatever we’re doing the minute our phones buzz up with notifications. Once you’re done, pin it up in a corner of your room you frequent visit. This’ll serve as a constant reminder.

PrioritiseObviously all your work won’t be due right when the vacations end! Some might be days away, some weeks to months away, hence prioritise! After making your initial list, give it

a makeover to see what can’t wait, what’s absolutely necessary and what’s optional. If you have exams in a few months, you get to be lax with your books, but if it’s a week away, put everything else on hold! We’re only human (unless you have some radio-active spider in a jar somewhere), so let’s not try to take on everything at once!

Ying and YangUnless you’ve guessed, the last step is to strike that perfect balance! This could work in a number of ways. Either rush through all your priority work in a few days and completely relax the remainder of your holidays, or allocate a few hours each day to finish your work. And it’s even possible to get the best of both worlds by taking all your pending work with you under the blanket, rolling onto your front and enjoying being intellectually enriched in the warmth of your bed!

Usually when you’re living in a country like ours, you are most likely to sweat at some point during the day, especially in the summers. Hence, when it comes to t-shirts, tank tops and camisoles, it’s always decent to wash them every time you wear them. But you can wear dress shirts and khakis a few times before washing. However, if you wear dress shirts to work every day then it’s probably best to wash them after every wear.

DenimJeans can typically be worn about three times. If they start to lose the stretch, it’s probably time for them

to hit the washing machine. As for leggings, jeggings and tights, it’s best to wash them after every wear; helps you get rid of the baggy knees.

Sleep wearYou can toss your pajamas in the wash after about two good nights’ sleep. However, if you shower before you go to bed in your pajamas, you can delay for a maximum of four nights before you wash them.

Ander ki baatUndergarments and sock, without any doubts, should be washed after every single wear; there is no choice

when it comes to that. However, one can be spared from regularly washing their sock and gloves only in winter. It probably isn’t going to stay very clean the rest of the year when it’s hot and you start to sweat.

AccessoriesBags and purses should be cleaned every week or at least every alternative week. Apparently, purses and bags can carry traces of bacteria or such at the bottom. So just by keeping your favourite bags and purses clean, you’ll avoid unwanted germs gathering inside.

Grooming your way back to school

The winter holidays are done, and the back-to-school blahs are setting in. Leaving the cozy blanket shwarma to go stand in line in the assembly while your teacher yells at you for your sideburns and nails does not sound like a fair deal. Yes, we at TMAG know how you feel. But then again there is so much more to look forward to. Making new friends, acing those darn tests, making your parents proud, and looking good while you do all that; yes, this will definitely be your year.

That doOne thing teachers pounce upon during the morning assembly is over-long or messy hair, so fellas, make sure you get your cut at least a week before school starts. Lucky for you, the short quiff is very in right now, and won’t take much time out of your morning for maintenance. There’s good news for the girls too; there’s nothing more chic than a ballerina

style topknot, and it literally takes less than a minute to do.

Make-up sneaksGirls, we know most schools won’t let you wear make-up to school. Don’t let that stop you from looking flawless. Instead of full-on makeup, use a tinted moisturiser for your face; it should minimise the appearance of blemishes, and still technically counts as “skincare, not make-up”. Instead of lipstick, opt for a sheer tinted lip balm. It gives your lips just a kiss of colour and still pass muster. Finally, since eye make-up is strictly verboten, why not just curl your lashes?

The smell of awesomeEven though you’re less likely to get hot and sweaty in this weather, don’t forget to pack a small deo, some breath mints and fresh towels in your bag. No one wants to sit next to the stinky one in the class.

Good MorninG, sunshine!

Just because you have worn it once, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dirty. You can wear jackets, dresses, and jeans a bunch of times before they need to be washed. TMAG has a few tips that can serve as a guide for you to know when it’s time to throw those clothes for laundry

HOROSCOPE

It is the most vibrant and intoxicating supercar on sale today. Yes, we know, the standard 458 is something special, but then what’s so special about the Speciale? Well, it is even more, er, special!

The newly up-rated twin-turbo V8 which delivers Maranello like crushing pace, is the finest British supercar in many, many years or in fact, probably the best ever made. Whatte jolly good news for the Brits!

Built in a shed by a bunch of blokes in Leicester and powered by engine from a Volvo XC90; it doesn’t sound too promising. Nevertheless, the Noble is as dangerously amusing as pornography and yet it is as friendly as your kitchen toaster.

The much awaited replacement for the awesome 599 but in a smaller and lighter package. And yet it is a lot more powerful and a hell lot faster! As far as the front-engined, V12 Ferrariness is concerned, it is pretty damn good.

Named after the Mayan god of wind, the Huracan is Lambo’s attempt to sweep away the 458 and 650S. And surprisingly, it’s very good. Then again it’s way too soft to be a Lambo. In fact it doesn’t deliver the knockout blow we hoped it would.

As the winter vacation ends, it brings with it a mixed bag of emotions. On the one hand, it’s back to early mornings, assemblies, tests and homework. On the other hand, you get to hang out with your classmates, maybe make some new friends. Some people are excited about learning new things; others flutter at the anticipation of meeting a new cutie. Still others are pumped about all the cool ECA’s they’ll get into. There are some, however, who feel an actual, crippling dread about the idea of starting a new school year. This week, TMAG’s going back to school with you By Raisa Rahim, Rad Sharar Bin Kamal, Saudia Afrin, Sabrina Fatma Ahmad

“Due to the winter vacation and the end of JSC examination, our school was closed for half the month. However, getting new books definitely made me happy. What makes me the happiest is attending classes with friends. The excitement ends when we receive the school diary. Once we get that, life seems to fall into a solemn rotation of home-to-school and homework-to-classwork. And if we slack off, teachers will call our parents which is not pleasing at all. Despite all these barriers, I’m still looking towards having a great year”

Mollick Muhibullah Afsari, Motijheel Ideal School and College, Dhaka

With the JSC vacation coming to an end, I am looking forward to seeing what 2015 has in store for me. On the new year’s day of course, my school celebrated the “Book Distributing Festival.” These are the books which I will have to carry for the next two years. The first three months of each year is always exciting for us because my school organises a variety of functions during this time. There are the annual sports, prize giving, cultural functions, milad etc. Also there are the club festivities like science fest, language fest, debate fest, photography fest, anime fest etc. Alongside these activities this year I have to face some challenges as new subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, higher maths, etc are being added to my curriculum. I know my teachers are going to help me understand and prepare me perfectly for my exams, so I am pretty confident. I hope in 2015 I will have different experiences regarding different matters and so I am expecting a lot from my school. I can’t wait to start my classes!

Tanha Tanzia Orima Viqarunnisa Noon School, Dhaka

“Our classes are about to start after the book festival 2015. I sat down on New Year’s Eve to write about my feelings, expectations and goals for this new year. I will be beginning the 9th grade. Having seen my seniors go through their SSCs, I have an idea about what to expect. I know I will be asked to choose between Science or Commerce. I know I want to go into the sciences. I hope my teachers let me into that group, and the uncertainty is causing a bit of tension. I am also a little anxious because I know the syllabus is getting bigger and harder. I also found myself thinking and writing about my friends, my classmates, my new classroom, teachers, uniform and so on. So all these ideas and plans were enough to make me put down the pen and just hope for a good and happy new year”

Abid Raian ShouhardhoMotijheel Govt. Boys High School, Dhaka

Who’s afraid of the big , bad school? Not everyone’s psyched about starting school. Here are the three main types of teens most likely to be dreading the new year.

The New KidUnexplored territory can be pretty daunting. You have so many unknown factors to consider. Will your classmates be nice or mean? Are the teachers your friends or foes? Will the coursework be very difficult? If you’re the shy, awkward type, this is even more stressful; who do you sit with at tiffin time on your first day?

BulliedIf you spent the last year being harassed by your classmates, chances are, you’ll be dreading more of the same this year. Bullying can really take a toll on the self-esteem in teens, and may lead to stress, depression, poor performance and in extreme cases, even suicide.

Lagging behindSome teens struggle extra hard with studies, and it’s not all because s/he isn’t studying enough. Learning disabilities like dyslexia, or even conditions like ADHD or teen depression may pose huge obstacles to performance. The stress of having to keep up can throw a huge cloud over the prospect of a new school year, particularly when you know it’s only going to get harder.

Great expectationsGreat expectations

What are the parents thinking?“I believe that the holiday and the festivity is enough to help them get rid of their anxiety before

school re-opens. Usually my daughter is very free and frank with us. If she is an introvert, being

bullied or if her friends are being reckless, she comes clean about it; we talk it out and provide the

best advice to her. I let her be independent with her feelings and enjoy the vacation while it lasts,

which also helps her relieve stress about anticipating the school days to come.”

-Lima Sharmin, housewife

How can parents talk to their children to help them before a new

year or a new school?“Talking is never that effective when it comes to teens. They barely open up. We can only guess

if our children are introverted or sensitive. We will never know if or why our children are afraid of

meeting new people, and if or what they are being distracted by. What we do with our children

are firstly try to discover their worries. Secondly, we try and keep them distracted and busy with

recreation and family. Basically we encourage them to get involved in fun activities throughout the

vacation, buy them new books so they get more enthusiastic about their academics, and also help

them plan next year, in terms of getting involved with school activities like clubs, sports etc. That

way they will rather feel excited about starting school than feel scared and reluctant.”

-Parveen Akhtar

How do schools respond?“Our role is very different and peculiar. We are neither the parents of the students, nor the teachers

they face everyday and have grown to trust. But the problems they face during a transition, be it

a new year or school, are commonly those they are ashamed to tell those two parties. Having a

hard time fitting in with friends or the new environment are, as do many believe, are not the most

common of problems. The most common is the becoming used to the curriculum or educational

methods practised. Personal problems are usually not shared after first mentioned, or hidden intentionally. It all

depends on the trust they feel and place on us that makes all the difference. For the updated

parent, this would be much easier.”

ISD, School Counsellor

“Our students always have the option of speaking about their problems to us. We are always there

to support them through their personal problems, social and behavioural issues. The teachers are

also present to guide them on a personal level whenever required. The Student Affairs Unit is seen

as a place of revival and rejuvenation. We try to reach out to the students when we feel they are

facing problems, hence it’s a two-way street.”

for the love of the GAMeSharan Khan may not be world famous, but his talents and skills on the football pitch have triggered the interest and support of many in Dhaka. The maestro shares his love for the game in a little talk with Rad Sharar

Tell me what you remember from when you first started playing football.I hardly remember how I started playing football. This might sound silly but at that time Igloo launched a new ice cream product, which used to come in a small plastic ball. I used to finish off the ice cream and kick the ball around. The ball was the main reason I had that ice cream nearly everyday. After that I got a new, size five football, went to the field and tried to play with other kids in the neighborhood. That’s how my love for football grew.

What is it about playing football that you love?I love everything about it. I feel refreshed every time I play this sport. After I started playing underground football I saw some amazing players with great footwork and skills. I got motivated even more and was determined to get better next time. I love competition because that’s how you can bring out the best in you. I remember not attending any social gatherings just because I’ll miss a game in old DOHS, Banani.

The most effective way I improved my skills is by playing FIFA Street.

Tell us about a few of your proudest moments as a football enthusiast.Starting with the annual Aga Khan Inter School Football Tournament (AIFT), I was made the captain for the first time in the U-14 category. We were unstoppable throughout the tournament. We played the finals with the home team with no support from the crowd at all. In the second half they the score was 2-2. It was one of the most intense games of my life. I was the one taking the last penalty for my school team. As I made the goal, my teammates picked me up, and everyone started cheering for me.

Share your experience of the best and worst moments (matches/wins/losses) in the game. There are uncountable best and worst moments in my life. I played at an ISD Indoor tournament a few years ago. For a personal reason I couldn’t show up at the group stages and a round of 16 games. I came to the quarterfinals. We were down by 2-1 in the first half of the final. I was really tired and couldn’t run anymore. But at the end of the second half I scored six goals in the second half and won the game. It was even better when I got the best player award and the second highest top scorer (nine goals) by playing only three games.

There were a few badmoments too. One of them was when we got knocked out in the group stages of the Greenherald School tournament. It was a must win, but unfortunately we couldn’t make it to the second round.

Which position do you love playing and why?I love playing in the left wing probably because I can cut the ball and take top corner shots. I love to assist more than scoring goals. Moreover, I can function with more freedom and do whatever I want.

Who were the people that motivated and supported you the most? The players who motivated me from the beginning are Adit, Wadud, Rakin, Yaman, Rony, Radh, Shinjon and all my teammates. Players from our rival team or our tough opponents were also a good source of strength for me.

What other sports do you like to play apart from football?I love playing ping-pong, volleyball and badminton (occasionally)Other than sports I love playing FIFA and my guitar. n

Family Life introduces us to the Mishras. Mishra is settled in America as a government clerk. He sends plane tickets to his wife and two sons who live in Delhi to move in with him. Ajay Mishra is his youngest son and it is through his eyes that we experience the novel. Ajay has an older brother, Birju. Birju is an ideal son. He is patient and obedient,

and a good student too. However, tragedy strikes, when Birju dives into a swimming pool and hits his head. What happens to him? Well, you will have to find out for yourself.

Sharma’s previous novel, “An Obedient Father” and “Family Life” have one thing in common - they’re both about domestic sufferings. Other than that, the two books are very different. An Obedient Father is a ruthless and influential story whereas Family Life is much gentler. It took Sharma more than a decade to compile Family Life, and all the years of hard work really shows in the fineness of every sentence.

The narrative is so emotional and heartbreaking that it really makes it difficult to put the book

down. However, some might think that too much drama has been compressed into short space. With every chapter, you will be curious to know what happens next, how the family deals with the harsh reality. It is an immigration story like no other. It is recommended that you give this novel a read.

fiction

fAMilY first silver lininG“Family Life” is Akhil Sharma’s second novel and many would agree that it’s brilliantly written. A number of people have compared his work with Pulitzer Prize winning author, Jhumpa Lahiri. In simple ways, he wrote about all the pain a family had to go through and captured our hearts with the emotions he put into it. He also used a sort of dark humour in the story which was truly delightful

There was a time when she thought she was irreparable; when she thought she was broken; when she thought the clouds had closed the gates to the sun. She loved the sun. There was a time when she thought love wasn’t enough and that it no longer had any meaning. She didn’t believe in happy endings anymore

book

There was a time when she tried to pick herself up only to be pushed back down again into a hole of her own sorrows. She screamed out into the void she thought she was stuck in. She tore herself up and glued the pieces back together. She’s only human; the mending wasn’t perfect. A few pieces were missing here and there when the wind carried them away like dust.

Time wore out her wick but she never gave up trying to mend. Then she met a boy. A boy who shared her love for caffeine; a boy who made her want to blow smoke in the other direction; a boy whose words were the blueprints to her recovery; a boy who made her forget about the bathroom break-downs and the 4am pity poems.

He made rainy days seem sunny and reminded her that life wasn’t black and white. Amidst the weariness in her eyes and the ambiguity in her expressions, he caused a slight upturn of her lips that would’ve easily been a smile. He found her missing pieces and made her whole again. She thought maybe he was her silver lining.

Mackenzie has won numerous songwriting contests. Her YouTube channel contains vlogs, tutorials and covers of popular songs. The most recent cover is “Me and my broken heart” by Rixton which has won her profuse views and subscribers. The young and beautiful artist showcases her versatile singing in covers such as “Sing” by Ed Sheeran; “Bang bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki

Minaj; “Blank space” by Taylor Swift; and “Fast car” by Tracy Chapman. From pop to rap, this young lady sings it all and with correct execution. The acoustic pop star pulls off all these various styles of singing only with the help of her sweet vocals and an acoustic guitar that she plays herself in her videos.

The flourishing YouTuber has taught herself to play the guitar back when she was only 15 years old. The music enthusiast dropped college and decided to focus solely on her music

career. She wrote and sang a few of her originals such as “Resolution,” “Snowed in with you,” “Silly girl,” and “What I want.” Her videos are simple, of high quality and mostly contain a lot of lighting in the background.

Currently she lives with her parents and performs in small shows. Having met the famous American rock singer/songwriter, Linda Perry, Mackenzie feels privileged and hopes to learn and grow into a solid musician set to win a larger audience with her originals. raISa rahIm

Let’s reminisce some of the great and influential personalities in the film industry who we have lost in 2014

reMeMber Me

Robin Williams Most notable of his performances include the one in “The Dead Poets Society” where he played John Keating, an insanely energetic and eccentric English teacher who redefines teaching for his students. In “Mrs Doubtfire” we see this brilliant actor juggle the roles of a desperate father yearning to be with his children after a divorce, as well as that of a sweet little old British lady who looks after the children. “Good Will Hunting” shows us a more serious side of Robin Williams; he is more grounded in his role and plays the man who moulds a young Will into the person he needs to become. It seems like there wasn’t a role in the world that Williams couldn’t master. He was an exceptional comedian and a gem of a human being with a warm heart. It is an absolute shame that we had to lose someone who gave us so much to laugh about to something as cruel and grim as depression. Williams committed suicide on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63 in his house in Paradise Cay, California.

James GarnerHe is best known for his role as Bret Maverick in the hit 60s western television show, “Maverick.” His other notable works include “The Great Escape,” “Victor, Victoria,” “Space Cowboys,” and “The Notebook.” In April 2006 a 10-feet tall statue of Bret Maverick was unveiled in Garner’s hometown in Oklahoma, with him present at the ceremony. Garner died on July 19, 2014, due to myocardial infarction in Los Angeles.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Hoffman played the popular role of a conman in “Punch Drunk Love,” which made him gain height in the film industry. He also played the role of a conceited student and spoiled brat in “Scent of a Woman,” a hospice caregiver in “Magnolia” and an immoral preacher in “Cold Mountain.” He was mostly known and admired for being a supporting actor. He died on February 2, 2014, of a mixed drug overdose consisting of heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepine and amphetamine in West Village, New York.

Shirley TempleShe began her career at the age of three with “Bright Eyes,” a feature film specifically designed for her talents, which helped her achieve international fame. Shirley Temple received a Juvenile Academy Award in 1935 for her outstanding contribution to motion pictures as a juvenile performer. Her hit performances include “Curly Top” and “Heidi”. Shirley Temple passed away on February 10, 2014 from chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease, in her house in Woodside, California. Pragya rahman

#liveonthefield

This person loves living the dangerous life, outside of class. Bunking has become the usual day’s practice as they flash and dash through the poor defenders on the football pitch. Lean and hot, your fans can’t get enough of them while haters can’t stop talking.

#MArilYnMAniAcs

The colour black means more to the Goths than to American voters. This kind loves listening to death metal and rock music. They will sport darker shades in every possible inch of their uniform they can. A bit weird in humour and taste, they prefer to be left alone.

#deAthPAin&dePression

Very similar to Goths, Emos are more excessive in their devotion to the dark side. Cutting hands, sporting scribbled tattoos; their moods tend to swing more than Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball.

#AniMelovers

The discussions over Bleach episodes and Naruto spoilers never end with these folks. Their love for anime commonly brings out an innate talent, maybe in sketching, painting or probable predictions of battle between anime characters. As a matter of fact, these people are actually cool to hang out with.

#AllAboutthAtbAss

The Kardashians of school occupy the daydreams of most during history class, who would even risk detention to impress these desirable ladies. One must be a very hard worker or gifted to join their ranks; they always bounce in a pack.

#lol

Dude! There’s a test today? It would almost seem like the “Gods of Laughter” have bestowed a magical substance upon these (very enjoyable) dudes and dudettes, that makes them carefree and oblivious of anything. Assuming this substance is taken in on a regular basis, these dudes are very fun to munch around with.

#dAPunk

Spiky hair in mohauks, pierced ears, faded jeans or trousers; these punks are on a whole different league of their own. They are known for their rebellious nature and are seldom (secretly) teacher’s favourites.

#cuPidsPlAYtoYs

This couple is seen bonding everywhere, and their relationship even puts the senior teachers in question; will they ever find love as such or die alone? If one disappears, you know something is wrong. Feel free to take some relationship advice from them, but be aware that they may not be as stable as they seem.

#PerfectPrefect

They are Mr/Miss Prefect, straight grades, teachers’ favourite. They are simply perfect; enough said. But if you’re unlucky, this combo comes with a “highly ethical” behavioral pattern where snitching turns everyone against that @#$% good doer.

#whAtdidYouGet?

Nerds are cool. They always were. But in some cases, a snob appears where it all turns into a dirty, dirty competition. Not only will they secure the highest grades, but also they will brag the world out of it till you feel worthless. The need to know that they are the best and the disappointed gloom on the faces of others, make them feel special.

#scArYMonsters

If you’re having trouble buying lunch in school, you may be familiar with these heartless beasts. Their goal in life is to become billionaires by collecting lunch money all throughout school life, and have no remorse feeling in bullying others to get what they want.

#nicesPrites

Lastly, there’s always that person who doesn’t fit into any of these groups. He/She is usually the quiet type, moderately attractive and very nice to everybody.

A new erA of cYberGAMes in bAnGlAdesh

GAMefest

Gaming has become one of the most addictive hobbies known to mankind. It spans from every generation, caters to almost every taste, and cares very little for race and gender issues. It seems as if many people have taken a liking to gaming these days. We can see dads returning from work challenging their kids to a dual of Burn Out races, mothers staying at home and working on their fitness with the help of their Wii and children enjoying a game of Angry Birds of Veggie Samurai on their Ipads or phones. Back in the day children were stimulated with building blocks, dolls, reading material of their age and toys that suited them. Now they’re just handed a tablet or a device that has a game or spelling test similar to a game on them and parents can be at ease. Life has either become easier for parents or parents have become extremely lazy or run out of options to interact with their children because

of the vast range of these games. Which is a fantastic development for the gaming industry but a really bad setback for the new generation of kids who’re becoming less and less interactive and looking for easier ways to sharpen their minds.

Next door, a pair of Pensioners could play Wii bowling, while their grandchild clocks up more hours of gravity rush on his Vita.

“GameFest Bangladesh”, a gaming festival was recently organized by Eventus at Saad Musa City Centre on the 2nd and 3rd January 2015. This gaming festival was organized with a view to widen the gaming scenario in Bangladesh and establish Bangladesh as a gaming nation among many other countries in the world. Gaming was not the only attraction of the festival; in fact there was an arrangement of Cosplay competition in which more than 50 people participated, and Live

Concert where many bands including ARBOVIRUS and BLACK came to entertain the audience. Many visitors were attracted to the arcade games in the festival and others enjoyed watching tournaments and buying gaming related goods like Custom Badges, Posters, Toys, T-Shirts etc. Nevertheless, amazing offers from the festival stalls and sponsors were also available, like Membership discount for Saad Musa City Centre, discounts on goods etc. The tournaments and gaming were greatly enjoyed by the participants and visitors alike, and the whole environment was very friendly and comfortable. Overall, being a great and successful gaming event, the organizers are optimistic on hosting more gaming and technologies based events in the future and begin a new era of technology in this country. Indeed, the favorable outcome of GameFest 2014-2015 shall encourage all gamers

in the country to establish world cyber gaming community. The success of this event genuinely portrayed the love, us Bangladeshies have for gaming and how this particular hobby plays an important role in detoxing the daily stressors of our lives as a source of entertainment and relaxation.
